The S8 is already at an excellent price, but I would expect to see improvement on the S8+ more so than the Note 8.

Exactly, S9 probably comes out with big price tag (plan price as well), then may wait 5,6 months to get real bargain, by the time S10 leaked picture or specification (even note 9) out, people may say we wait S10 then.

We have three Optus services in the family, all charged at the advertised price.
You have been overcharged and should contact them to rectify and credit you with the difference.

Wondering if any Ozbargainers who've used the 12 months $99 trade-up, had any success doing a bit earlier than the stated 12 months? Say 11 months or 10 months into the contract
When I went in to enquire about my phone, I have approx 3 weeks left until my 1 year trade up. The rep advised me no because the system doesn't have that option to select, once the 1 year is up, the system gives the option to reps to select the trade-up. So it's a system thing not a human-can-bypass the policy thing lol
When I got mine they specifically said this deal was not eligible for the trade-up as it was promotional or some crap. Sorry bro!
Check the critical information summary for the plan on the website, it says it is eligible for the New Phone Trade Up.
To clarify, people already on contract are not eligible to "Trade-up" to this deal.
But in 12 months time those who sign to this deal can "Trade-Up" to a new deal.
That's what I was told when I asked about it.
@juicenburg: Base on my understanding, these good price plans are targeted for new service or new customer while one of selling point is Trade Up, however you never get good deal for trade up as they always excluded, unless sell your phone and payout, then re join Optus.
@jassssone: trade up is a waste of money costs $99 & hand the phone back & stuck in another 2yr contract, instead sell phone in a year get $700-$800, buy Note 9 outright around $1000, wont be locked into another 2 year contract & only costs 2-300 to upgrade phone
So angry, I re-contracted my father on the 85+whatever payments for the phone which came to like $104 per month……… this was last week, now this deal came out. Geez…….

What does it mean $0 upfront phone? It doesn't seem to tell you the monthly fee for the phone so how can I work out the cost of early contract cancellation?
Monthly fee for the phone is normally $62, which they credit each bill.
So should you cancel the fee would be $62 x remaining months.
Been talking to the Optus rep for last 30mins…
They're not letting my apply student discount (studentedge) or even the $10 bundle discount (I have Optus cable)!
Value drops without those discounts (would be $62pm for me with both of them).

Just picked up this deal. I'm thinking the S9 and Note 9 may only be incremental updates; this deal is too good to pass up. Optus also dropped 70% of what was remaining on my plan (4 months) for this deal, about one of the few positive things i can say about Optus…..
I'm with Virgin, still using my Note 5 out of contract, seriously considering this deal, unless I can talk Virgin into offering me something similar. What are my chances??

Galaxy S9 likely to be announced at MWC in Feb so we will probably see some good deals for this and the S8 over the next few weeks.
