    includes 20kg bags… very cheap!

    • I thought its 2 x 23kg

  • Ridiculous prices…

Almost feel like I'm ripping them off at these prices..

  • +20

Don't even know where that is, but at these prices, I don't even care…

  • +3

    Thanks op, but might want to check on the visa;

happy to be proven wrong but china doesn't have visa on arrival AFAIK (they have transit visas in select cities but won't apply here on a direct flight).

    • +21

      It's from their site.

      Haikou Exclusive Visa on Arrival

      • If Haikou is the first stop in China, travelers can apply for a personal visa of Visa on Arrival there without an invitation letter. Vaild passort, and a photo of 3.5cm×4.9cm will be needed for applying a visa which is the same as a visa applyed from China embassy in Australia.
      • Visa on Arrival can be processed directly at Immigration in Meilan Airport of Haikou, it usually takes 5 to 10mins to process. Immigration will approve a 30-day stay at maximum depends on travelers' application. Traveler whose nationality is Australia will be charged a Visa Fee for 168 CNY by cash, credit card or debit card.
      • After obtaining a Visa on Arrival in Haikou, travelers can visit other cities, then leave from any cities at randomly in mainland China. But travelers can not stay over the maximun stay period. For example, if an Australian traveler takes a flight from Sydney to Haikou with a valid passport but without a visa for entering China in advance, when she/he arrives at Meilan Airport, a privilege will be gived to process a Visa on Arrival for entering China legally. Then, this traveler can travel to Beijing, to Xi'an, then take a flight back to Sydney as long as the itinerary within 30days.
      • Oh i had no idea.

        CHeers guys

        • Ditto, I've been to China each year for the last 3 years, never heard of this! Nice!

      • Thanks for the info @neil.

      • +1

That's awesome. Buying the visa in Australia to visit China is a lot more expensive from memory, not to mention a pain to apply for.

    • +2

Several regions have VoA. Hainan Island is one. I've done it.

    • Has anyone done this recently? After a bit of investigation it seems that you need to be on a tour group to get this cheaper visa on arrival (VoA). I have even spoken to the Sydney Chinese consulate who confirmed the same. The only information contrary to this is on the hainan airlines website as Neil has pointed out. Is it possible they have accidentally omitted that you need to be on a tour group? Is there any information anywhere else to support the hainan airlines website?

there will be a surge in OZ tourists on these dates

    • could amost have an OZBargain meet up!

wow, nice. If every trip is this cheap I'll be holiday oversea every single month :D

Are flights getting crazy cheap these days? Out of interest I looked at a bus fare from Sydney to Brisbane return with Greyhound and it was actually more - $222 return!

    • Didn't know there were busses to Brisbane. Guess most people opt to fly

    • Be an Ozbargainer and just drive!
Done this before to secure a cheap flight from the Gold Coast, only cost a tank of petrol each way and with 6 of us was well worth it!

      • I remember that years ago people used to pay this much to travel interstate on a bus because flights were too expensive, now you can fly overseas for the same. But yes done sharing cars between lots of people too but even that is getting almost not worth it.

        • But yes done sharing cars between lots of people too but even that is getting almost not worth it

Is that because of the 10 hour drive, the cost or the fact that you are incredibly squashed for an extended period of time with limited access to facilities?

        • @pennypincher98: I guess travel time and cost combined. Also possibly safer to fly?

        • @leTintin: Well, in the safety aspect it seems that depends on when, where and who you fly with these days.. 2 tanks of petrol split between 6 people is a lot cheaper than a peak return flight.

  • Cheers. Any interesting stuff to do there or travel to Sanya?

    • +1

Sanya is more interesting, but there are several places on the east coast you can do a day trip to from Haikou. Oh and the high speed rail is good and affordable.

  • +19

    This is a good deal.
I don't know where this place is.
    But I'll go cos cheap.

