  • Work so well these things

    • I have my kettle plugged in to one, love being able to turn it on before i get out of bed in the morning.

      • I assume you'll need to remember to switch your kettle to the "On" position every evening! What Gateway device are you using?

        • lol, yeah have had to retrain myself to fill kettle and turn on AFTER pouring a coffee!

          I use standard Xiaomi Gateway

      • Or get a Xiaomi kettle

        • Can you turn the kettle on via the app, or just control temperature?

        • +1

          @xev: Both

        • fantastic, now I just need to convince Xiaomi to make a kettle in stainless steal and black to match my other kitchen appliances.

        • +2

@xev: Will just have to change all your appliances to cheap white plastic look ;)

        • @xev: Or keep an eye out for deals on a Xiaomi Kitchen

  • Code isn't working for me - can anyone confirm it works?

    • +1

      Just checked, is working

    • +1

      are you logged in?

      • Yep - incognito mode fixed it, thanks for confirming!

    • +1

      Working for me

  • +2

I want to buy more but they were just 7.99 they other day…

    • Same. For $2 I can wait.

  • -5

I have one - don’t bother, it’s quite useless since you can’t even schedule or program this with IFTTT.

    • Do you have the zigbee or non zigbee?

I haven't used IFTTT yet, but you can schedule and program with the Mi Home App

      • I have the Zigbee one and I can only do a Timer or Delay.
What I want to do is something like if the plug is on for more than 10 mins (just like the door sensosr) on every weekday from 8-9 then turn it off.

    • I have both the sonoff s20 and this. Whilst the Sonoff s20 works out of the box with google home and IFTT, its quite bulky and there is no power management. I am stocking up on a few xiaomis for when I transition to home assistant, then they will serve me real well due to the much smaller form factor.

    • +1

You can schedule in the mi home app or home assistant

      • Can you schedule them to turn on at a certain time everyday?

        • Yes.

        • Yes or triggered by events or actions as well

        • @asa79:
I can’t get them to trigger by an event, how do you do that? Do you use IFTTT or just the MI Home app?

        • @voldemort: I have only used the Mi Home app at moment, Will be looking at Home Assistant soon

        • @asa79: how do you use the mi Home app to trigger the plug bu events then?

        • @voldemort: Automation rules, like if switch is pressed or motion detected turn on plug etc

  • Is it the Zigbee or the wifi version? The title from Gearbest is misleading?

My guess is the Zigbee version considering the other options on the product page.

    • Zigbee

  • Got one of these. Power doesn't seem to turn off anymore.

    • Have you tried resetting it? I had one that stopped responding, but deleted it in MiHome and reinstalled it and no problems since.

      • The socket actually turns off and on. But the power supply is always on, regardless if the socket is off

        • Sounds like a problem with the mechanical relay that switches the power. You might have to try contacting the retailer. That said, I haven't had a lot of luck getting warranty support from the cheap Chinese retailers except if it's a DOA issue. Hopefully YMMV

    • Once you have too many rules, the individual don't work properly anymore. The solution seems to be to get a second gateway.

  • Expired!

  • Expired. What a pain. Been trying to watch these like a hawk!

  • Expired already… Boo!!!!!

  • Easy come, easy go… Marked as expired

Set IFTTT rules. If Xiaomi smart device deal is posted, activate the home alarm.

    • Spent an hour and a half tonight trying to work out how to get the lights to flash when someone triggers the door sensor I want to put on the front gate.

I succeeded then saw you can't put the sensors on metal. doh

      • +1

could you drill or glue a couple of tiny timber blocks on it?

        • +1

Yeah, I though of that, might try with some velcro first see if that works.

        • @xev:

I have the Xiaomi door sensor attached to my metal garage gate, works fine. Activates the Garage light (via the Zigabee socket), when the door is opened past 5pm.

      • +1

Hi. The smaller bit of the door sensor seems to have a magnet attachment. I attached it to the metallic door and sticky taped the larger bit to the other side of the wooden door. Works fine.

      • Did you set the yeelight on China server? I’m trying to do sth like this but the sensor doesn’t seem to work on my matel garage door as well :(

    • +2

Only reason I was asleep when this deal was posted is cos I have a newborn! Sleep when the baby sleeps…. and don’t set an IFTTT to wake the house cause of a xiaomi deal :P

  • This work with xiaomi remote?

  • +1

Can you use these with Alexa?
    i.e. Turn off Kitchen Light

  • +1

Dang you need to be awake at all hours to get xiaomi deals before they expire…

  • you go to sleep early and miss out on good deals….

    • +1

      you snooze you lose

  • New to all this but am curious do you just buy this wifi powersocket and you can accwss access it via your wifi router and mobile phone?? Anyone able to explain if we need this xiaomi gateway and router thing??

Be cool to connect one or two appliances to this socket or say your laptop and flicking the off switch at work if you forgot to turn off before leaving for work?

    • You need the Xiaomi Gateway

Then you can set it up to use with your mobile or a wireless switch or sensor.

      • So the gateway is an intermediary device between router and xiaomi products? Does the gateway also connect to xiaomi security video cameras and the like?

        • The gateway is an intermediary device between router and some Xiaomi products, other products work without it but they all get set up with the app.

e.g. door sensor needs gateway, camera doesn't, but if you want camera to start recording after door sensor is triggered you need the gateway and you set it up using the app

        • @xev:

Thanks. Is their an extensive catologue list of how all the products interact with or don't require a gateway? There's so many xiaomi products these days. I was curious how the 'security' kits compared to more expensive arlo and google nest variants…. so if you had the camera you wouldn't need the gateway per se… but to record after door sensors are triggered you would need the gateway? Likewise if you got a motion sensor activated camera for intruders (so not linked necessarily to a door sensor) would you therefore again need the gateway in order to record (assumedly into the cloud - not sure where their video cameras save evidence to).

Wondering if all these xiaomi devices are gimmick or actually practical for use? switching on lights would be cool but i assume you need to use their xiaomi lights, whereas i've paid to install quality led downlights…. so wouldn' rip them out to get wifi enabled lighting unfortunately (woulda been cool though). handy for holidays.

  • are there wifi points that don't need the gateway and connect directly to the app?
