    Holy $&#&! Great deal!

    • +1

Great price as a backup/tester, even main unit if you don't transfer data locally.
      Thanks Op and @BrodenIt

    • +1

You had me at "Holy $&#&!"

      Bought thanks OP

  • +2

Bought…thanks op. Will be a great back up unit :)

  • +4

Can this be setup as a repeater/bridge that can use it's own different network and password than the box it's re-broadcasting?

    • I would like to know as well.

    • +4

Hey, unfortunately this can't be used to bridge a different network.

  • +3

    Will this work with VDSL2?

    • ADSL2 only I believe..

    • +4

Hey, unfortunately this isn't compatible with VDSL2.

      • +1

Bugger was on the place order screen luckily I read this part.

  • +4

Can i just use it as a WIFI router with NBN

    Ordered one anyways ..

    • +2

No, it is for ADSL2+ only. It seems that you can't use one of the LAN ports as a WAN port either.

      • Thanks for the response

      • It seems that you can't use one of the LAN ports as a WAN port either.

FYI, you can. Look under "dual wan" settings.

  • +1

Ordered, should be handy for diagnosing issues :)

  • I'm not very knowledgeable on modems etc….How do you use this to replace the ISP/generic modem provided? I'm with Belong (super slow and bad modem). Can I use this to replace Belong's own modem?

    • +1

If you are on a DSL plan yes.

  • +19

    https://www.asus.com/au/Networking/DSLN12E/specifications/

Just so people are aware, it's 2.4GHz wifi (no 5GHz), and 10/100 LAN ports (no 1000)

Cheap for the price, but don't go replacing better modems :)

    • +6

Also lacks support for DDWRT, OpenWRT, LEDE and Tomato.

      • +24

Also does not support water or watermelon.

      • I doubt that there is any ADSL modem supported by Openwrt.

        • +2

LEDE (newer versions of OpenWRT) actually supports several ADSL modem routers as can be seen here.

  • +3

Yeah it’s cheap but this is a very dated model. Has been on special at MSY previously down to $24.

Fine for temporary replacement of another modem or troubleshooting but this isn’t something someone in 2017 should be buying for their use unless they have VERY low needs.

N wireless only (no AC), 10/100 ports and even the ADSL chipset is Realtek not Broadcom based.

    • +1

"Yeah it’s cheap but this is a very dated model."

Suits my setup then … :-)

    • +7

It’s 2018 so is this good now?

    • Could it be configured to create a secondary hone WiFi network to keep all my xiaomi, broadlink, yeelight etc IOT devices separate from my main home network to improve security?

  • I have the ASUS DSL-N12U B1 (it's not in use), I don't know if it makes a difference but DSL gets hella disconnections via phone line. It's unstable, says cannot find ADSL line frequently during first connection after a reboot, once it does find it it'll disconnect again in hours. Your basic ISP provided one is better because it doesn't take like 20 minutes to establish an ADSL connection and it doesn't drop out frequently. But then again I had a line issue which was made more prevalent with this router which was not that prevalent with another one.

    • Its a poor modem if you are far from the exchange. Quite good if you are close to the exchange. I have the same modem but had to move house when I moved to a house far from the exchange.

  • +10

    Buy now. Ask questions later.

    • +7

+100 same here. I do not know why I need it but just bought one.

  • how's this compared with TPG's modem (Netcomm NB604N)? Should I bother?

    Thanks

    • +1

Yours is better at least it has a USB port for file/power sharing

      • +1

thanks "pal" (pun intended) :) still bought one as a backup, you never know when it decides to crap itself lol

  • +2

Will this work with Optus Cable?

  • +3

Be aware that there will be a whole avalanche of cheap ADSL only modem/routers on the market once nbn FTTN sweeps through

    • +31

      When? after 2030?! ;)

    • That won't be for another 5 years. They've already stopped making cheap routers and started bumping up to Gigabit minimums.

    • Are they going to be cheaper than $15 shipped? When can we expect them? A few weeks?

    • I have FTTN and it's no better than my previous ADSL :(

      • +2

        Welcome to NBN :(

        • +1

I would have happily have waited for FTTP, the whole "faster, cheaper, sooner" doesn't sit well with me… it's not faster and it hasn't ended up cheaper..

    • Where did you get the info the NBN FTTN will be replaced by FTTP?

  • Thanks OP! I can now retire my really old one.

  • Don't understand all the relevant techs but good for a spare I'm thinking. Will be on ADSL2/landline with slow computers for a few years yet.

  • Hot damn just ordered 1

  • +2

Cmon rep I think you need to do us a deal on this

    https://www.ple.com.au/Products/615313/ASUS-DSL-AC68U-80211a…

    • +6

Similar only one extra antenna, $19.99 for this one Rep?

  • +1

    72% power saving… 72% of how much?
How many hours of power saving will it take to get my $15 back?

    • +1

With the cost of power these days…not long at all.

    • +5

      72% of 100%

    • Haha, also wondering that as well. What are they comparing this modem with that shows 72% power saving?
I have one, as well as a TP-Link TD-W8960N, currently sitting on top of my book shelf gathering dust now that I am using a TP-Link Archer D9 ($99 from recent Wireless1 deal).
This $15 deal is still a good deal.

      • How's your d9? Any issues? I have a d7 and it likes to drop out everytime I open Hotmail

        • +1

          try putting on a fan

        • +1

So far D9 has been very stable.

  • Thanks OP!

  • +1

    Great as a repeater thanks.

    • Does this work as a repeater? Op suggested otherwise but internet says it has been done. I have done it with a couple of different modem/routers. Maybe Op knows something I don't.