Sorry thought it was haiku not Haikou

Hainan Airlines, recently ranked the 9th best airline in the world(worldairlineawards.com) is …

Slightly worrying that the list has Garuda Indonesia ranking 10th.
And Qantas, British Airways, Air New Zealand, Thai Airways, Japan Airlines must be below Garuda on that list!
    How about Malaysian Airlines?

    • Garuda have improved dramatically in recent times

      • +1

        Can concur

      • My point is it's a stretch to imagine that GA can be improved to the point of being viewed as better than our national carrier, or BA/NZ/TG/JL.

        • Have you flown recently?

        • @spy: Not GA.

        • @leon: I did (cattle class) and absolutely smashed Qatar Airways (on the same itenerary) in terms of customer service and general experience. Food was awesome too. Try them honestly.

    Ozbargin meetup in Hainan

    https://www.google.com.au/maps/place/Hainan,+China/@19.31530…

Hainan is near Northern Vietnamn and it's known for its tropical climate, beach resorts and forested, mountainous interior.

Site got the ozbargain hug of death…

    • Since when did having a dip in the ocean cost money? Beaches don't have entry fees do they?

      • LOL. you not leave in Sydney right? Beaches don't have entry fees, but they do have parking fees….

        • But that's parking fees.. not a dip in the ocean fee

If you lived down the road you would walk "for free"

        • -4

          @illumination: Whats your semantics fee?

        • @thedude23: I obviously get what you're implying..

        • Beaches across asia have actual beach entry fees… pretty sure that's where the joke is suppose to play in

      • -3

It costs money dipping from 33000 ft.

  • It's so far from the main cities though… How much more would it be if I want to go to Hong Kong?

    • By high-speed train
A new high-speed Eastern Ring railway was opened in January 2011, connecting the major towns on the east coast of Hainan. It takes 1.5–2 hours from Sanya to Haikou. The trains also serve Haikou's Airport. Haikou to Sanya costs around ¥90.

      • +1

        Haikou =/= Hong Kong.

      • Not HK yet…until they can fix (force to fix) the constitution problem.
        The Government is a joke…

      • ¥90

It's cheap but not that cheap. Probably was 90RMB.

  • Great price, pity theres nothing around Easter Holidays. Hainan are a VA partner too, so you should earn points and credits.

These full service Chinese airlines are the best thing that’s ever happened to me. Thanks for sharing.

  • How long do deals like these last? I want to do my research first.

    • Your guess is as good as anyone's.. but I would estimate 1-2 days at max by which time you will have barely any dates left to select.

    • +1

      Scott's Cheap Flights says:

We think these fares will last 1 - 2 days.

  • +2

    do they employ pilots?

i might fly just for the free airline meal

    • -1

$214 for "free airline meal"? Is that really a good idea?

      • nope but i wasn't quite serious

        • Fair enough! Yea I should've picked that up from the question you asked.

    • +1

They serve a certain chicken dish :)

  • ozbargain get together mar 5th - 11th

  • Hows the pollution there?

    • +2

Poor in Haikou, less so in Sanya but not as bad as other parts of China.

      • So I guess Sayna is the best province to travel to.

        • +1

Sanya is a city of HaiNan province, Haikou is the provincial capital of this province.

    • -2

      Aware of lung cancer !!!!

    • +1

it all depends on the time of year for these southern locations

cooler times of year the pollution can be bad.

HK is getting smashed with the pollution at the moment https://coconuts.co/hongkong/news/hong-kong-engulfed-smog-fe…

      • Most historic places are in the northern part of China anyway and they're polluted.

      • Another thing to watch out for is typhoon season later in the year.

  • Looks sold out. Only $500 flights left.

    • Hainan have one of the youngest fleets in the air, and they are the fourth largest airline in China, largest privately-run airline.

Just as safe as any other.

  • great deal with a great airline, have flown with this mob previously

Think of all the Hainan chicken you can eat.

    • +2

Seriously, if you had enough cheap Hainan chicken, you've broken even as opposed to eating it in Aus!

    • It's called Wen Chang Ji there and nowhere as good as the SEA or even local versions.
