Will customs allow this in? Just asking, not being negative about it.

It's like a more painful version of the garrote wire from the Hitman games.

This is not a chain saw, it's a wire saw, and even then it's not the usual type of wire saw. The usual type has a single strand of wire, with either a sharp spiral ridge on the outside, or an abrasive coating. It is a slow way to cut anything, considerably slower than a conventional saw.

From the pictures, this saw does not appear to have any sharp edges anywhere, so it will be even slower than a standard wire saw, which was already slow. Only useful if you really have no space, and can't fit anything larger.

There are "real" hand-operated chain saws available, like this one:

    • do you have photo of the standard wire saw?

so these are the worst kind?

Yes, they are slow but sometimes you don't have the space for a normal saw..

      • I don't know if these are the worst, but as they don't appear to have any sharp edges, you would be wearing away the wood rather than cutting it.

I have used one like this, it works but is quite tiring, see the diagram in a circle:
        http://www.primitivefire.com/Adventurer-Spiral-Wire-Camping-…

Where they are really useful is when you have a high-up tree branch that you want to cut, perhaps because it is interfering with your house gutters. You don't have to climb up to the branch to cut it, you can throw a cord over the branch, and tie both ends of the cord to the saw, so you have a long loop where the saw is part of the loop. Then use the branch like a pulley to get the saw up to the branch. Once in position, alternately pull on each side of the loop and you will eventually cut through the branch.

Edit: I've had a look through Google Images, and what I thought was "standard" are actually quite rare. The braided multi-wire type of saw is much more common than spiral wire (sometimes called "spyral" wire).
