It seems like you've hurt the hidden frozen gyoza clan.

    • No, they're Prawn

  • How is this compared to Mr Chen's?

    • not bad at all

      • -1

        Mr Chen's no good now

        • I tend to get the Har Gow(prawn dumplings) and egg buns from Chen. But KB does a pretty good har gow now too!

        • agree, I bought Mr Chen's for the first time (vegie variety), it's actually subpar if you compare with dumpling that you can buy from Asian supermarket.

    • not even close.. Mr Chen's is better! Also they're different.

Wow. Didn’t think they made the 1kg ones anymore.
I got these for the first time at the last Coles sale two weeks ago (800gm) and I was very impressed with the prawn Hargow. I usually boil them in soup stock with some noodles and they come out nice, firm, sweet and delicious.

I had to double check that I wasn't actually on p0rnhub.
      Checked.
      Relief.

Boil har gao in a soup?

      First time I hear that.

      You have to steam them.

      • +1

Do what you want with them. Some people even microwave them. I just find that steaming properly takes too much time and that it really holds its form when boiling (unlike the green curry ones which falls apart) that it is a quick and easy way to cook up a batch of dumplings.

    Really good price, thanks OP

    • I am pretty sure half price was $10 or less not too long ago….

  • Do you steam or boil these?

    • Steam fry 😉

    • I like them done this way.. read from step 2.

Nice with some chilli oil :-)

    • Steam then fry.

    • We just steam them over a saucepan. Usually give them about 8 - 10 mins with the water starting at a boil (use a kettle to get that quickly).

Serve with soy sauce and Japanese mayo (Yupi or whatever the brand is that grocers always have).

We much prefer this brand to Crazy Dragon or whatever it is coles stocks.

    • As per the taste.com recipe linked above. Fry for a few minutes first then add water and cover/half cover.
After the liquid has boiled off leave it in for a few more minutes to crisp up the bottom

    • I steam mine. If you have a steam oven it's even easier, I usually steam all dim sims together on one or two trays in the steam oven.

  • so the normal price is same as coles now, $21.3 per kg, as coles is $16 per 750g normally.

  • oh man these are the best!!!!!! just steam fry them

Its actually quite easy to make as you can buy the skins from chinese grocery shop and have your own fresh ingredients e.g. frozen giant crablegs, cooked tiger prawns, lobster tail (wasn $5 each) from woolies boxing day sale.

Good thing I bought a freezer from black friday sale. Yeah ozbargain rocks.

That is if you are fussy where its made from like me as I am feeding my famiy…..

    Now….back to listening black pink

    • Umm… What?

Mmm… I love the taste of trace antibiotics in the morning…

  • Shame they didn’t have the vegetarian version at my local store

Maybe try to ask for a rain check (may be possible even though they don’t stock it at your local) so you can get it at the cheap price when it is NOT on sale as a top up. In the meanwhile go to another Woolworth’s to get it to satisfy your current needs.

  • Many thanks OP! Got a couple

  • Thanks, got 2
