Finally built in Chromecast support is a thing!

    • +1

it's been a thing on sony for a while

    • Hopefully its a 4k chromecast ultra inbuilt.

      • nah - iirc Chromecast built-in is just an android app running on whatever SoC the TV has

        it isn't dedicated CC hardware

        • +1

But a Chromecast dongle just has an android app running on a standard SoC too. No special hardware.

        • @manic: the SoC determines what codecs and resolutions are accelerated/supported

          @HeXa:
          https://www.anandtech.com/show/9688/googles-chromecast-2-is-…

Mi Box has an AMlogic S905X, which can do 4K, though not at blu-ray bitrates.
Smart TVs will have something similar.

        • +1

@manic: the Ultra has a 88DE3009 to provide 4K and HDR support

the soniq in this deal has

          CPU - ARM 64bit A53 Dual Core/1Ghz
          GPU - Mali450MP2
          RAM - 1.5GB

the GPU is a 5 year old design and rather limiting

EDIT: though if it is an amlogic SoC, it might have a capable AVE/VPU… though likely not 4K

    • Android TV has had built in Chromecast for a long time, though it has not always worked as well.
Presumably because some casting apps were tested against the donlgle, but not against Android TV.

    • built in Nvidia shield should be a thing (includes chromecast)

  • Low grade brand but that's got to be the cheapest 75" UHD TV so far?

  • Anyone seen?
    Anyone have one?
Chromecast Ultra spec built in given it's 4k?
with the 15% gift card this is worth consderation but i'd be changing from a exy Sony 55" from 4 years ago.. so want to make sure it's as good as that.

    • Can't find a review of this at all.

      • must be new new.. anyone work at JB and had a play of one?

  • +3

Save yourself the pain and headache, hold out for a deal on the Hisense 75N7, pay a few hundred more and then thank me.

    • been eyeballing prices the last few months but they just seem to have been increasingly lately..

    • surely, Hisense doens't have that much more going for it over Soniq if you get either via JB..?

      • +3

Hisense is miles ahead of these guys and TCL, they're only slightly behind the big boys Samsung/Sony/Panasonic at sometimes 60% of the cost. The 2015/16 M series Hisense and the new N series models have been fantastic value for money.

  • Can you stack jbhifi gift cards to cover the full $1999 amount or no?

    • Last time I was in JB someone used 6 online gift cards in 1 transaction.

  • No reviews anywhere..

  • +1

$1700 for a 75" is ridiculous. Not for me, but I'm sure liking where things are heading and looking forward to when brand name TVs hit this price point.

    • My first colour TV was 51cm and it cost close to a grand.

Heck my first Hifi VCR was a grand!

It’s amazing to think how far we’ve come.

  • Lol just went to jbhifi and asked the dude about this tv, told me it was absolute rubbish haha!
