770

Several Xiaomi phones on sale on 4/1/2018 as per the deal page:

  • Xiaomi Mi A1 (4GB / 32GB) -> Price shows AU$245 at 10pm now. May be $232 stock is over.
  • Xiaomi Mi Note 3 (6GB / 64GB)
  • Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 (6GB / 64GB)
  • Redmi Note 5A Prime (3GB / 32GB)
  • Redmi Note 5A (2GB / 16GB)

Probably No Band 28 in all of these phones (global versions) except Mi MIX 2, but it doesn't seem to be affecting most of the users in Australia - based on their comments on various threads.

Don't forget to claim cashback through cashrewards.com.au.

Thanks to @tassyDevil on whirlpool forum for the sale update.

I think this might be the cheapest price for the Mi A1. Deal doesn't seem active yet though, and there's only rose gold and gold in stock as of posting.

    • Was just shopping around for an A1, and found that most sites charge more (sometimes up to $40 USD) for black (I guess because there's more demand). They might not offer it for this sale for that reason, but you might get lucky.

    • Deal is active now.

  • Gah they messed up the Redmi Note 5a Prime specs, nearly gave me a heart attack when I saw the price.

    • LOL! Me too!

      • Are the specs in my post above correct though?

        • +1

          Yeah they're right

  • +1

    I didn't even know you could get the A1 in a 32gb version…

    • 32GBModel is the newer batch of xiaomi a1 to target cheaper audience, nothing different on hardware side beside the ROM size..

but xiaomi still made 64GB but is harder to find or price more expensive ($50-150 more)

  • How good is the camera for A1?

    • Decent but nothing like a flagship phone. Can be a bit grainy too.

      • +10

Can be a bit grainy too

        Wholemeal camera.

        • Multigrain hey, depending on sunlight.

      • Anyone know if there's a google camera port for this phone yet? Would be interested in how much it improves the camera

Got the 64gb version of the mi A1 and it is awesome! Received the oreo update yesterday.

    • From where did you buy and at what price?

      • +2

Bought it from qd_au on ebay for $296 ($329 less 10% voucher back in December). They ship via DHL as well, received it after 3-4 business days.

        • +1

Great. The NEW10 voucher was targetted and didn't work for me. :(

        • Hi crazynic, just wondering is A1 dual sim? Does it come with auto recording when making phone call?

        • Hey do you have any idea if it's the Global Version? I've had my eye on this one from qd_au, but it doesn't list B20 in the LTE bands (which gsmarena has listed for the global version)

          https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Xiaomi-Mi-A1-5-5-Inch-4GB-64…

        • @barydos:not sure is there a way to check? It doesn't say anything on the box

        • +1

@jassssone: yes it is dual sim, no idea abt auto recording though

        • +1

@crazynic: Wish I knew ahah. On reddit someone else was wondering the same thing about the B20 thingo, and another person commented saying theirs came with a "global sticker"on the box: https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comments/76p7ge/question_reg…

So I was just hoping someone would confirm before I pull the trigger on the qd_au listing :O

        • +1

@barydos: if you find a way to check, i'm happy to assist :)

        • @jassssone: If memory serves me right, recent MIUI-based ROMs have the call recording feature present. You may have to manually turn it on though.

        • @albert0pia: thanks, actually I have Redmi Note 4, which has this function in Miui, but not sure if A1 has same feature or not because it claims Android One pure system.

        • @jassssone: Silly me. I absolutely forgot the A1 runs stock Android. My sincere apologies.

        • +1

          @barydos: I have posted a deal here today: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/353878

        • @virhlpool: cheers mate!

  • Does this have Band 28?

    • +5

No Band 28, no NFC, no biggie for many.

    • -1

As far as I know, no Mi phone has b28.

      • +5

Mi MIX 2 and the older RN3 Taiwan version do.

        • Thanks.

        • And Mi note2 global version.

  • No NFC. :(

    • Yeah. I would like this on a xiaomi phone costing less than $250

  • People who are after 64GB Mi A1 might want to wait because LITB might be bringing a deal soon. Unconfirmed.

    • +1

Wow.. How soon'ish? In a day or week or hours? ;).

Btw, I don't trust all these websites when it comes to timing. Whole Christmas break passed by and not a single 'amazing' deal for value phones in this vacation, leave aside Boxing day. I used to check OzB every hour for those 10-12 days. Weren't holidays (particularly around Chrissy) the perfect time to bring deals to Aussie consumers or is it just me who thinks that eCommerce websites didn't encash the opportunity in this festive season? Sad story for us.

      • +2

There is no indication of the timeline and that's why I put "Unconfirmed", the Rep is negotiating with the supplier. It might or might not work out.

        • Fingers crossed. Hope it works out. Many desperate buyers if well priced, I reckon.

    • +1

I imagine the Xiaomi LGBTI will be here soon also, due to Australian deregulation.

  • +4

What's the next up and coming value phone like the Note 4X?

  • any hint on deal being active time?

    • Nope. Any Aliexpress rep here?

      • They normally go live at 7pm AEDT.

        • Thank you!

