    Top of page says:

"Sold out for 2017. Order now to reserve for January 2018!"

    • Thanks. Updated.

They're busy filling orders from early Kickstarter backers. I waited two years for mine. Worth it.

      • I'm still bloody waiting!

      • Must be frustrating having paid and wated two years then seeing Nura sell on discount at the same price.

        • Yeah it's not ideal

  • Interesting read. Never heard about headphones that do this.

  • Oh hey, that's cool. One of my lecturers last semester was telling us about these. One of the founders (?) was supposed to come give a guest lecture, but some last minute issue cropped up or something and it fell through :/

    • I was at one of these seminars. The main technical guy did a EE phd at unimelb and was giving a talk about the tech behind the headphones. Was quite interesting.

Waited and waited for these to be released but went with the WH-1000XM2 at $300 after Amex + HN and trs rebates. I really think they need to be sub $350 to stand a chance. The Sony's noise cancelling, great drivers, touch controls and the Android adaptive sound profile sound amazing I can't imagine these being worth $50 more, for an ozbargainer.

    • Weird comment. Whilst the Sonys are good headphones, this is completely different tech. The story behind your purchase is a nice added touch… ;)

  • How do these compare against QC35's?

    • qc35 has fantastic active noise cancelling. sound is pretty good but not amazing. Ears get sweaty. Can pair to two devices at once.

Nura - best sounding headphones I've ever heard. Super wide sound stage with crystal clear sound. think of them as glasses for your ears. powerful clear bass that can make music sound like you are in the front row without distortion passive noise isolation good enough for nearly anything except for transport (planes, trains, etc) read the review for more details.

Without a reference point, 'best sounding headphones ive ever heard' doesn't really mean much. How do you rate them against LCD-2s?

All the reviews are from tech sites and random blogs. Seems that almost no one with any background in reviewing audio has heard them, from my quick search. Plenty of people swear that their QC35s are 'the best headphones ever', not to mention the 'rave reviews' on xiaomi trash IEMs that people throw up here.

QC35s are remarkably non-sweaty compared to previous QC25, QC15s. Literally people wear them all day/night long on international flights without exhaustion. It's true the nuraphones have better breathability but is it really that much of an issue? Not sure about that.

The bass is great but not everyone enjoys that. Slippage of the inner ear is a major problem and deterrent for using nuraphone from anything but sitting absolutely very still.

Nura provides the user with insight into equalising sound to their liking. Nice. But from a hardware perspective let's be clear there's nothing amazing about the drivers etc. and given they're priced as much as high-end headphones, I have to ask: why aren't you taking your insights from the nura listening profile over to those that are mechanically better? I don't understand the fascination. It's like having a CRT television that's in tune vs. an OLED that you need to configure. I'd much prefer to spend the five minutes and have the latter.

  • Thanks OP. Would you mind sharing your thoughts on the headphones and how they compare with other ones? The concept sounds interesting but I'd be interested to hear from an actual user.

    • I agree with the review posted. I was surprised by how wide the sound stage is. it's like you can see and feel exactly where each musician is standing on stage.

a bit bulky. not easy to travel with.

Firstly the good news. Yes, you can hear the uniqueness of where each sound comes from and it does fit a profile that works well with you. Out of the box, it sounds incredibly good.

Now the bad. You're slipping in 'in-ear' earphones and on top of that, cans. The in-ears are statically positioned with a little bit of lee-way of movement. Consequently if your ear canal isn't aligned with the way it's molded (like me) you're going to have a hard time to get a closed loop and presence.

Further, don't think about moving with these things. There's no resistance to ensure the in-ears stay place and a simple movement like a brisk walk, head tilt or slight jump means it'll slip out.

The bass is loud, incredibly frustratingly loud if you prefer to listen to nuanced tunes. When you increase the volume, up goes the bass. Yes there's passive noise isolation by having an incredible amount of rubber placed in and around your ear. It doesn't come close to a QC35 active noise cancellation.

These headphones are great if you're doing nothing but sitting still in a studio but if that's your deal, why not just buy proper studio headphones and equalise them to your liking?

Honestly, the only thing going for nuraphone is it'll inform you a sound profile that suits you (in a closed, proprietary way). Which is something you can fairly easily determine by spending time in EQ, then use a quality set of headphones with ample drivers and tweeters that'll bring full sounding music to your ears.

      • Great review with some practicalities that I hadn't even considered. Many thanks!
