    Great price!

Since it's Xiaomi, kinda expecting it to be a smart-screwdriver with wifi and bluetooth.

    • But no B28

  • +20

I'll probably get negged for this. I actually bought a set during Christmas and not sure why I did. Yes it's high quality but really is it even necessary. There's nothing this set does that a $2 set won't do… It's a screw driver set!

    • +4

      Thanks, changed my mind

    • -4

Agreed so over priced for what it is, yet the sheep keep on flocking 😀😀

      • +4

Ahh, you (and Vietsoldier) clearly don't use tools much.

Anyone who uses tools frequently will tell you that there's a huge difference between cheap bits made of metal that's as hard as cheese, and proper bits that are made of proper tool steel (H2 in this case, rated at 60HRC). The bits are by Wiha who are a huge German company that produces professional tools.

If all you need to do is tighten the screws on your glasses every now and then, then the cheapo kits out there (like the $3 Daniu) would work fine. If you're a more serious user, then those cheap kits are terrible as the bits get chewed up quickly leading to cam out which will damage screw heads.

          S2*

          FTFY

        • It's good that you vouch for these. If you are a jeweller or someone who repairs mobile phones for a living, I get why these would be worth it. For myself and the majority of people, when you're in rare need to dismantle small pieces of electronics then a $2.80 set from Daiso will likely be fine.

I originally bought thinking the set was motorised but hugely disappointed when I realised the mistake I made. My 2 cents anyway.

        • +2

          @Vietsoldier:

So in reference to your original statement:

          There's nothing this set does that a $2 set won't do… It's a screw driver set!

You now see why this is better than a $2 set?

For myself and the majority of people, when you're in rare need to dismantle small pieces of electronics then a $2.80 set from Daiso will likely be fine.

Sure, that's why just about everything comes in cheap versions and expensive versions. What you did was buy a $250 DeWalt drill, then said there's nothing that it does that a $40 ALDI drill won't do. For your use perhaps, but that's because you bought a heavy-duty tool for your light-duty work, rather than the heavy duty tool being overpriced.

I originally bought thinking the set was motorised but hugely disappointed when I realised the mistake I made. My 2 cents anyway.

That's a slightly different story there. You originally said you bought it, weren't sure why you bought it, and it was the same as a $2 set.

          @eug:
I had an ebay special from years ago, and although you might not need the precision tooling, the ergonomics of the entire package is great.

My old tool came with a clunky plastic case. It was difficult to even expose the bits. Once you remove that, it was also a pain to get the bits out of the holder. Also there were a few phillips bits that were more frequently used and 2 of them have broken.

Now I probably spent $7 on it and it has lasted me close to 10 years. I expect this set to last even longer, while providing a better experience so the difference is definitely worth it!

Functionally cheapies will work just fine, but this is a pretty cheap luxury item that I use semi-often.

        • @eug: you clearly love these screw drivers. Please don't lose sleep over my comments it's not healthy :)

        • @Vietsoldier: Hmm? Why the passive aggressiveness? No one is losing sleep over anything you say. You just got caught out commenting negatively on a tool that wasn't meant for your kind of usage. It's OK to be wrong now and then, everyone makes mistakes.

        • @eug: I stand by my comments. For me these $20 screw driver set isn't worth the money, and for most people a $2 set will do the same thing as this one.

For whatever strange reason you feel the need to hyperanalyse my comments, make false inferances that I have not made, suggest that I'm wrong, then question me with aggressiveness???

        • @Vietsoldier:

Do note that my first comment was directly replying to bonjovi's comment, so follows the tone of his comment.

make false inferances that I have not made,

Can you point out what false inferences I made?

You clearly stated that there's no difference between this set and a $2 set.
You later admitted that there is a difference. So you yourself admitted you were wrong about your original post.

Where do the false inferences come in?

    • +2

Had a few cheaper sets where the smaller torx bits are really bad manufactured and wont fit even though its the correct size. Especially T2 bits

    • +1

Just like Snap On tools lost it before I snap it off. better save the money buy something else.

    • +4

The packaging alone is worth the price. Smartly put together, clips in and out, magnets hold everything in place.

It comes with all the tips you never seem to find elsewhere (the exception being those multi-tools that have a tiny little tool attached to a ring that are impossible to hold, and bend more than you actually twist). For the price, I've yet to find better quality.

I couldn't recommend these more, even if you just want to rip apart that McDonald's toy, or change your Apple devices battery yourself (blasphemy!)
First time in a while I haven't had to say "why the (profanity) didn't they makes it (insert common sense here)"

    • I like to buy things I know will last. It means less landfill, and often no more expensive when you factor in the multiple times you have to re-buy cheaply made products as they don't stand the test of time.

    • +1

2 things this might help with both in High Torque situations (like when they glue those tiny screws in!)
      1) harder and more accurately formed tip - less likely to get damaged over time and less likely to cam out.
      2) I've found the shafts on the cheapies are merely glued to the handle and rapidly end up spinning uselessly.

