          @PJC: No idea who upvoted that post. It's a cheap throw away $80 Casio watch that's not pretending to be a quality watch at a heavily discounted price.

        • +3

          @Chateau:

          Casio G-Shocks are well known in the watch community for their quality. They have been around for a long time now, like Citizen and you rarely see a bad word written about them on watch forum websites.
          They are far from a throw away watch.

        • -2

          @WatchNerd: G-shocks vary wildly in price and quality. A blob of molded resin does not equal a quality watch. The G5600E-1 would not be worth repairing if damaged or faulty hence it's a throw away watch, much like the majority of cheap Chinese made Citizen watches.

        • +2

          @WatchNerd:

          I can confirm this.
          I have never thrown away either a Citizen or G-Shock watch.
          I have however given away other watches, like the street-cred fortified Naviforce 90210, i mean Naviforce 9044.

        • +2

          @AngryChicken: I have discarded a Citizen. The damn thing ceased working after only 26 years; really annoying.

        • @PJC: I'm sure that's not true. Discarding certain non-citizen's however is fine by me.

        • +1

          @AngryChicken: It is absolutely true, but it was not an Eco-Drive. The model name was something like Ana-Digi; the lowest quarter of the dial was a digital display.

        • @PJC: You wore this colossus for 26 years???

        • @AngryChicken: No, the top three-quarters was analogue.

        • +1

          @AngryChicken: Rather similar to this.

        • +3

          @Chateau:

          The G5600E-1 would not be worth repairing if damaged or faulty hence it's a throw away watch

          You never mentioned that here: https://goo.gl/6KgNhn

        • @Scab: Didn't think I'd have to mention that an $80 watch is not worth repairing. I'll state the obvious just for you next time.

        • @Chateau:

          You still should have warned people on your deal.

          Be careful, I have street cred with the Yakuza.

        • @Scab: Much better.

    • +1

      This is a dumb comment. You do know that a 'made in Japan' seiko (ie. Models with suffix j at the end) use parts that are made in other countries. The final assembly may be in Japan, but how does that make it any better quality?

      • Presented with the option of buying an identical watch (or car) that was made in Japan, Thailand, or China the vast majority of people would choose the product made in Japan. Why? They have an earned reputation for superior quality control.

        • +2

          You're missing the point. Just because a watch says "Made in Japan" doesn't actually mean it was made or assembled there.

          You should do some research online about this.

        • I'm not fussed if you wish to buy Chinese made watches. My original comment was for those who might not be aware that the watches in this post are Chinese made. Nothing wrong with that, is there?

        • +3

          @Chateau:

          If you're into watches, then you most likely have one with some parts from China, it's unavoidable.

          Citizen Eco-Drives are very good watches for what you pay, and this is a site for bargains, so they are always going to be posted on here. Most members seem to appreciate it too, and there is rarely any negative feedback.

        • @WatchNerd: Can't imagine why you're butt hurt that I pointed out they're made in China. Making an informed choice is dependent on information. You seem determined to undermine that process.

        • +2

          @Chateau: How did you know my butt hurts? That was from some dodgy vindaloo.

          I'm happy for you to point out whatever you want, I can discuss watches forever if you like. You might learn some more, as you've already discovered, made in Japan doesn't always mean it's made in Japan.

          It was a great bum too. I reckon we've got enough to form our own 'five eyes'. Chateau can be our brown eye, or Mr Brown. I wanna be Mr Pink. We've got Mr Blue settled. The rest of you can choose your own.

        • +1

          @AngryChicken: I am finally recognised!

        • @sky blu: And always shall be!

        • @AngryChicken: Naturally your inclusion too is a necessity.

          Thanks, they are very nice watches and should last 15 to 20 years before needing a replacement battery.

          I will message you next time there is a deal posted on an overpriced Chinese fashion watch, and you can let loose on a deal that actually deserves it.

        • +2

          @WatchNerd: Shhhh… I don't think Chateau knows their "Made in Japan" 007 was made with Chinese parts by a robotic assembly line in a Malaysian factory overseen by a Japanese employee.

    • +2

      street cred even worse

      Agreed, since wearing my Japanese Seiko I've had Yakuza members beg me to join them.

      • +2

        Did they inspect the watch with a magnifying glass first to see? lol.

        Even if it does say "Made in Japan" it's most likely not, unless it's a high end Seiko, and even then some parts could still be from China.

        I had to google Yakuza to see what it was too, haha.

  • Citizen is a great entry level watch for collectors and I agree with watchnerd that the resale is one of the best as Citizen have a name foe quality and reliability no matter where there assembled and the eco solar system is unique.
    I wear my Citizen pilot (bought from StarBuy) watch when i actually want to read the time without glasses its bold and legible.
    I do prefer it to the Oris and orange monster which impress greatly but build up the muscles …lol

    @Rep…..is starbuy going to have a deal on the new monsters…? and not the Seiko 5 imitators.

    • Hi there. We are just waiting for more stocks to come in from Citizen and Seiko and have to see if there are some knockout products in there. If so, we will definitely aim to get them on OzBargain. Thanks

      • Hi rep,

        Little late to the party but any chance of 1 more discount code for the citizen eco drive at the $145 price? Able to make payment as soon as you can send.

        Hopeful you can help a loyal ozbargainer out!

        Cheers,

        Dave

    I've got a few Citizen Eco-Drives, all bought from StarBuy (in fact my DP is my biggest purchase from them), and their range, knowledge, speed and efficiency is something to be marvelled at.
    I'm sure everyone else who's sent an order through has had the same experience.
