Is it legit? Dealextreme usually sells fakes.

    • since it doesn't have the genuine tag it should be fake

  • +1

yeah is it legit? brand new original packaging?

  • It was released in 2006 so i expect it to be that price

  • +2

Well it indicates that some of the accessories are non-genuine, but who cares at this price. 30GB capacity for $60 < is an amazing price.

  • +2

Looks fake, doesn't mention Microsoft anywhere.

  • I've never head of a fake 30GB HDD mp3 player before…. Most fakes seem to be the domain of lower capacity solid state palyers.

That all said, the price does seem a little too good to be true (even if it is a refurb).

  • +1

    If anything they are refurbs.

add it to the title then so people don't waste their time assuming they'll be the first owner if they bought one.

      • It doesn't say "refurb", this is just speculation, so this shouldn't be added to the title.

        • Even if it isn't a refurb, it's likely very old stock that has been sitting for a while (maybe a few years) because this is a 2006 model.

      • What? I don't know it's a refurb. Why would I confirm it to people if I don't know myself?

  • +2

    From one of the reviews:

"Cons: -Appears to have been used, background was set to a picture of some older blonde lady"

    2nd hand stuff?

    • +14

      was she nekked?

  • woot price dropped. It was like $80 or something before.

  • be glad, microsoft=drm, at full price this probably flopped partly because of those crappy wifi drm restrictions…

    • how does its wifi features affect its function as a media player?

  • Seriously considering buying one.
    I don't need it but I wouldn't mind having a higher capacity MP3 player.
    Anyone else buying?

  • +2

confirmed as refurbs, but still cheap

  • +4

Quite likely it's a refurb, I have 2 refurbs from 2007 and they work flawlessly to date. Excellent media players and I use mine for about 3 hours each day of the week.

The two refurbs I got were perfect, they do say refurbished on them but still work fine. DX have had Zune's for a long time so I'm sure they are legit and not dodgy knock-offs.

And $58 is not a too-good-to-be-true price either, I paid $79 ea for mine back in 2007 so a $20 price drop is not out of this world.

Only disadvantage are lack of accessories, annoys me that iPod speaker docks are dime a dozen, where as you'll struggle to find anything for these guys.

I'd buy one just for the dizzying pleasure of not having to suffer through iTunes

because wmp is so much better and btw its only two years until the next leap year

      • +1

the number of sad-face icons i've seen on my and my friends' ipods is amazing. Their absolutely ridiculous form-over-function shiny metal backs also get scratched terribly if you even so as much breathe on them. Plus, it took apple seven years to fix their EQ so it doesn't distort. Shocking.

itunes is terribly laggy. Must be poor coding.

        • +1

did i say itunes was good? i said wmp aint much better, ideally pmps should as act as mass storage devices, and you can choose the client to access it

and by the way the reason that you see so many ipod sad faces is because of the shear number of ipods around. when was the last time you seen a zune? and when was the last time an ipod crashed because its a leap year?

ipods is far from perfect but its still one of the better mp3 around

        • Saying it's ok to see lots of broken devices because there's lots of them around is a poor excuse. Imagine if you used the same excuse for mobile phones. There are way more mobile phones than ipods, but I haven't seen one fail in the same way, whereas amongst the same group of people, their ipods have failed.

I've only dealt with five zunes, none of them have had problems.

Why harp on one single leap year bug that only affected it for one day? What about the fact that Apple took seven years to fix their broken equalizer - on a music player? The ipod's sole purpose of existence is to play back music, and it took so long to make the eq work properly. Actually it's probably safe to assume the problem has been there since the first generation in 2001, so it took them nine years.

For a long time, ipods have had a good ui, but that was pretty much it. Sound quality was average for a long time (bass rolloff problems, hiss, terrible EQ), some ipods had earphone socket issues (electronic noise if you move the plug around on the 4g ipods), poor material choices (self-scratching first-gen nano, shiny metal backs on all the others), sad face icons, etc.

I just picked up a current-gen ipod touch and finally, the sound quality is good. But the poor choice of materials still plagues it, along with misleading marketing surrounding the retina display.

      • You aren't limited to just WMP…

      • Who the HELL still uses WMP?

Honestly people, Tag & Rename. All you'll ever need.

  • I had this a few years back before my classic. It was junk, ebayed it ASAP. Horrible interface, horrible controls, slow transfer speed and so on.

  • Just ordered one along with some nunchucks for the kids wii didn't really need it but the price is good.

    • You're all good as long as you don't expect to receive it by Xmas. They normally take 2-3 weeks to deliver but with the festive season up as well as security concerns you'll probably get it just before or after the New year.

  • I bought one!

  • my order along with 3 nunchucks still hasn't shipped thinking of cancelling it says something about waiting on stock from suppier:( dont really need a zune anyway was an impulse buy.
