anyone know if need of the day is a reliable seller?

  • Can't believe Miele decided to go bagless. It's a terrible idea. If you think saving $8 a year is worth the dirtiness of bagless and the comparatively extreme frequency of needing to empty it (once per vacuum instead of twice a year), it's your call I guess.

One time with my Dyson, I did a total clean on a smallish bedroom. Removed two beds to clean the carpet. Ended up completely filling the DC39 I think more than 10 times. Each time I emptied it into a plastic bag, it wasn't actually much. The tank just doesn't take much dust to fill up due to the cyclone taking up most of the volume.

Never again am I going to use a bagless.

On a side note, I got a $30 voucher (I think everyone who's bought from AO gets it) a few days ago. There appears to be no T&C on it. No minimum spend, and it seems to be reuseable.. I don't want to take advantage of them because I don't think they intended for you to reuse the code, but if you want to buy a ~$30 item you could theoretically get a ton of them for free.

If it took 10 canisters to clean a ‘smallish room’ then that speaks far more to how filthy the room was rather than speaking against the Dyson brand which is far more than your propesed cost of $8 per year ($25 per box of 4).

I’ve worked in the industry and I treat the two brands as the best between bagged and bagless, there isn’t a great deal of difference between the two other than a few accessories being prone to clogging on both machines.

      • What does the "industry" mean? Were you a vac salesman, or a professional cleaner? There's no way I'm going to trust the words of a salesman, and if you're an industry cleaner using bagless, I don't know what possessed you.

It was. But it would not have come close to filling up a bag. That's because the bag compresses the dust, the bagless won't. Empty more than 10 times to clean one "filthy" bedroom vs no emptying at all. Normally you don't clean under beds or wall edges that the beds cover when you just do a regular clean.

It speaks more to how tiny a dyson cannister is than it does my room if I don't come anywhere close to needing to replace a bag if I used a good bagged vac. If you've used one, then you'd know that the cyclone takes up most of the volume in that canister, and that the MAX line (which I ignore) is positioned very low on the bowl. I emptied it when it was completely full, which is against what they recommended, and it still took more than 10 empties. If I emptied it only when it reached the max line, I think it would have easily been more than 20. The dust clumps together, so it doesn't even level out. So you hit that max line very quickly.

Dyson is overpriced garbage. Even a living room clean needed to empty it more than once. The same living room, and same bedroom (so perfect comparison) on one bag lasted me a year. See below. I ended up giving the dyson away to my older brother and even he thought it was useless. The dust release mechanism is poorly designed too. The dust is going to get trapped on the lid as you open it which makes emptying it messy. That's just how gravity works.

Btw, the first year I only needed one bag, though I waited till it was completely full before replacing it. I should have replaced it sooner. There's no way my house would require more than 2 bags in one year (I replace two bags every 1.5 years now). The bags cost me $75 for a 16 pack (less if combined with ebay promo), so about $7 a year. Do you acknowledge that this small saving is the only advantage of bagless?

How often did you have to empty the dyson in your industry?

        • I previously worked for Dyson, as in I no longer have any vested interest with them.

If you empty it above the max line (dc39 had a 2.2l ‘capacity’ which is roughly halved by the actual max line).
You’ve stated emptying it at least 10 times, and it would’ve been double that if you used the max line that’s a minimum of 10l of dust.

Mieles bags are generally 4.5l bags that shouldn’t reach max capacity either so ~3.5l realistically so can easily assume you would’ve filled a minimum of 2 bags for that one room if the above is correct for a small room.

Bags don’t have magical compression technology, they’re throw away canisters that are large filters allowing air to flow through while capturing all the dust. Not being able to see the dust many ignore full canisters compared to a visual check and empty.

You don’t trust the words of a salesmen, well I’m not selling anything have never made commission so agree to disagree.

        • If one vacuum is taking 6 months to pick up 3.5l of dust/dirt compared to the annoyance of having to throw away a third of that from each room as stated then surely the machine with the ability to remove that much dust/dirt is better logically?

Kind of like the adage of a small island with two hairdressers in a single barber, one with amazing hair and one with the worst haircut ever. Which one would you ask to cut your hair?

Don't say that, I trust you.
