Ugh Cairns Airport. Where the domestic terminal is better than international.

    • +4

Have only been to the domestic shed, so that is concerning..

    • i got frowned upon ordering a beer at 10am there waiting for my tokyo flight a few years ago

      • Danged Philistines!

    • Its a dump the Int. terminal is a disgrace in or out, bland and awful, food is microwaved!

Oh how I miss Japan 😭

Good price. Cairns international terminal is horrible though. Pack food because I think there's one little cafe selling unappetising sandwiches and that's it.

  • any way to make this work for tokyo via cairns from syd?

    • Actually, AirAsia has a promo from Sydney to Tokyo (Haneda) for $489 return right now, but it's a long journey (e.g. try 30 Sep - 14 Oct).

    • Book it and wait for a cheap flight to go on from Syd - Cairns? What I did with a Sydney - GC flight, I booked the Japan one out of haste and then got lucky to have a $29 cheap flight with it.

  • +1

$602 return from Sydney seems to be the cheapest which is not a good price.

    • +5

well, it'd be a good price if it was with a full service airline :)

  • Melbourne seems to have nothing under 600 unless I'm missing something.

For around $100 more, I'd go with full service Singapore Airlines as per this deal.

          Good call

      • Still basically 600, presumably there'd be a booking fee too, bringing it up to the 600 total.

I'm mostly saying there's no ridiculously good 300 buck flights from Melbourne, is all.

  • Last Sept. I booked the gold coast to tokyo direct flight return tickets for 350, date is 26 March to 3 April, hope I can catch the cherry blossom.…

    • Link to that deal?

      • Thats the jetstar return for free deal, normally 2 3times a year

  • Couple of years ago I did into Haneda and out of Osaka with air Asia (bullet trains to Kyoto and Hiroshima and Osaka) out of KL.
If you get a cheap Oz-KL fare… it’s worth testing your dates.

Not really cheap if you add on check-in baggage cost and all the flights cost. Beside Airasia is no longer cheaper now compare with all the sales fare from full service airlines.

      • Rubbish.

  • Last trip on jetstar Bali, plane left 45mins late, seat was hard as a rock, front passenger had seat fully reclined in my face, food awful, enough for me with them.

    • +1

LOL it's Jetstar. You get what you pay for.
I went on a similar flight out of the Gold Coast - Narita for $340 on Jetstar. Did some research before I went and glad I did. Brought a blanket to sit on which helped but seat was still quite hard. Just got up every now and again. My plane left about 40mins late, which didn't exactly bother me because a) I expected it and b) I had just come from a flight SYD - GC.
Food is absolutely terrible, don't bother paying for it - make it yourself and bring it on.
Only used carry on as the baggage fees were ridiculous (they quoted me $350 to send 1 suitcase there and back).
All in all, not exactly a pleasant experience but for the price I paid, I would do it again.

front passenger had seat fully reclined in my face

Sorry to tell you, but unless you fly premium economy upwards, this is always a problem.
