  • Excellent deal OP! Was looking at this lens yesterday, has anyone got any feedback vs the Sony 35 or 50mm?

    • I have the 50mm - awesome lens but for me it’s not wide enough for kids shots indoors. Is this one stabilised?

      • This isn't stabilized, I've got a A6500 so the in body stabilization will take care of it. I use the 16-35mm for ultra wide shots but it's only F4

General consensus is that Sony will be better for videos due to OSS (assuming your camera doesn't have this) but the sigma produces sharper images.

  • Thanks, definitely going to grab one of these - been waiting for a 20% sale.

  • Grab one, thanks to OP.

  • Ordered 1 around 2pm today. A little over an hour later, received an email from seller saying it has been dispatched. Impressed.

  • Is this lens wide enough for night sky/astro photography?

I would go with 12mm Samyang F2 very afordable and sharp prime lens. Took this picture last month, middle of the night in Iceland (cloudy so no stars but you can see it's very sharp) https://instagram.fper2-1.fna.fbcdn.net/vp/dbd28b4bedb9d0043…

      • Was this handheld or on a tripod? How did you get the link to the original Instagram post?

        • Tripod all the way, this was an exposure of a few seconds (can't recall how many exactly). You can get the direct link on Insta by right clicking and do a Ctrl + F for .jpg first result will be the CDN link to your original upload.

        • @points4life: sorry, forgot to say. Right click and view source.

      • Also consider the Sigma 16mm f1.4 on sale via ebay too. It's arguably more useful than the samyang due to the autofocus.

        • Probably a better lens but also more expensive. Auto focus isn't very useful for astro or night photography but the F1.4 would be an advantage

Ordered 1 around 11am yesterday, and received it today. Really happy with the lens.

  • Sorry for the newbie photography question, but what’s the main use for this lens? I’ve got an A6000 and just purchased the 50mm f1.8 lens. Mainly looking at taking portraits of the kids.

  • Out of stock right now. Was about to buy

    • Keep checking, they do replenish stock levels.

  • Still looking for deals for sigma 17-50 f2.8 for canon

  • I love the photos from my Sigma 30mm F2.8 DN, can I assume this would be a fairly large upgrade? Or am I only going to notice the difference in low light?

  • regretted not pulling the trigger on this lens during boxing day sales when digitalcamerawarehouse had it for $395
    great deal, just ordered one
    thanks OP!

  • is this item still on sale? i can't seem to apply the code to get the offer.

Hi, I'm a total newbie in photography. Just bought a Sony a6000 recently during Christmas and been playing around with the kit lens, now I am thinking to buy a better lens to try out as a starter but i don't want to spend too much. Can anyone recommend whether I should go with this 30mm f1.4 lens or the 19mm f2.8?
I will be mainly taking photos and videos of the kids, outdoor and indoor. Occasionally at night with low lights and sometimes in closed up mode (macro) on a few things here and there etc… I consider good video quality is also an important factor for me as I don't want to missed out footages of the kids in action.
Is this 30mm f1.4 is the obvious and better choice compare to the 19mm f2.8? Does the differences in photo and video quality can justify the price difference? Your experience and experts views please. Cheers.

    • I would go for a stabilized lens, unlike the A6500 the A6000 doesn't have in-body stabilization. But 30mm vs 19mm, I would go for 30mm as you will get nicer results taking portraits with a nice bokeh. In real life 30mm works out to 45mm on APS-C

    • I'm in the same boat, have a NEX 5R.
Want something better for low light & indoor conditions (& therefore a bit wide), and similar to you, I would like it to be good for videos of the kids.

  • Super fast delivery. Got it today for the weekend fun :)

  • My lens arrived on Friday. Had a chance to play with it this weekend, awesome glass for the price. Probably my favourite lens in my kit at the moment.
