Acer Predator Helios 300 15.6" (i7 7700/6GB1060/16GB/128GB/1TB) + Bonus Mixed Reality Headset (Value $799) $1796 @ Harvey Norman

70

Although this isn't the cheapest price it has been (Harvey Norman had a coupon code around Bathurst time that brought the price down to around $1650 and there have been deals on US Amazon bringing it close to $1500au), this is local stock and comes with a Microsoft standardised mixed reality headset which sell on their own for $799.

Steam VR support is on its way for it - although it doesn't do tracking as well as the Occulus Rift or the Vive but it is a lot less bulky with higher res screens.

The laptop itself reviews pretty well except for some reports of the screen being fairly dim but after having viewed it in person I didn't find a problem with it.

I also couldn't find any local store stock but my order went through online, just fine and they have taken my money so they better not back out! I will update when they get back to me with the specific model of the headset, but my guess is it would be the Acer one here: https://www.harveynorman.com.au/acer-windows-mixed-reality-h… After verification my guess was correct.

just as a heads up, if your looking at selling the mixed reality headset to recoup some cost, they look like they are only fetching $250 on ebay at the moment. Still a good deal regardless

    • They are sold for $600-$650 from Microsoft ebay?

what im saying is boxed headsets are selling being re-sold and only fetching $250.. im not debating the retail price of the item :) im just saying if you search completed items there are plenty selling for <$300

        • That is a pity. So these are subpar against the Rift?

        • @congngo: apparently the tracking is slightly worse but the screen res is MUCH better, think its a simple case of the crowd not catching on yet, everyone knows VR as the Vive and Oculus.

  • Bought from HN the Predator G3-710 on clearance for $1300-ish 2 weeks ago with free Lenovo VR Headset. Was thinking of selling the headset but end up keeping it. Resolution is much better and Vive and Oculus games works well too.

    • That a really good price.

  • Specs make no mention of screen resolution. How odd.

    • The Acer predator screen aren’t the best (too dim). But you do get the 1060 not 1050ti

      • Yes, but is it 1080p? 1440p? 1800p? 4k?

        • Standard 1080p, but subpar compared to the ASUS and MSI.

Just purchased the last one from Mornington.
Specs are awesome for the price.
Used Amex so saved an extra $100.

    • If you had 4 AMEXes you could have saved $400 and got this for $1396.

      • -4

If you had 17.96 AMEXes it would be free ;)

        • Err.. no. You would need to spend a total of $7184 to get this Acer Predator for free.

        • @lostn: Yeah but free laptop :p I know you would need to overspend to get it for free, I was being silly. Didn't mean to offend anyone

  • I bought one. laptop is light compared to my previous old laptop. I am trying to sell the Acer Mixed reality too as I already have Oculus rift.

    • JoelyMoley (above) said that the resolution was much better?

    I spent a few days considering between MSI GF62, Acer Helios 300 & ASUS GL753VE (17”).
All come with VR headset. Was hoping to sell the VR for $300.

In the US GF62 and Helios are of similar price while the ASUS RoG is $300 more. Here the Helios is same price as the ROG. So overpriced IMO.

GF62 is the best value and looks business like. Good for the work office. They are also the lightest.
But it’s mostly plastic and doesn’t have the premium look. They look subpar compared to my older MSI GT60.
I almost purchased the GF62 online.

But I ended up getting the Surface Book i7 for $1500 from Microsoft ebay. They are normally $2000.
It is 6th gen dual CPU compared to Kaby Lake. 8GB versus 16GB.
940m verus 1050ti (but I mostly game on my PC).
There is quite a large performance sacrifice. But I am hoping that it will keep up with my JDK, RSA, eclipse, DB2 setup.

I have some older laptops and wanted a different experience ie. working on the couch!

  • These were about $1500 during the Bathurst supercar sale.

  • Wasn't this deal already posted? Its been going for a few days now..

    • Couldn't find it on a search. But maybe.

      • Come to think of it, it was posted but within the Dell $1350 gaming laptop thread. Someone mentioned that they were considering this or that. Would link but on mobile atm 😉 Dell is expired so now this is the best current gaming laptop deal (if you don't mind mixed vr)

        • I mentioned it in the past posts.

        • @congngo: Ah yep that's right your the culprit :) Hope your enjoying. I'm holding out another year in the hope of a good 1070/1080 maxQ slim lappy deal.

  • I have the Helios 300 on watch at the moment via camelcamelcamel.

Hopefully it hits $899US. So sad I missed out during Black Friday.

Blows the Dell 7000 away if the price is right.

  • Is it good price better then other similar laptop?
    Can you recomand other one?
    If this laptop good price
    I'll buy one

    • At the moment it's the best deal of laptops with a 1060 from my hunting, but they have definitely been cheaper and so have similar specced machines and I was holding out for a deal on something around the $1500 mark. The VR headset swayed me to stop holding but only time will tell whether it really is a good deal or not.

      • The Helios has been as low as $1500 in the past at HVN.
