Hey all,

Had to share this one, I’ve been hunting for a bargain on this after seeing it priced at $78 at Chefs Hat in Melbourne. Cheapest delivered in Oz right now is around $60ish. Amazon US have this out for just over $10 US + delivery!

With a good season this should last a few nuclear strikes!!

AUD price was using the US dollar and letting my bank do all the conversion works.

  • Cheers OP - picked one up …great buy!

  • +1

Doubles up as cosplay. Nice deal op

  • +5

How much for delivery to Pochinki Catholic Church, Pochinki, Erangel?

    • You should just need to pick it up off the ground.

  • Must refrain from spending more money…

  • +1

Buy it once, buy it for life!

Keep in mind you'll need to season it.

    • +1

      it comes preseasoned

    • "Cast iron comes seasoned and ready to use! Just give it a quick rinse and hand dry, and you’re ready to start cooking."
      More tips here

      • +1

Do you need to re-season after every use though?

        • +2

I always rinse it under warm water and scrape it with a Lodge Grill Pan Scraper after every use, then dry it with a cloth and after that I rub a 4-5 drops of flax seed oil(inside and outside the pan) and heat for a minute or so. I've been using it regularly(4-5 times/week even with acid foods) for more than a year, I have never seasoned it in the oven and the surface is so smooth I can easily cook eggs in it and they won't stick.

I had a $10 Amazon credit which I wasn't even aware of, so I picked this up for US$15.42. My US conversion fee will be waived as well so that should make this the bargain of the year for me (so far, haha)

    • How did you get $10 credit? Am keen to buy something else and would like to know.

      • I have absolutely no idea how I got I sorry. It showed as 'Courtosy Credit = $10' at checkout and on my final invoice.

  • fantastic deal thanks OP - quality bargain

  • Thanks OP ordered!

  • +1

    Out of stock.

    • As soon as I pressed checkout!

      • Same here… :(

        • I guess it's a sign I didn't need a second one haha. Still makes me sad :(

        • +1

          @stickyfingers:
          Hahaha, +1. :)

I have a vintage Lodge I bought restored at a market in the USA…didn’t really need this, but was too cheap to pass up! Was just combining shipping with some other items when it sold out! Oh well.

Great deal for those who grabbed one!

    • It's back in stock.

  • How does it compare to the one Aldi was selling? Worth the premium?

    • I don't know how much different there can be between cast iron pans. Maybe thicker. Maybe better iron (although I doubt it).

    • Better heat consistency/distribution.

  • Oos

  • +2

wtf, I just missed it? guess I shouldn't be reading the comments before buying it

    • same. I was too busy replying to above :\

      • -5

haha, damn whoever above mentioned "Anova", I was googling/youtubing about it, sounds like piece of crap of a gimmick anyway

        • Have one. It's good. Not the best-built product but sous-vide cooking is awesome

        • +2

One day you'll get to use one on a piece of salmon and realise it's the best thing you could ever do to it

        • +1

@stickyfingers: Its great. Opened up another world of possibilities. Overcooked delicate meats like chicken, or gamey birds are a thing of the past. Also made 'Onsen tamago' (Hot spring eggs) with it. Cant get that sort of precision with a gas stove.

    • Thanks, got this one since the other seems out of stock now (again)
Seems a bit rich to say this. but the 8 inch one seems a bit small…

  • Got it for $20 after my $10 credit applied. Thanks OP

    • How did you get $10 credit? Am keen to buy something else and would like to know.

  • Anyone using these on electric stoves?

  • Can someone please tell me if it's best to get a wok in cast iron material or another material? Need one for stir fry etc. Is there a brand you recommend? Tia :)

    • +4

      Carbon steel

    • +2

Probably wouldn't recommend a cast iron wok as the weight makes it difficult to handle with one hand.

      • Yes was worried abt this!

    • +6

Buy a carbon steel one from the dodgiest store in China Town you can.

      • Lol funny you say that…..that's what hubby said to do (minus the dodgiest part) 😂

        • +2

I bought mine from one in Fortitude Valley that had pigeons flying around in it haha

    • +1

Avoid aluminium like the plague. Avoid non-stick coatings, too - whole point of a wok is to get very hot, and non-stick coatings don't like that.

Cast iron is too heavy, so that leaves carbon steel. As others have noted, they're easiest to find in cheap Asian Supermarket type stores.

      • Always wondered why we have aluminum pans, I've used them only in hotel rooms with a kitchenettes… they look nice though

    • And you must season it to get it "black", not look for a black wok.

  • +5

makes u wonder isnt it…dumb aussie retail. always over pricing everything.

  • NNOOOOOOOOOOO!

    Dammit, snooze I lose.