  • I picked the 4GB+64GB model from Light in the Box in early November for $264 AUD

    • -2

True.. It is around 262 AUD here.

      https://www.flipkart.com/mi-a1-gold-64-gb/p/itmexnsr2cwzbfht…

I dont think they ship to Australia but given price for 32 GB is at par and not on any discount.

      • +2

Phone prices in India are always cheaper but they never ship abroad.. not the right benchmark for Australian buyers. That way prices in the states are cheap as well but no point.

  • Light in the box had the mi note 3 for US$266 on 6th December. This deal has it for US$297.

I messaged the litb rep (batarobin) but despite his/her best efforts it doesn't look like litb will be resurrecting the US$266 deal anytime soon…

    • Mi Note 3 does not support SD card though. Also no audio jack. Has NFC I believe.

  • Nearly 600 sold already

    • +1

For some people 32GB storage is enough.

  • Bought mix 2 eventually. Not too bad with cash back. thanks for the post.

  • A warranty question if you buy through AliExpress / GearBest etc
Does Xiaomi have warranty agent in Australia or do you have to ship the phone back to China eg supplier ?

    • +4

No warranty agent in Australia and Xiaomi won't help you if you ask because they don't operate here. You would have to send back to the seller.

Be sure to activate Refunded Returns with Paypal for other sellers. Obviously this is no good for AliExpress as they don't take Paypal, but it's good to know.

  • Was looking for the 64gig earlier today to buy. Anyone know if you can extend memory via an sd card for the A1?

    • +1

Of course you can but bear in mind that some of the apps can't be moved to SD card.

      • Thanks.

I bought the 64 for the Mrs from Light in the Box and it did take a while to come through but we were not rushed so it was no issue for us.

    • Many thanks for the info - shame about Xiaomi not having a warranty agent in Australia .

      • +1

I never worried about warranty if the phone cost less than $250… if its a dud.. get another one… still better value than any cheaper mainstream phone that sold in australia

  • +5

For anyone looking to buy from Light In The Box, the delivery time is painful. You probably have to wait at least a month or so before it arrives.

I bought the 64 GB version through Kogan https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/xiaomi-mi-a1-64gb-black/?utm_so…

It is listed for $329. I bought the $50 off Kogan vouchers from Ozbargain Classifieds for $10, signed with Shipster by Aus Post for free postage (make sure to cancel Shipster after the free trial). Ended up paying $289 in the end. Probably will work out even more cheaper if anyone has the discounted Kogan gift cards. You should receive it faster and probably slightly better for any warranty and repair issues.

Kogan also sent me a good Aussie plug. Only opened the phone to check it briefly but haven’t started using it as yet.

    Hope this helps someone.

    • The Kogan vouchers from Ozbargain sellers were valid until 31st Dec only.. no? Are they selling ones for Jan as well?

      • Pretty sure there are vouchers floating around that expire at the end of January

    • +1

I bought a $50 voucher for Kogan too, i was happy to pay a bit more for the benefit of having a reputable warranty rather than risking losing a phone if it was found to be faulty.

  • Mi Mix 2 has Band 28.

    • +1

Mi Mix 2 USD $439.99 at Gearbest with "mix2gbth", not much of a difference but Gearbest has Paypal…

  • A1 Rose gold is coming to $245 for me :( ?? discounted ones sold out or what?

    • did you figure it out, i can only buy as a standard bundle

      • It expired yesterday

  • Looks like black is out of stock? For the A1

  • Mi A1 rose gold from GearBest email special for $1 more, $180, if anyone interested

    https://m.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_1245250.html?wid=4&eo=…

Can pay via PayPal unlike Ali

    • It says 'Email only price'. What does it mean?

      • Special email promo

        • Sites seem to be pushing 32GB for discount. No such sale for 64GB version. :-(

        • @virhlpool: What's gonna have a faster delivery option aliexpress or gearbest?

        • @kiwijunglist: I wouldn't know, sorry. I would assume it depends on seller on AliExpress. GB is slow for sure.

        • @virhlpool: did anyone get their A1 gold. I waited 3 weeks and then they decided to cancel my order due to stock issues.

  • I went with a Mi5x purely because you can flash the same rom on it if needed and the phones look identical

  • Can someone help, it shows as $188.99 as standard bundle. I can't figure out how to order without a bundle.

  • +1

just received my phone - Phone itself is awesome! phone case that they bundled up with it was average though.

I purchased this one for the Mrs who has same phone and it is much better and pretty cheap…

    https://www.gearbest.com/cases-leather/pp_1000670.html

    • Have u tried the camera? How is it?

    • Yup, got mine last week. Ordered the gold as the black was out of stock, but they sent me a black one anyhow. Camera is good as far as I can tell - at least good enough for the pics that I take.

      • Cheers. Any other comments on the phone?

        • I have been using it for a week now and love it. Love the dual sim. Interface is great and have had no issues with it at all so far. I am a becoming a big fan of this brand. I have the robot vacuum which is excellent as well.

      • Indoor or outdoor photo?

        • Mostly indoor photos, but they look sharp to me. Nothing else I can really comment on that sets it apart from other phones, though it does play pokemon go well ;D

  • Anyone received Oreo update yet?

    • nope have not received that yet. It says they are rolling out in batches so hopefully coming soon.

    • +1

Received it now. No issues it’s all working well.
