    Thanks OP. I've been keen on one of these for ages!

  • Is this better than a Tamiya Hornet?

    • Nothing is better than a Tamiya Hornet.

    This is a good deal, wish it was a star wars set though.

    Ive been searching for some good prices for lego star wars sets, but everything I am finding is out of stock or expired, can anyone help me out?

    • +1

      We paid $640 for the Death Star 75159 from an ebay seller in Melbourne and collected ourself; looks like he has a few left. 3,500+ pieces in the set. Never spent that much on Lego before though. We were looking to buy from Myer with the 20% off Lego, but it appears the very few left have marked boxes and that is not something you want for a collector set.

      Have you noticed the prices for the older version? Some are even asking for $2,000! I feel pretty sure they originally sold for about $350 … not that long ago!

      • +1

        Death Star is definately not good sample for investment, 10188 is alive for too long, the newer version 75159 is not selling well at Myer.

        • If I had known a few years back that the 10188 would now be worth so much I would not have hesitated in buying a few for investment.

          Myer has sold out of 75159; Melbourne store could not locate any at all. Found one each at Chadstone and Narre Warren but advised boxes were damaged.

        • @JediJan:If you can buy 75159, why would you buy 10188 for higher price? So according to this logic, 10188 has no potential and theoretically the max would be 75159's RRP $800.

          I believe 10188 has RRP $700, that is not a good investment if you hold a $700 worth item for years but only can be sold for less than 20% more(unless you purchased on sale). Its not like other UCS SW Sets like Imperial Star Destroyer or Imperial Shuttle.

        • @rartelif: I would not buy 10188 for a higher price! I am fairly certain it retailed much lower than your RRP $700. I would only spend about $220 max (we have the second version Millenium Falcon … pity not the first) on a Lego item and considered the Death Star 10188 too expensive at the time. I am fairly certain no more than $400 (wish I knew). So, max $400 to $700 even not worthy of investment hey? Why are some selling for up to $2,000 then? I assume some are serious collectors and investors. I don't think the banks pay better than that! Perhaps you are in a different league and own a few Taj Mahals too.

        • +1

          @JediJan: don’t worry, 10188 isn’t actually worth that much if you check the prices they’ve sold for. The new set meant its value dropped a lot.

        • @cnut: I have read that the 75159 is actually a better set … has a "diagnoga" also … the monster in the garbage disposal. Episode 4: A New Hope.

          No idea why Lego brings out new sets of the same models (usually just a minor few changes). Would think it would cost Lego more that way, than just reproducing the same. Son has mostly the earlier ones from around 2000, but has steadily increased his collection … impossible task almost, but some are dedicated collectors that don't even open the boxes. Fortunately son doesn't go that far!

          No idea why Lego brings out new sets of the same models (usually just a minor few changes).

          Because they keep the general crowd happy, ie those who just want a death star etc.

          But then they get the completionists to buy another almost identical set.

        • @t3chshopper:
          A very expensive hobby for some.

      • The earliest 'expired' Millennium Falcons are highly desirable if you can find one now.

        Hi, thanks for the response/ I bought from Myer last week, but my order was cancelled due to item being apparently out of stock (it was in stock when I ordered). Item was Kylo rens tie interceptor (from last jedi) for a good price for $86 or so. I am not looking for collectors sets or to spend a lot. I just want to get good prices on sets I like that will build my diorama.

        • +1

          That is a pretty disappointing result from Myer. They should have rain-checked it for you. I found them fairly helpful in trying to track down the Death Star, only to find stock not available (not what the stock data said) and also the couple that were verified as available in other stores were damaged. In Myer Melbourne check both the Toy Department and the "Gift Registry?" (Where Santa is/was) … different stock there … straight ahead from gate entrance there near a corner is some Star Wars Lego. Can't verify but I thought I saw several Kylo Rens Tie there. We were there Christmas Eve. Sorry I cannit be more helpful. Maybe check eBay too and see if you can save by collecting yourself as we did. Different stores appear to carry quite different stock too. Often found we could find what we wanted from Toys'R'Us; maybe their free membership discount is worthwhile.

        • @JediJan: Yes the online order stated that they checked all nearby stores (I am in NSW) all out of stock apparently. So given this, is it still worth going to my local store and have them help "track it down"? And if they do, will it be for the same price I had the last one ordered at? Thanks.

          I have tried ebay, but the bids always end up too high + postage, however I have had some good luck with gumtree (2007 AT-AP set for $30, no box).

        • +1

          @Ahbal:
          Good price for that AT-AP! Should be able to get better prices if no boxes.
          I would go to your local store and have them verify Myer renegged on your order. Not sure about interstate but the Myer database they have here showed stock levels at each branch. Then ring those stores yourself but make sure they physicallly have it and hold it for you. They should be able to check this for you; staff were helpful even though very busy on Christmas Eve. I think they should honour the price of your order.
          If you can ring Myer Melb and have them check the Toy Section and that "Gift Registry?" place where I think I have seen them. Sounds like this has been a very popular item for Christmas. What shows on Myer online is not really indicative of what stock is at the branches.
          Ps. Not sure if you have these in NSW (but quite possibly do) but we usually visit "Brickvention" in Melb each year; son has 2 tickets for 21 January. We have found stallholders at Brickvention offer better prices. See if you can find some similar event in NSW?

        • +1

          @Ahbal: The cheapest on eBay for a 75179 is $111.30 from Hobby Warehouse. Maybe take copy if your order from Myer and see if they will do a price match.

          Ps. Myer Store on eBay lists the tie fighter incorrectly as 75176 (which is Resistance Transport Pod) when it should be 75179 … $103 but out of stock. Maybe the error is hiding a true stock level. Worthwhile checking out maybe. Good luck.

        • +1

          @JediJan:
          Ok, I might do that, thanks a lot for all the help. I was thinking of waiting until next years new sets (as I got an $88 gift card refund) to see if they are better-as I prefer clone wars sets. I also found a tie striker on Gumtree, got it for $65 shipped, so I think I will stick with gumtree!

        • +1

          @Ahbal:
          Must admit I am not too familiar with Gumtree but I should check it out.

          Good luck with your search. I know what it is like looking for something that is elusive.

    • Had the seacow ship from The Lego Movie, i am 90% sure all pieces are there but cant be bothered to sift through all the pieces checking. The pieces are in great condition and so is the instruction manual. Should i put up a listing on eBay?

      • +1

        You would get a better price if you can confirm it is complete. Kidnap a child for the day!

    Very good price, I bought mine during BIG FF weekends, ended with $65 at that time.

    Pretty fun set, my dog loves this little tank.

    Kmart sells these for $95 amd that's the cheapest of the "regular" prices. This is a great price. Thanks OP.

  • What's up with this listing.. can't checkout, keeps saying "A seller made some changes to an item listing."
    Revisions page just shows changes to postage terms every minute..

    • I had the same issue. Submitted order a second time and it worked.

      • same with me,,,,

      • Got it in the end (after quite a few tries)

        Kept emptying my cart each time I tried, add the Lego again and the other items would reappear.

        Had to be quicker between adding to cart and checking out, in between the revisions.
