    optus is $59/month with 20GB

    • Is that 3 years?

cheers. My mrs was literally signing up to $90 plan in the Voda store when I read this post. She's now signing on with Optus. Thank you once again ozbargain!

        • +7

          @astrotrain:
Nearly lost your ozbargain badge there.
If i have to buy something, i always open ozbargain and search for the product.

        • +2

@astrotrain: Did you get from HN with $200 GC, if not, you still lost your badge.

        • Is it leasing plan or own phone pkan?

        • @admoghal:

          Own

        • @astrotrain: The newest Vodafone phone plans are the perfect example of daylight robbery. In order to match the price points of Optus & Virgin, you have to sign up for 36 month terms, and pay full price of the value of the phone. Absolute trash.

        • @ericeric: Guy its not my fault. She told me she going into the store to have a "look".

        • @astrotrain: All good. I only wished she would have told the store attendants how sh*t their products are, in their face ;)

  • yeah 24 months

data also rolls over and i get $100 credit on first bill so that's nearly 2 months off as well

    • Hi .. is that $100 with Optus or Virgin?

    • Any similar offers for the iPhone 8 plus?

  • non advertised managers deal

    Not anymore

  • I’m looking for an iPhone 8 64gb deal actually. 5gb would do for my wife though. Any other suggestions for lower gb? 24 months is cool

    • +1

Telstras prices are crazy. $79 per month with 2gb data

      • +1

Yeah, wondering if I can get away with less than $59/month Optus deal for 20gb

        • Seems like a pretty amazing deal to be honest. Is there any deals for further discounts?

        • +1

Mate, guaranteed you will not find better than $59 a month. The 20GB is great on top.
You'll have to get an iPhone SE to get less than that. Even the iPhone 7 is going for more.

No student discount, cashback unsure, gift cards who knows? Just maybe take the $59.

EDIT: $200 gift card at Harvey Norman (confirmed at North Ryde) upon sign up with optus. Assuming you are going to use all its value, in a sense you are getting $8.33 off per month, making it closer to $50 a month.

        • @pennypincher98:

Hope that h/n deal is nationwide. Will have to head in store tomorrow

        • @pennypincher98: I tried hn before, they can't touch current business plan customer for sure. For the $59 Optus plans, I am confused that 150 minutes international calls included or not? They have an option of $5 add on for$150 international calls?

        • @pennypincher98: how about other HN store?

        • @bt123123: Haven't tried, maybe look on the Optus bargain link? I didn't go there myself but someone has confirmed north Ryde (Sydney, NSW) to have done it. Maybe ask them or on the same chat?

  • Should be available via Web Chat and phone today, will be on the website on Monday :-)

    • why waste your time? Optus is cheaper!

      • Optus at harvey norman if you can get the $200 giftcard

      • International call inclusion?

        • Yes, you know if you can this post.

        • The 20GB vs 16GB and international call inclusion are the biggest differences between Optus and Virgin. I believe on Optus you get 150 international minutes to selected countries but my understanding is that on Virgin you get unlimited calls/texts to selected countries and 300 international minutes to the rest.

    • Still nothing on their website, the only iPhone available on this deal for $60 is the 6s 32gb.

  • Does anyone know the deal with Virgin's music streaming? Currently their site says till end of March. Anyone know if that will be getting renewed?

    • Why not sign up with Optus and get TV as well?

      • i'm currently on Optus, so I'm looking to port out

  • What’s the $200 gift card offer @ Harvey Norman ? I can’t find it on their website

    • I'm pretty sure you have to go in store. I saw advertising outside my local Harvey Norman store about the $200 gift card a few days ago

    • I think it’s only for new customers, not for Optus customers upgrading it to this plan

  • I am unable to find this deal on Virgin website. Is this still on or manager's special in store? can someone please help me find the link

    • comment from above states that should be available through web chat and phone or on the website on monday

Ok here’s a deal for you guys.

I’m a current virgin mobile user with 9 months left on my iPhone 7 contract currently paying $90 per month with 17gb.

Payout figure was $459 but they dropped it down to $409 if I move to this deal.

So I end up paying $309 with $100 credit on this deal for a new iPhone 8

    My new monthly contract will be $60 instead of $90 saving me $30 x 24 = $720

Sounds like a great deal to me.

    • +1

Dude, you may want to change your first line - it's a deal for you, it doesn't apply to anyone else!

    • Checking your calculations, it doesn't add up completely…

You have 9 months left on your current $90 plan.

By switching to this plan, you'll save $30 x 9 months = $270 on your current plan. Then you pay $60 for the remaining 15 months.

You also have to pay $309 to break out of your current plan. But you end up with a new iPhone 8!

The only part of your calculation which didn't make sense was that you wouldn't be paying $90 for another 24 months from now since you're only contracted for 9 more months! After that you could have gone to a $30 or $40 SIM only plan!

All things considered, I reckon it's still a good deal for you!

    • Hey, I am interested in doing something similar. Just wondering what method you used to contact them to get offered the $50 off your payout figure and if they immediately offered it or as an extra sweetener to signup.

      • call their sales team and be nice to them. i told them optus was offering $200 to ove across and could they match it. The rep offered another $50 on top of the $100

  • Of course Optus deal is slightly better and much better for epl fans.

    • Depends on what you're after. I make a fair few international calls so this deal works out better for me even though I get 4GB less than the Optus plan.

  • Just spoke with Virgin live chat. Oblivious to this deal being available online, stated it was an in-store promotion for some stores.