    • I bought the $14 Hitachi bit set (104 piecess) & the $1 screwdriver, I think that just about does it for me.

    • I like my tools. I collect Wiha, Felo, Wera, Pb Swiss, Knipex and various other European tools. I also have plenty of cheap tools where i abuse the slotted head screwdriver for prying and carving.

Paying almost $20 for a Xiaomi branded Wiha made set of tool is insane. In any case, the Xiaomi branding actually water down the prestigious Wiha brand. I rather buy something like this, if you want all the different types of bits.

      • +1

In any case, the Xiaomi branding actually water down the prestigious Wiha brand.

That's probably because we're looking at it from a Western perspective. I've read that in China, Xiaomi is considered by many to be the Apple of China. It makes sense - XiaoMi products do seem to be of consistently high quality with good design. Their packaging is usually well-designed as well - even if it's just a $4 Xiaomi wireless switch.

        • I a big fan of Xiaomi. I am one of the earliest adopter of their robot vacuum and I have also given away plenty of their excellent usb powerbank to my relatives. I have no issues with their electronic stuff. But this whole screwdriver bastard child thing between Wiha and Xiaomi just screams brandname rip off for customers.

I rather have a cheap set who cares if the bits are made out of ultratough harden tips. If the bit breaks I can replace it cheap. You don't need harden bits for small screws low torque application. Look at the bitholder handle, it's so slim how are you going to apply torque? For threadlocker, you would heat up the screw with soldering iron, this will help break the bond.

If you chew through harden bits then you wouldn't be using this. You would need bits in bulk packs aim for industrial use. This set is more like a collectible.

But this whole screwdriver bastard child thing between Wiha and Xiaomi just screams brandname rip off for customers.

Have you seen a set in person? The workmanship easily rivals brands like Wera and Wiha. If you compared a set of Wera drivers to this Xiaomi Wiha set, it's the Wera that looks like the "brand-name rip off" as the Wera has way more plastic and the quality of the Xiaomi Wiha looks just as good, for half the price.

I rather have a cheap set who cares if the bits are made out of ultratough harden tips. If the bit breaks I can replace it cheap.

Seeing that you like your tools, I'm a little surprised you don't see the benefit of having good tips.

It's not so much breaking bits, but rather bits that get worn down. The smallest amount of wear on a bit will make it easier for the bit to cam out, which will also damage the screw head, which will then make it even easier for bits to cam out. I'd rather have e.g. 1 bit that lasts 2 years rather than 10 bits that have to be replaced every 2 months.

You don't need harden bits for small screws low torque application.

Some threadlocked screws require quite a bit of torque to break. Screws that suffer from corrosion would be a lot more susceptible to damage from a worn-out bit too. And unusually (for 4mm bits), the set comes with a PH2 bit as well.

It's the same reasoning as all your other tools. Why did you pay $50 for a pair of Knipex pliers when lots of people are happy with an $8 Trojan?

        • @skillet:
+1 if the kit you've linked to is as good as it sounds..
Maybe I never knew what to search for, or maybe they're fresh to market on the heels of the Xiaomi set, but I've been after a decent set of "Jewellers Screwdrivers" for years and never been able to find them… Even the Kingchrome set I inherited from my Dad are barely better than the $2 sets.

EDIT: $6.53 minimum China Post shipping cost on top of the $6.29 = US$12.82 (AU$16) total…
the "brand name" gear is looking pretty decent value at only $3 more

        • @eug:

Have you seen a set in person? The workmanship easily rivals brands like Wera and Wiha.

I bought mine during Banggood preorder sale. I don't see any workmanship, it's probably 100% work-machine-ship for the whole set. Maybe 5% for someone to stake the spinning end cap on the handle and assemble the bits and pieces. Yes finish quality is no doubt top notch as with many Xiaomi goods.

Seeing that you like your tools, I'm a little surprised you don't see the benefit of having good tips.

From experience, you use harden bits for common screws which you can source easily from the hardware stores. ie Powertools driven screws etc. You use bits that wear down for micro screws that is harder to source. If you want repeatability, you won't wait 10 years to replace your bits. Even Horologist sharpen their precision screwdriver blades regulary to prevent screw head damage. So I rather replace my cheap tips regularly. Tools should be replaceable especially tool bits.

Some threadlocked screws require quite a bit of torque to break.

Look at the Xiaomi screwdriver slim & sleek handle, torque transfer is last closest thing in mind. This is where I feel buyers are short changed. They could have designed a handle which is more ergonomic(look at other Wiha's line up) but they choose to go with a clean simple tube with two flat sides. This is extremely simple machining that requires minimal tooling which cut cost dramatically(profit up!).

Pro Tip! Warm up screw with soldering iron to weaken threadlocker bond before unscrew. This will give your precious harden bit a few more years.

