anyone happy to see the that amazon.com.au is the seller of the item :)

Yeah, about time they had something that's even slightly cheap.

  • Great drives, partly (mostly) because you can easily disassemble them to get a standard 2.5" drive out of them.

    • Are you saying you can throw in an SSD in this case?

      • Probably. I broke the internal plastic tabs opening the case, but you could fairly easily glue it back together. It's got a nifty little SATA->USB3 adaptor board internally.

        • Interesting, first I'm hearing about this. I might have to get one and experiment a little. Cheers!

          @dumbmillenial:
I read one comment on the Amazon page linked that states : " You can no longer use this HDD to replace PS4 internal hard drive. Seagate has removed internal SATA connection. I am somewhat confused why people were doing this. 7200 RPM laptop drives would be much better choice because of performance considerations." tread carefully

        • @judge39: Damn. In that case, you might be better off with something like this.

        • +1

          @judge39:firecuda is best for Ps4.

        • +2

@judge39: it is significantly cheaper to buy a drive this way would be the main reason.

The 1tb and 2tb drives are 7mm thick and fit in a laptop easily

  • Been waiting a while for a uber cheap drive, thanks OP!

A tad concerned about all of the negative reviews regarding this drive online, particularly about the Drive failing after time.

    Any personal experiences here?

    • One of mine from TGG did not work at all - couldn't be detected I thought it was just the laptop I was using but tried others and it's doesn't work. The other one I have has been fault free. I guess it's pick and mix, I've had the drive for over a year - just to store photos and it's not faulted yet.

I have alot of experience in data recovery and while this is a great price, it is a badly designed drive. It has a significantly lower recoverability rate than comparable drives, and particularly prone to sudden head failures and stiction (where the heads get stuck to the disk, usually from a bump or drop while its running). You'd still need to get unlucky for it to fail on you, but don't keep anything on them that isn't backed up.

Rule is if you don't have it in two places you don't have it.

  • Notice Officeworks have this drive for $69.00 wonder if they will price match?

      • you get bonus price match for back to school

20% of if it is on a school list otherwise 5%.

        • +1

How do you check of its on the school list

  • I ordered the Logitech speakers on opening day that were a price error, did we get a $50 gift card? I just got 2 delivered with back to school promo and $50 off it.

  • Disregard forgot about back to school promo.

  • I don't know why I'm not buying this lol. It's a great deal, but there's just no buzz to rush and buy?

    • I just had too many hard drives including the recent 4tb form amazon USA. So I’ll pass…

    • Partly because ssd absolutely flattens these things in every respect but price and total storage

      • every respect but price and storage

As an Ozbargainer, they are the only things that really matter to me ;)

        • +1

Once you have dropped a hard drive and experienced 12sec boots everything else pales in comparison. I agree though that for an xbox or playstation this is a useful deal

  • better "save" this deal

JB is currently doing WD 3TB for $119
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/all-computers--t…

much better options as cost per GB is less

    • Will that work with a PS4?

      • Yes it will. as external for sure.
        its USB3.0, ps4 supports upto 8TB

      • Can work as an external drive on game consoles but WD portable drives all have the SATA connector replaced with a soldered on USB3 so you can't cleanly install it as an internal drive :(

    • +2

While it's true bigger drives will give you better GB/$ sometimes people dont need a bigger drive and just want the cheapest

  • -6

if 3TB for $54 then is a bargain.

  • +2

So many people on Ozbargain are techie. But not me. So, forgive the question techies: I need an external hard drive to store stuff from my Mac - will this do the trick? and is it as simple as plug it into my Mac and drag and drop the files I want to store on it?

    • +1

You would need to format it first.

      Its not hard to learn.
You will need yo use the disk management tool inside utility folder.

    • +1

      Here's a how-to.

It seems like a big read (some useful info there) but depending on the drive it usually takes just seconds (as long as you don't do a highly secure erase on a large spinning drive).

    • Showing $99?

      • $84 @ Checkout.

Really only want a WD or HGST. 4tb preferable. I'll keep waiting, it might be a while

    Thanks op

  • A pretty good deal, thanks OP.

Isn't it being a Seagate an issue?

  • Nice…picked it up for $34 applying the $20 store credit they gave after that recent Babylove nappy fiasco!! Was wondering how I would have to lower myself to buy from them to use it!

  • Shouldn't buyers be waiting/looking for SSD drives in this day and age, as opposed to one's with moving parts and requiring a power input?

Great price from Amazon AU - about time.

  • This is showing up as $74.99 for me in the cart plus shipping at $9.41?

    • Looks like Amazon are no longer selling them - the listings are all for third parties

      • Possibly sold out. Deals expired then.

  • Arrived yesterday. Poor packing, no cushioning inside box, free to rattle around. Works though, so …

    • +1

Mine arrived mid last week, they must have put your cushioning in mine as there was more bubble wrap/paper than hdd! :D
