Doesn't evap units just go all to hell when it's too humid or over about 35 degrees? I built a house in WA with evap ducted and it was almost always a waste of time.
Too humid? Yes.
Over 35? I had it running in 40C in Adelaide.
Will it work for everyone? Probably not.
we found that it only lowered the temp by a max of about 10 degrees. And it used a reasonable amount of water.
When we replaced it with with a refridgerative unit the performance was much better.
And your electricity bill was much higher.

Cheap mini-split is around $400 anyway, and installation should be the same or less than this, since it won't need a connection to mains water.
The evap unit is intended for something like a shed. Without good building insulation, a refrig unit can be very expensive to run, and the mini will not be enough.
Anyone with handyman skills can install these, but a split system needs specialised tools.
