It’s actually 19.25% off. The 5% off would be on top of the 15% off.

  • This doesn't seem to apply to the new Microsoft surface book 2's? Is that right?

Should I buy now or wait for sales after Christmas

  • Doh! The same laptop I bought a few weeks ago now includes a 'free' virtually reality headset worth $700+ :'(

    • Really? Which one? I want a free FR headset!

        • Yep that is the list. Some of the laptops on the list represent great value now that you effectively get 19.25% off (by stacking with emailed coupon) + a VR headset valued at $700+.

I thought I got a good deal with 20% off a few weeks ago for an 8th gen Intel CPU laptop :( I even used a credit card with purchase protection in case the price dropped in the near future :( I didn't forsee $700+ freebies being given away.

I bought the Lenovo 920 and would NOT recommend it. Fan is atrociously loud and makes a high pitch rattle when the laptop is in tent mode. I only have abt 20+ chrome tabs of ozbargain specials open (not enough to justify the fans racket). Build quality is terrible. I knew it was a bit of a risk buying from the first batch of a new model/release. Feeling lots of buyers remorse atm :'( But life is good otherwise :) Yipee

        • @unobtanium: Wouldn't that mean its faulty? Can't you exchange by consumer law…? Even the ACCC would think that's reasonable to exchange for a brand new one. Tbh, I'm thinking of getting the 920 or 720 but I don't think a deal like this is coming back again any time soon.

        • @unobtanium: I bought the 920 i7 and it has an intermittently loud fan. But build quality is pretty good here. Definitely no fan rattle. And I've heard that after doing all your windows & bios updates things get better so I'm still in that process before I return within the 14day window.

        • @HeyHeyHeyIsItADeal:
I emailed JB's online support yesterday. I'm still waiting to hear back regarding the warranty and returns options available.

The majority of reviews from tech sites & mags for the 920 are generally positive. However, I feel they aren't really indicative of the products long-term durability and quality. As the reviewers only play with the laptop for a day or two before sending the review units back to the manufacturer.

I've had a bad run with ultra portables. Toshiba UPC stopped working after 18 months which was covered under Harvey Norman's product care package fortunately. I've also had an HP ultra portable fail within 14 months, however the HP call centre were no help as it was purchased overseas.

However, I managed to get a 15" MBP to last 8 years before it died and my wife's MBA is still going strong after 2.5 years. I've also still got a 10+ year old Dell lappy that is still going strong - its good for the ole optical drive. I can't say I have any confidence the 920 will be as durable as these.

Do you desperately need a new laptop or can you wait it out till early 2018 when laptops such as the new XPS 13 are due. If not, bite the bullet and buy one of the laptops on sale atm.

        • @unobtanium: Ahh true. I dont need a laptop not until very early Feb 2018. I was gunning for the XPS 13 since a month ago but waited because I heard the news they're releasing a new one at CES 2018 Jan 10 - 15th

        • @unobtanium: ozbargain is mining bitcoins through your browser. conspiracy confirmed!!

        • @Jatacid: I've updated Windows & the bios to no avail. However a user on the Lenovo forum suggested tinkering with the power options: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/boar…
How is the battery life on your laptop? Mine loses 4-6% charge when not in use, such as when its put into shutdown or hibernate. I'm hoping its software not hardware related.

  • What's the difference between the yoga 920 and yoga 720…?

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/laptops/lenovo/l…

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/laptops/lenovo/l…

All I can see the difference is the pen, 1 extra port and an extra 00.02 inches to screen size.

920 has more real state on screen extra port but i5 instead of i7 on the 720?

    • One a 14" i5, and the other is a 13" i7.
To be honest the i7 isn't that much of an increase over the i5

    • The 920 has Thunderbolt ports with 4 lanes as oppose to only 2 lanes on the 720. Important if you're looking into eGPUs.

  • Looking at possibly picking up the Lenovo Yoga 720 base model which is $1170 with the 5% coupon. I have narrowed my laptops down to this laptop or the Hp Spectre x360 which i can pick up on ebay for around an extra $200. Someone please help me decide

Can anyone recommend a good deal for around the $700 mark please?

  • i am about to buy the i5 lenovo yoga 920 with the free lenovo explorer. not sure if the lenovo can drive the headset but the laptop price is good. Last deal from Harvel Norman was down to $1600 without the free headset.