It's the same reasoning as all your other tools. Why did you pay $50 for a pair of Knipex pliers when lots of people are happy with an $8 Trojan?

I paid AUD$75 for a 250mm Knipex plier because the $29.98 250mm Trojan Plier jaws only opens to 39mm where as the Knipex does 46mm. The jaw width makes a big difference when it comes to my farm irrigation. Yes I have both, don't look down on Trojan tools, they are getting better every year. Love their G clamps.

Wait for next Xiaomi deal, I wouldn't pay more than AU$25.

        • @skillet:

Yes finish quality is no doubt top notch as with many Xiaomi goods.

So going back to your original statement saying that this Xiaomi-Wiha set is a ripoff, if Xiaomi can produce a well-finished product in conjunction with Wiha for $19, wouldn't you say the real ripoff is the Wera or [insert brand name here] that's double the price and has way more plastic?

Of course they have different use cases (you'll need a thin shaft if the screw is deeply recessed for example), but if you just look at what you're getting, the Xiaomi Wiha set looks like far better value than the Wera doesn't it.

Tools should be replaceable especially tool bits.

They're all replaceable. The difference is how often you have to replace them.

Look at the Xiaomi screwdriver slim & sleek handle, torque transfer is last closest thing in mind.

Fortunately they're standard 4mm bits, so you can use them in any standard 4mm driver.

You can even use them in cordless drivers like the ES120 that can put out 2Nm of torque which is quite a bit for tiny screws.

This is extremely simple machining which cut cost dramatically(profit up!).

Wouldn't moulded plastic like the Wihas be cheaper than machining and anodizing aluminium? Profit even higher up. :)

I pay AUD$75 for a 250mm Knipex plier(chadstoolbox.com) because the $29.98 250mm Trojan Plier(bunnings.com.au) jaws only opens to 39mm where as the Knipex does 46mm.

What about a 300mm Vise Grip for $35? Point being, you paid extra for Knipex (and Felo, Wera, etc) when cheaper alternatives do exist.

Perhaps the Knipex is just a bit more well-made - it's not too different to people paying $19 for this Xiaomi Wiha set when you can get something that'll do the job for most people for $10. You thought that the extra $40 or so for the Knipex was worth it because it actually does benefit your use, but everyone else would probably think it's a waste of money because they don't have the same usage scenarios as you. You're not wrong, they're not wrong - different people just have different use cases. This Xiaomi set would be excellent for some people, but it's definitely overkill for a lot of people. It's not that it's a ripoff, it's just that people have different requirements.

        • @skillet:

Yeah, I've been holding off buying them. Unfortunately missed out this deal.
At $20, easily worth it I think.

Been hanging out for this, thanks very much.

    • Tell me when you break up :P

      • +1

To tell the truth, I have a set of full size Wiha drivers (~$200), plus an OK set of precision drivers in the drawer at home but these look like they are very high quality so I couldn't say no. I even paid the $5USD for delivery and insurance because I want to take a look at them ASAP.

I would've got 2 but it seems you can only redeem the code a single time.

I have genuinely been checking the site about 10 times a day for the last week to see if they appeared on sale again.

        Many thanks once again.

        • Ive never done it but i think you can set up product alerts if your keen for something in particular.

        • +2

@DarwinBoy: I did that. Seemed a good idea at first to setup an alert for "Xiaomi"… Now I need a dedicated email address just for the alerts.

    • Don't forget +ve vote.

  • Does anybody know any decent magnetic head ones?

    • +1

Buy a magnetizer and the magnetic world is your ferrous oyster.

      • Thank you, I always thought that you need to keep the tips there for a long period of time. I took a look at some youtube clips and I saw that is not a case. Thank you very much, my friend, I learned a new thing today and I will definitely buy one.

        • +1

You're welcome. You don't even technically need to buy one, if you have an old set of speakers or pick up an old set from a council clean up….an old speaker magnet will perform the same task. You just have to dismantle the speaker.

But they only cost about $5.00 anyway.

    • +1

      These are magnetic..

      • Nowhere in the description does it say magnetic and they usually advertise this, are you sure?

        • Yes, when I magnetize mine, they can hold screws.

        • @eug: Wait, so they are not magnetic, but they can be magnetized (and I assume hold it for a while).

        • +1

Not sure if the bits are magnetic per se, but they become magnetized once placed in the handle which holds them magnetically.

          So yes?

        • @misu p:

Wait, so they are not magnetic, but they can be magnetized (and I assume hold it for a while).

Yup, the bits themselves aren't magnetic out-of-the-box. But you can magnetize them.
Salamando is correct too, when you put it in the handle, the magnetism from the handle lets the bit pick up small screws.

        • @eug: Cool, thanks guys.

  • Thanks broden, bought for eneloops.

  • is it coming up as $26.04 for anyone else? not allowing me to apply coupon to get it down to $19.46 as per title.
