Why not just get the superior OLED for the same price?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/351473

QLEDs are horridly overpriced. Was $2700? Yeah right.

    • Agree with QLED, but dont get OLED if you want to use it as monitor.

  • +3

The qled was $1999 last week so not really saving $1000 😂 samsung lost go OLED

  • +2

Totally agree with the above. Unless you want to put the TV in your sunroom or outside, OLED is much better compared to QLED.

    QLED is a marketing sham.

It’s no coincidence Samsung chose the letter ‘Q’ that can be easily confused with an ‘O’ by the unaware.

For this, Samsung should be publicly shamed.

    OLED >>>>>>> QLED

You don't think very highly of the intelligence of the average person do you? O and Q are pronounced very differently. They might not know the difference between the techs, but I can't see someone seeing QLED and saying, hey this is OLED right?

The Q stands for Quantum Dot. They didn't pick the letter because it looks like an O. That's pretty dumb conspiracy theory shit right there. You can say they hijacked what QLED was going to be. But to say they deliberately wanted to mislead people into thinking it's an OLED is very dumb. You do realize that most people who buy an expensive TV aren't just going to order it online with no research right? They are going to walk into a store and look at the TVs and compare them. Are you saying they're too dumb to even notice the difference in picture between the two sets? If so, then maybe the tech is really not that big a deal?

Samsung are the biggest manufacturer of OLED screens. Even bigger than LG. (Apple wanted to get LG to produce the screens for iPhone X but LG didn't have the capacity to provide them. Samsung knew this and were able to charge Apple a lot of money for the contract, and Apple begrudingly had no choice but to pay Samsung). Samsung themselves could easily make OLED TVs if they want to. They chose not to because they from their POV didn't see a business case for it. They are more expensive and if sold at the same price, less profitable. If sold at a premium over their QLED, the OLED will sell fewer TVs. And they will depreciate in price at a faster rate, cutting into profit margins again.

They're the biggest electronics manufacturer in the world. Of course they are going to be all about the money. Just like Apple have been. They didn't make OLED phones until 7 years after the competition have been doing it. Why not? It just didn't make business sense. It was more expensive, and their customers didn't demand it. Even their pixel density and resolution on retina displays had been far surpassed long ago, and Apple didn't try to keep up. Their retina displays were seen as 'good enough', and they didn't see the need to absorb unnecessary costs, or make a phone that's too expensive. Industry leaders are leaders for a reason: They understand the economics better than the armchair critic.

OLED pixels have a shorter lifespan btw (they start off oversaturated then color will fade over time). And then there's that image retention problem. To some people this will be a big deal. On a phone this won't matter because you'll replace it before it becomes an issue anyway. On a TV, well let's wait a few years and see if we'll get reports of degrading picture.

O in OLED means Organic, we all know organic is good for health. But what the heck Quantum is for? Quantum leap? we don't need Quantum, we need organic, organic apple, organic oranges, and now organic TV. Ohhkaayyy?

  • How does this stack up against the Sony X9000e (hoping it drops below $1500 again soon)? Budget of $1900. I have considered the LG OLED but the lounge room gets a lot of sunlight so I’ve been leaning away from it after reading that OLED doesn’t look great in well-lit areas.

I would recommend the Sony, fantastic TV. For bright room especially, it'll shine (pun intended).
But other 80% of the time I'd say OLED. Even just a room at night with average lighting. OLED is a great price.