    • Great as a repeater thanks.

  • My last order was 4 years ago and today I’m making another other.

    • +3

      Will mark on my calendar.

  • With TPG ADSL2+, would you benefit from something better than this, like an ac router? How much of a difference would there be? Bought one anyway to replace my parents' crappy 54mbps netgear modem router. Can't go wrong for $15.

    • I have used this, TP-Link TD-W8960N and currently TD-Link Archer D9 with TPG ADSL2+, I don't notice significant difference in download and upload internet speed. In home WIFI situation, the ac protocol does provide faster transfer speed though.

    • From a DSL modem talking point, the bottleneck is your ISP Internet provider, the infrastructure and traffic congestion. In Australia almost every commercial internet provider caps their Downloads speed at 20-24mb/s (much lower for upload) and that's Megabits not even Megabytes, for private downstream users. In practice no one has reached that speed. So almost every single DSL modem does the job.
From a router point of view, you would be better off with an AC router especially if you are in a high traffic multi-user household with mostly newer devices or if you have lots of data transfer locally like a lot of printing, upnp, streaming, connected devices with file sharing. If you only have a couple of old devices that rarely connect to each other or the internet it wouldn't matter.

  • I've got an Archer D9, which I expect is an improvement on this one, so I'll grab one and probably provide as gift to my folks who use a Telstra-issued one…

  • if i have a better router can i use this as a modem only and plug my router into it?

    • Yes as DSL Modem you can. Does your router accept an RJ45?

  • Does this one work with nbn?

    • Not as a modem, this is a DSL Modem.

  • I have been using one of these for about 6 months after my TP-LINK was dropping out several times a day. I was pleasantly surprised at how much friendlier the UI is compared to the TP-LINK and best of all it only seems to drop out every 1-2 weeks while still maintaining similar connection speeds. To stop having to reboot it every 1-2 weeks I have set it to reboot automatically once a week and since then no unexpected drop outs. For this price I can highly recommend.

  • +1

I've sent you a private message.
    Please respond thank you

    • +6

Sorry, i dont accept private messages. Thank you

      • +1

        Huh?

  • thanks op.

  • +2

I have a good old Billion BiPac 7800N that I have been using for 7 or 8 years now with no issues, and will switch to NBN as soon as TPG rolls it out in my area (hopefully this year), so I don't think this will be useful to me then?

    • +1

      You mean your government

      • I ain't getting the reference, BrodenIt, so mind to break it down for me, mate? Do you mean the NBN rollout point? Yeah, I think I am out of the loop with all that NBN thing (though I heard TPG has a separate one of its own).

        • Yes thts what i ment

  • Will it be an 'upgrade' for Netcomm NB6Plus4 link to Asus rt-ac68u? or maybe I should just get one as backup.

    • +1

No. I don't think this is an upgrade to any generation N router onward or any other router for that matter unless you are still using a generation b/g or a wired router or as a DSL modem if you don't have any but as a backup yes.

      • +1

Cheers. I will just grab one for backup as my NB6Plus4 is getting old.

    • I'd say so. I had the same Netcomm modem from my ISP.

  • My order at 14:47 (early?) at Wangarra is still "Awaiting Processing".

Does that mean it will be cancelled?

  • +5

    Hey all,

Thanks to everyone who has ordered! We had an awesome response to this deal and unfortunately we sold out of all our stock quite quickly, so sorry to those who missed out. For those who ordered, all paid orders will be dispatched today!

    Regards,
    The Team at PLE Computers.

    • Awesome - I was worried for a second that I’d run out of excuses to replace my Billion 8400g!

    • +1

Bet the boss will be happy, I'm sure these boxes are dusty lol

      • +1

They probably spent $15 for postage so profits would be very less and get ready for these to be spammed on ebayfleebay

    • +1

Hey Rep. That was outstanding customer service. Thank you and the team at PLE.

      • +1

Yup, Awesome start to 2018 just don't make us wait a year for your next post :)

  • +3

Ple emailed and even messaged me the tracking number! Pretty good customer service.

  • Got mine, thanks!

    So easy to set up.
Genuinely low power - 3.5W at wall, will pay for itself in power bills very quickly over my old modem+router. Just needs a GbE switch.

one problem: the dhcp server hands out low addresses (192.168.1.2 …) which conflicted with my static ones.

  • have anyone had a problem to setup the WAN setting? i have keyed in all the necessary details but the save button doesnt seems to function as nothing was happen when i click the button.

    • what settings? ADSL user/password? try the "quick internet setup" (button or factory reset)

      tried a different web browser?

      • i did the quick internet setup and got the ADSL light powered, however the internet still disconnected then i went to the WAN setting page and noticed the DNS server and username are blanks. i filled it again with my TPG username and password also the DNS server 1 and 2 but could not save it using the save button available on that page.
did the reset button as well and still behaving the same.

        • ADSL light powered, however the internet still disconnected

adsl light just means sync to exchange. No authentication? Wrong user or password for tpg?

WAN setting page and noticed the DNS server and username are blanks.

No such thing. You mean DDNS? Ignore it.

also the DNS server 1 and 2 but could not save it using the save button

remove the dns settings, leave as auto.

        • @manic:
thanks for your reply i will try again tonight, im not sure what i did wrong. i did punched in the user name password and it is correct and accepted. in the DSL status it has traffic exchanging however no internet still.

        • @ishe:

Bad DNS setting will do that. Try putting IP address in browser.

  • +1

Set it up no worries! Enjoying my new router thanks!