  • Jumped on this last night,

    Thank you OP

  • So sad I missed this :( … The one day you don't look at OzBargin….

    • +1

I bought one of these last night, but if you look at the camel price history I think apart from a couple of Amazon price spikes it's been pretty close to this price for around a month - in Dec it even dropped to $10 USD before delivery so just set a camel price alert and you'll be notified…

      • Thank you :) I've never looked at camel before

        • +4

I think it just looks really cheap because of how badly we are getting ripped in Aus, I was shocked last night browsing through all the cast iron pans! so jealous

        • +2

It's a great tool if you're after something and you don't mind waiting a while - sometimes i just set and forget and then get a notification it's at my desired price and bang…it's all mine ;)

        • @ohhidayo:

          exactly ;)

        • @ohhidayo: Yes exactly!

  • +2

    anyone that missed out
victorias basement has a sale one
    got:
    - benzer cast iron 25cm for $25
    - benzer cast iron 16.5cm for $12
    - benzer carbon steel 30cm for 19

    delivery to QLD was $12.

    not bad!
they also have the cast iron lodge for $40 or so

  • Wish I could find the 17" one cheaply!

  • I bought a similar model from Kitchenware House 2 years, had issues of meat sticking onto the surface, otherwise no issues at all.

  • +2

Item is back in stock at the same price. Came down to 32 AUD delivered. Just ordered one

    • Awww yiss! Finally got mine now

      • I was also very happy. The first time it ran out of stock and I was looking for my credit card details =P

  • Back in stock?

  • +1

what is 26cm in inches … which one is it? oh americans why are you different from rest of the world.

    • 10.25"

    • In google:

      convert 26cm to inches

      • way too many letters

        26cm to in

  • Do we need to buy a handle cover? That's costly compare to the current cost of the pan

    • Use an oven mitt or tea towel. The only reason for the cover is due to the pan being a single piece of cast iron the handle heats up with the pan.

    • no.

    • I bought one from eBay for A$2~ for use on my Crofton Cast Iron. Works fine. Should be usable on this Lodge too.

  • Thanks OP!
I've been trying to find a reasonably priced cast iron pan for awhile now!

  • How do you deglaze a cast iron pan after you finish cooking a steak to make a gravy/sauce? I usually deglaze my stainless steel pans with some red wine when I've finished cooking to make a nice sauce but I've heard you can't do that with cast iron because you will ruin the non stick seasoning?

    • Go for some liquid stock instead. Basically anything that isn't acidic should be fine.
Alternatively, do a quick deglaze with stock then transfer to a small saucepan and add whatever you'd like.

  • Just bought one, thanks OP 😀

  • Cheers, just bought one!

  • +3

Do not need. Definitely purchased. Thank you!

  • Bought one. Thanks OP!

  • i have been eyeing the lodge cast iron grill pan for a while. I simply don't understand the aussie price. AUD 90 or 70 (on sale). Yes, amazon US shown a similar price tag as this one. I nearly ordered one from amazon US but heard about the launch of amazon australia. I held off. To my disappointment, amazon australia is still selling the lodge cast iron grill pan via marketplace. :( It looks like it is still cheapest to buy off the US amazon.

Back in stock and I guess I've joined the Cast Iron Skillet club.

  • Is the griddle worth adding to the order with this pan?
    https://www.amazon.com/Lodge-L9OG3-Griddle-Pre-Seasoned-10-5…

    • +1

I guess if you want the larger cooking surface (the pans are measured by the diameter at the top, not the bottom cooking surface) without the depth, especially for cooking flat stuff like tortillas, then might be worth grabbing.

  • Just bought 3.

Accidently clicked on Purchase with AUD when I was trying to change it to USD. Amazon doesn't really get you to review/confirm the order before processing.

It will also be sent to my PO Address rather than business address lol.. It's going to be a struggle to walk 500m with 3 pans.

Anyway I didn't want to risk cancelling the order and then re-ordering it because of the 3 item limit. 3 for $85 is a bargain!

    • +2

You must have got the last 3 - sold out

      • Sorry if you wanted one.

Lucky I didn't cancel the order.

I think I paid $60 for one locally (on sale!).

I will keep one and give 2 as gifts.

      • +1

"Accidentally clicked", did you James Broden? :P

  • +2

I just ordered one! Thanks OP!

shipping cost more than the pan itself haha! I wish I was in the US =p

    • How do you work out the shippping cost ? the website is really confuse for international shipping ..

      • Unfortunately it doesn’t tell you the shipping cost till the last page so you will need to enter your credit card or PayPal details and get all the way to the last page before it shows the shipping cost

        • Ah got ya thank you for that. I was trying to get a baby car seat, then another ozbargainer pointed out that USA standard # AU standard …

  • sold out it seems :'(
