  • Was thinking about pulling the trigger on the Prospex. Does anyone know if this is a good watch? And how scratch resistant is the Seiko hardlex?

    • +1

Didn't really like it in person. The date magnifier is cheesy and the finish is eh

Imo it's worth paying the extra for the Samurai, though it is quite large.

Hardlex is fine, though I've never really beat on my Seikos very hard.

Thanks for the reply @Merlict I'll go look at the Prospex in person then. I've already got an automatic Omega and as much as I love it (had it for 14 years now) the inaccuracy and servicing cost is ridiculous! I'm looking for a tough but nice looking solar that I can wear as an everyday and as a dress watch that I don't need to spend any monitor time on after I buy it. Maybe I'm asking too much from one watch.

        • +2

"dont need to spend any monitor time" - just a word of warning, my Seiko loses just over a minute per day, and will cost more to fix than its worth. YWMV

        • @Captain Nothing: Oh man, that'd be a drag…

        • @Captain Nothing: Really? Even the solar ones drop time? That’s terrible. I lose 5 minutes a week. I would have thought a Seiko quartz solar would be more accurate than that.

      • The date magnifier is cheesy

They can be removed easily, here is a youtube video showing how to do it. Skip to 2.15.

Not an expert about the watch, but something that can be spotted instantly is how bright the blue is compared with the blue on traditional Seiko Pepsi bezels. And that its a Solar.

I really pushed the rep for a better price citing that price you're getting and a few others in that vicinity, but this is their best. Slightly edging in Starbuy's favor with them being authorized Seiko stockists and backed by a 3 year warranty. I'd be more confident going with them.

Thanks for organising this deal @jungleboy I've heard really good reports about Starbuy. Will cruise their website for other watches.

  • If the Rep is reading, any deals on the SRPB99?

    • Nothing on the PADIs unfortunately. I asked for them first. :(

  • I've coveted the mid size pepsi with the skinny bezel for years, so I am glad these are all big, as I am broke with Xmas bills.
I don't even know if they still make the mid size, but these watches last a long time so 2nd hand is no big issue.

Very tempting for the Samurai, well done. Op

  • Uhh..I really want the black coated srpb55 samurai, is it possible to get this model discounted too?

    • Nice choice, but they don't have that variant in stock as it doesn't show on their Seiko page

  • my eco drive just arrived to day from the last deal from starbuy so all watched out until i adjust the band and at least wear it ……… mid size divers would tempting for my son though until he is big enough for full size divers.

Bad time to be broke :( There have been excellent deals lately here.

The Citizen Promaster Eco-Drive Diver BN0150-61E from WatchNerd's post earlier in the week was very tempting.

Kudos really to the rep for being approachable and also recognizing that OzBargain is literally a Shark Tank, where your deal is ripped to shreds either way :)

  • Quite tempting. Just started looking for a watch after years without.

  • Thanks OP, just bought one, hopefully the strap lasts longer

    • +1

      Longer than what?

      • +1

        LOL, I mean "Duration"

  • +2

That's a nice price on the samurai. Despite it's size, it wears small. Apparently it wears smaller than a Turtle too. If I didn't already have a Turtle I'd be all over this

    • You have two wrists for a reason :P

      • But I don't have more than ten wrists. 😁

  • @ilikeit …But you do have arms you'd get about 6 on each arm i reckon….lol
But seriously a very good deal fro Starbuy again 3 years local warranty is a big big bonus.
The Seiko SS bands are very well made ..my orange monster is a bondage bunny ..its been whipped kicked bashed scraped and the band is still great condition.
Love the wet suit clasp for when my wrists get fatter from all the OB hungry jacks vouchers…lol

  • If the samurai was on a bracelet i'd have been all over this one.

Any chance of a deal for the cocktail time?
