Hey Guys,

Seems like a good deal. Although, reviews are not that good. But , at this price sounds like a good buy.

This deal is part of Sony's 12 days of Christmas offer.

    Motionflow XR 200 (Native 50Hz)

    • @Ozvalue: I'm no techie. But, is that good or bad ?

      • +3

People will complain about 50Hz, but it's perfectly fine for most people. Sony TV's generally handle motion particularly well.

Good effort, OP. I think the X8000E in the 49" size is only available through Sony directly (like the 49X9000E), so this is as good of a discount you'll get anytime soon.

    Rtings.com review

I actually got demotivated by review on the rtings.com

      • Don't be too put off. They're very fair, but they're quite critical. To put the score of the X8000E into perspective, the Sony X9000E (X900E) is regarded as one of the best LCD TVs currently available. It's score on rtings.com is 8.1.

        • Yeah I saw that too and was about to post another deal for the same(X9000E) :P HN & JB hi-fi has that for AUD 1795 compared to Sony's website which has for AUD 2999 for 55'' . But , this is way over budget :(

The biggest issue with this TV is its IPS panel. It's awful compared to the VA panel. Low brightness and contrast. Colour gammat for HDR nowhere near wide enough as IPS panels can't handle the range. X8000e it's edgelit which means light bleeding and blooming plus average blacks. Anybody thinking about this should just wait for the X9000E 49" (only available at Sony Store) to get closer to $1000. It's basically the best tv of the year considering it has all the flagship model features at under half the cost!

        • @Monstalova: All these points are made in the linked ratings review, are you just regurgitating it? You’re wrong about colour gamut on this TV. Edge lit doesn’t automatically mean light bleed and average blacks, it is in the case of the X8000E, but it’s not the case with all edge lit tv’s.

Anybody thinking about this TV probably wants or needs a TV now. Waiting for the X9000E to drop to $1000 is silly, and it may never happen. The cheapest it’s been is $1400, and there’s no market competition because it’s a Sony store exclusive.

We all know this TV isn’t flawless, but when buying something like a TV, your expectations need to be aligned with your budget.

        • @aja12: I bought the X9000E 49" the other day when they had it on sale for $1399… Man I hope it's as good as you say. I was going to get the Samsung MU8000, but they don't seem to make it in 49" in Australia.

@nelga: I just got mine two days ago from the same deal and I have to say it's amazing…the best non-OLED screen available right now

        • @aja12:
How am I wrong about colour gammat… It's worse than last year's model. Also I'd rather read the issues in a comment than scrolling through a whole review trying to find it. Sounds like you're really trying to defend this TV when it's good but lacks in so many areas. It was $1400 a couple days ago. I'd didn't say it would be $1000 I said wait til it gets closer to $1000. Yeah edgelit does mean more bleeding and average blacks compared to backlit full array. That's how LED's work!

        • @Monstalova: Gammat?..oh, you mean gamut? How are you wrong? It’s pretty simple. The X8000E has a wide colour gamut, you’re saying that it does not. Not difficult.

I’m not defending the TV, im being realistic about what to expect for the money.

Edgelit means average blacks and light bleeding compared to backlit full array? First of all, how many backlit full array TV’s are actually manufactured these days? Secondly, my $700 Samsung MU6103 has no noticeable light bleed, and very deep and uniform blacks. The rtings.com review for the same TV backs this up.

        • @aja12:
In case you didn't realise I'm comparing it to the x9000e which I've said. It obviously has backlit with full array local dimming. If you think 52% in BT2020 (which is the colour space HDR runs in) is good then you've obviously got problems and need to get your eyesight checked. The MU6 series is awful, no wonder you think everything else is perfect! Maybe you have come from Soniq or Kogan when you say blacks are good and hardly any light bleed. HDR is basically unnoticeable on that TV. X9000E has the best of everything for a few hundred dollars more than the x8000e. There's no comparison. You don't have any high end TV's and don't know their capabilities. It's one thing to see reviews and believe whatever they tell you, it's another to to actually own them and see them calibrated.

          @aja12:
Since you think edgelit doesn't seem to equal light bleed or average blacks. I'll tell you how it works… Edgelit TV's have lights only around the edge of the screen which means more light around the corners, which in turn especially when viewing 2:35 aspect ratio or dark screens show more focused light around the frame of the TV, as that's where the light source is coming from. Has the same effect for blacks as there is light omitting in that area so it can't be dark. That's why you see light bleed and less uniformity. Full Backlit with local dimming allows the TV to be lit wherever the lights are needed. Dimming zones all around the TV only light the area which is necessary giving you better blacks and screen uniformity. Edgelit with local dimming helps but you will usually only see it on high end Samsung's and now the Sony x930e. They use a bigger frame for lighting and dim the edges which aren't needed. Which still results in the middle of the screen not having great uniformity. Morons like you who can't see facts straight in front of their face shouldn't be talking about TV's

        • @Monstalova: Maybe focus all of your dillusional, argumentative effort into lifting your 0 post count. The stupidest comments always seem to come from those that make zero contribution to this site. Feel free to continue arguing with yourself about TV’s.

      • same here considering it appears to be worse than its predecessor the x8000d which i have.

I've had this TV for around ~6 months before selling it as going overseas. The quality of the TV is amazing for the $1000 price tag. Colours are great and if you have a 4K blu-ray player and/or 4k console it's even better. The only issue is that Android TV is slow as sh*t and sometimes just completely freezes and re-starts the TV. Also found that build-in Chromecast didn't work that amazingly well but gets the job done.

  • If you're not in a hurry I'd wait for boxing day sales, best time to get a tv (historically), otherwise decent deal

    • This time of year last year had better Sony deals on some models than Boxing Day itself. If this is a model you’re interested in, I’d buy it now.

  • I bought this tv last month

While the feature set is great, the design is poor

It has a external power supply! This is odd because the power supply is thinner than the TV why they couldn’t incorporate it is beyond me, I haven’t seen a external power supply on a tv before

Secondly the hdmi and coax side inputs are so close to the edge they are visibly from front on!!

  • Chroma subsampling 4:4:4 to avoid blurry text with pc monitor usage.

Looking for a large 4k TV with HDR, Chroma Subsampling 4:4:4, low input lag and ability maybe to do some android for console use, pc use and maybe some chrome casting use as well as of course normal tv usage and movie watching and sports and tv shows documentaries etc.

This seems like the best one that ticks all boxes closest to 55" or larger for a decent price.

Might jump on this or it's successor when it reaches closer to $1000 AUD for a near 50" model.

    Ideally 65 - 75 inches but I'll take 50 for now haha lol :)

expired? the price is back to $1999 now… am I missing something?

    • same for me as well

  • Can anyone comment on the viewing angles on this TV? How good it is from a decent side angle?

  • i am about to get 55MU6103 or Sony 49X8000E. I rather to get smaller size since this will be a tv in the dining room and we will be sitting very closely. Can you please advice which to buy? Mu6103 is $888 Sony is $999. Thank you..
