  • Always wondered if these umbrellas are worth it. Anybody have experience with Blunt umbrellas?

    • +2

Yes, I carry around it everyday. The xs is really small so rain that goes diagonally will normally hit anything below the waist.

But it hasn't turned upside down despite strong rain and wind.

      It is sturdy and light.

      • +1

I have one too and I agree with it being small. Unfortunately, they don't have anything larger that fits in a backpack.

    • Love these - for sun & rain. Blunt customer service is impeccable!

    • I have the classic. Only my shoes might get wet so pretty good cover. It's been through a couple of windy sessions and it's stayed intact. If you're not going to lose it, get one. I'm normally cheap but hate shit breaking on me, so I'm happy to pay for quality

    • Yeah I've got one of these XS Metro brollies and it's quite long for a 'compact' one, and it's also very small when you put it up, so unless you're under 3 feet tall, you're going to get pretty wet in heavy rain if it's not vertical.

But if you live somewhere the rain is unpredictable, and it's often quite gusty whenever it rains, you'll love having this in your bag (if it fits). I've only had it invert once and it went right back. It's tougher than any of the more compact umbrellas because it only has 2 'joints'. I'm yet to find any other umbrella that I can fit in my bag that can survive windy/gusty weather.

the day we crap $2 coins is the day we buy $82 umbrellas

    • I crap bitcoin 😁

      • +2

        i tend to pass ether

    • I spent $35 on my previous umbrella - a Shelta brand from Myer, the best quality I could find in an actual store… And I got soaked anyway, because it broke in less than a month - 2 mins into a 10 min walk on a stormy day.

The best umbrella is the one you can rely on.

  • This or the Xiaomi 'brela?

  • I was reading on the Blunt Umbrella website they provide a five year repair/replacement warranty. Any idea if that is excluded depending on where you buy it from?

  • +1

Xiaomi umbrella is less than half the price and can close with a button. The blunt can't. The xiaomi also had a bigger umbrella but in a smaller formfactor.

    • blunts are designed for harsh/ windy conditions.

      • +3

I do realise that and I've had one. But their use case is exaggerated. And the metro small ones go inside out on moderate windy days. Xiaomi withstands winds well as well. If you're into marketing gimmick videos of wind tunnels then maybe it's your thing.

Considering how small the umbrella is, on a very windy day they are useless in angled rain.

        • Their use case is exaggerated? About 90% of the time it rains, it's also windy!

You are correct though that due to it's small size, it's not a great option for staying dry in heavy rain. Angled rain is fine, just tip the umbrella to the same angle. Also you can get it closer to your head, so it does cover a little more (but still not enough IMHO).

        • I actually haven't had any experience of my blunt going inside out yet. perhaps its the angle your holding it?

        • @harkoliar: Dude, they are all designed to flip inside out. If they didnt, you'd fly away like Mary Poppins.

        • +2

          @Nukkels:

So because they make their marketing message a good umbrella for windy days that means other umbrellas aren't good on windy days?

In all honesty you seem to be backing up why you threw $80 at an umbrella. I have both this one and the xiaomi. The xiaomi is much better in build, quality and technology.

        • +1

@jared444: Their marketing message turned out to be very accurate - they are great in the wind. I bought my Blunt before Xiaomi umbrellas existed though, and there was little competition 3 years ago.

It's great that you've tried both - and thanks for your recommendation. It's very rare for someone to have multiple umbrellas to provide an unbiased opinion like this :)

        • +1

          @Nukkels:

I agree with you. 3 years ago there were no decent umbrellas in the market which is why I bought one at that time. It was a place with little innovation.

    Metro Umbrella $67.50

So these won't work out in the country?

  • So after delivery you save $3…….HUGE BARGAIN!

  • -1

Wondering who will more than $30 for an umbrella….I guess some people just have too much money…

    • Problem with cheap umbrellas is they don't hold their shape, or turn inside out on a windy day. Worse if the legs break and funnel a whole heap of water down your back.

That's why I prefer a golf umbrella that is large enough to cover me and my bag, yet strong enough to not by flimsy.

  • I found the xs (and Senz) to be not wide enough to be practical. The only one I found that was lightweight and compact with wide enough canopy is the Euroschirm light trek.

    • +1

+1 with euroschirm, covers me more than blunt.

Euroschirm, however I keep pressing the close button so I end up getting drenched because of accidentally closing off the umbrella. That's why I prefer blunt at the moment.

      • I don't have the automatic version of the Euroschirm.

  • Bunnings, $10 all day, every day
    Or Kmart $4-10

  • Don't shelter umbrellas come with a replacement warranty? I remember having one replaced after it broke

Haven't used this umbrella but got a similar one from Japan that's designed to withstand winds and it was less than $30.

is this really worth over $60?

  • I prefer to get wet

  • I miss the Woodworm umbrellas. What ever happened to them.

    • +1

Became too expensive to manufacture. You can still get them at those suit type shops. Funnily enough I think one of Blunt re-sellers is one of those suit type shops that also sell woodworm umbrellas.

  • I just posted a deal on the Xiaomi umbrella for $26 AUD if anyone's interested.
