Minesweeper Pro Free @ Google Play Store (was $2.19)

2020

4.4 from 800 reviews.

Enjoy the classic look and feel of the Minesweeper game as you try to mark the mines without uncovering one. You use the numbers of a revealed square to tell you how many mines are next to that square. Using logic, you figure out where the mines are and mark them. Watch out! If you make a mistake, a mine will explode!

There are two themes available: Classic and Light.

A bit disappointed with the game… You have to actually flag where the bombs are to win. Also, you can cover up uncovered squares using the flag function. Makes speed runs impossible…

    Old Windows version was better!

    • Yes the Windows version is much better, it's called the Terrorist chase!

  • I haven't played this since 1962

    • Ahhh the memories!

      copy and paste ftw

      • I won't discount OP's copy and paste work, because I never knew how to play minesweeper before.

who the hell would pay to play minesweeper?

    • Actually, quite a number of people, there's a world ranking on it. World record is under 40 seconds for expert level.

I rather not relive my child hood nightmare of not being able to understand this game

    • Same, I still don't get how to play.

All I did was randomly click squares and hope for the best lol

You could try my version that I wrote a few years ago as an exercise in learning about submitting apps to the Google Play store.

I know you shouldn't really link to your own stuff here but it's free with no ads so …

… oh and yes, I know it's a bit rubbish, but it's a slightly different tack to the versions linked above.

It's good, but suffers from the same problem all minesweeper apps suffer from: long click is a bad choice for placing a flag. If you don't wait quite long enough, your long click is interpreted as a short click, and BOOM! your game is over.

If you made a version where a single tap places or clears a flag, and a double-tap clears a square, you might find that your app becomes very popular!

Thanks for the feedback - interesting. The best thing to do would probably be let the user select if they wanted single click, double click or long click for each of the actions clear cell and toggle flag. Would be pretty easy to do. I might dig out the code and take a look.

        • Maybe also make the vibration optional. In the morning, if I wake up before my wife does, I play silent games on my phone. While vibrate isn't loud, it isn't silent either.

I like the way you used vibration to indicate long clicks, but long clicks slow the game too much.

        • I just noticed you have updated the app, with all the changes I wanted. Much faster to play now, and no mistaken taps leading to explosions. Thanks!

      • I never knew about these flags people were mentioning in this page until just now! Nice to have a visual aid there.