  • It's online. Hoping they allow an upgrade to the plus
    https://www.virginmobile.com.au/80planoffer/?i_cid=PP_offer_…

  • Can someone explain how $100 credit works? I don’t understand

    • $100 credit will be applied to your account. So I'm guessing you pay for the first month and then you should have the $100 credit to cover the second month and part of the third month.

  • iPhone 8 $60 deal is online now, don't forget $45 from CR as well.
It's better deal if you need unlimited international call (if your country is on the list).
Optus deal will be better if you need Huawei Mate 10 Pro, or you have multi service with Optus already (data pool).

  • Merged from iPhone 8 with 16 GB Data + $100 Credit + $300 International Calls and Texts for $60 Per Month on Virgin Mobile

iPhone 8 / Galaxy S8 with 16 GB Data + $100 Credit + $300 International Calls and Texts for $60 Per Month on Virgin Mobile.

Data rollover, data gifting and free streaming of Spotify music makes this a cracker deal.

Also, don’t forget $45 cash rewards. Enjoy :)

    • Includes 5GB bonus data if you sign up before 31/1. With the $100 credit it works out to be $56 a month.

How does Virgin compare to Optus? Will coverage be the same?

      • +1

        It's the same network.

        • Yeah, just read that Virgin is owned by Optus so service should be identical.

          • @pizzip: No quite right. Virgin uses 'part' of the Optus network. Most, but not all Towers & Frequencies

      • +1

Virgin uses the Optus network to make and receive phone calls.

        • to make and receive phone calls.

          also for texts and data…

      • That extra 5gb is already included in the 16gb

    • Fail to see how this is better than the $59 deal with Optus which gives you all of the above plus 20GB of data instead of 15GB.

      • See my comment above.

        • "16GB DATA, Includes 5GB when you sign up by 31/1"

          ??

Still fail to see how this is better than the Optus deal

          • -1

            @herroherro: Failed! ;)

          • @herroherro: My bad, I read it as 5GB extra. Looks like it's included in the 16GB already which makes it far less appealing. Sill, it's $76 cheaper which may be worth it for someone who wouldn't use 20GB.

          • @herroherro: @pizzip: Plus you also get a $200 Harvey Norman gift card and a free life proof case like I did when you sign up on the Optus $59 plan with the iPhone 8 in stores. You also get data free streaming on both music and video streaming services like Netflix and Stan on Optus as opposed to only data free streaming on music services with Virgin. Sorry but this Virgin deal just isn't anywhere near as appealing

          • @herroherro: @merajaan: That Harvey Norman gift card offer expired on Monday!

          • @herroherro: @alwaysupforabargain: That it did, a lot of people like myself got in on the $200 deal though.

          • @herroherro: @merajaan: So that part of your comment no longer holds! (Just being pedantic! :D)

Jokes aside, like jaipac has said below, the international calls on the Virgin plan make this more worthwhile for me.

          • @herroherro: @alwaysupforabargain: Righto but you do get 150 minutes of international calls on the Optus plan. The one thing both these plans lack is international roaming which would be much more useful to a lot of people

          • @herroherro: @merajaan: That's not all of it though…Optus' 150 minutes is to selected countries. Virgin offers unlimited to selected countries and $300 credit to other countries. That's the biggest difference between the plans for me. I can live with 4GB less data and don't really need the un-metered Netflix streaming.

I do agree that international roaming would be great but for now it's probably not something that the telcos can offer cheaply.

      • +1

Depends. If international calling is more important to someone than data, then this is a better deal. OP hasn’t mentioned but it also has unlimited calls to 7 different countries for the life of the plan (in addition to the $300 for international calls plus texts).

        • That's a fair point. Unlimited calls internationally to those 7 countries could mean infinitely better value for somebody who'd use it. More data is better for me though :P

          • @herroherro: and dint firget the free spotufy data…altho optus gives u free netflix data.
im guessing its cheap for virgin to offer free calls as they have their own networks overseas in uk etc.

    • Also take into account Virgin Mobile have $100 credit + $45 Cashrewards = $1295 overall

The $59 Optus deal did have a $200 EFTPOS card if you switched from another carrier at HN (so $1216 overall), BUT that supposedly expired yesterday.

So now this would be the better deal in terms of cost.

I also like the data rollover function - use 9GB in your first month, and the remaining 7GB will go to your 2nd month for a total of 23 GB.

    • I don't find this anywhere ..Could you please send me the link ?

  • this is showing $69 now. any comment ?

    • Yeah, it is coming up as $69

    • +1

Ok, I found out the package mentioned for this deal is $80/ month plan with $20 off offer.

  • So you have to choose the $80 plan.

In the "fine print", it is showing me a list of handsets this offer applies to. The iPhone 8 is not included in that list. Shouldn't you be seeing Min. total cost $1440 if the iPhone was included in the list?

    • That's true. But if you go to the OP's link and scroll down to the $80 plan, it says $20 off. In any case, if you have issues, you can always get on the chat.

      • Yes, I confirmed that the iPhone 8 is included in the deal. All good.

  • Looking at the Virgin site, it looks like either the iPhone 8 is removed from this offer or it's no longer listed because they have run out of stock.

Does anyone know if I go in store if this offer is still available?

  • Anyone have an actual experience with the time taken to receive the phone? I see it says to allow 8 weeks.

  • +1

Hey everyone. Virgin have the deal up & running again as they must have receive a delivery on the iphone 8 64gb. Just order mine today as a new customer. So for $60.00 16gb data & velocity points, you can't go wrong
