I have had this phone for just over a year and it does the job. I find it needs a restart from time to time as all the sound drops out.

    • Can I ask if the pro mode allows you to take in raw DNG format?

      • +1

Sorry but i have no idea

        • No problem. Thanks for the reply :)

Can it be unlocked? Hubby needs a new cheapo work phone

    • +6

Yes, eBay offers codes for $2-$3

    • +2

You may not need to unlock it depending on the sim card your hubby uses and if it that carrier utilises the Optus network?

  • It looks like the processor is worse than what you got in budget phones from a few years ago like the Huawai Y550 that used a snapdragon 410. It makes me wonder how bad this phone would run Android. For $49 I doubt you could do much better. I'm sure it's better in other aspects than older budget phones, I would expect the screen to be a lot better. Water, dust and scratch resistance. WOW!

    • +1

And fingerprint security, but don’t be fooled by dual camera - just means front and back

  • +1

Great burner phone, picked up 10

    • +8

I didn't know you changed your username Broden?

  • Will it work on the Telstra network once unlocked?

    • Yes, and it has band 28, which is a bonus.

    • As below — you’ll be able to use Telstra 4G, but if you stray outside 4G coverage, you won’t have any reception.

To benefit from Telstra 3G coverage, the handset needs to support 3G 850 MHz, which it appears this handset does not.

      • Better also check that this phone supports VoLTE otherwise it won’t be able to make voice calls in areas of 4G only coverage.

  • -1

NO, only with Optus, even unlocked, No Vodafone and Telstra.

    • Are you sure !? If the phone is “unlocked” you should be able to use on any network …. or is this a wave bands restriction thing ?

      • +3

It will be fine on Optus/Vodafone but might be a problem on Telstra because it's missing 3G 850 so voice calls may struggle outside the CBD.

(assuming the specs provided by the OP are correct)

  • damn, I just bought alcatel u5 2 weeks ago from Woolworths

  • This doesn't have a bonus $50 eftpos card with recharge by any chance does it? I'm way too hopeful ;)

    E3372 USB modem for $40

Usual retail price is $39, often goes on special for ~$19.

    • +1

Just the phone … not open it yet to confirm, but was told that only a “blank” sim is included

  • +2

Alcatel U5 can use all networks Optus, Vodafone and Telstra. Because it has 850, 700, 900 cover all 3G and 4G for all 3 network providers.

  • +1

Alcatel U5 can be unlocked at $1 , then use for all network in Oz.

  • +2

    Is it Pokemon-Goable?

    • And Hearthstone-able?

  • +1

I have one of these from last year. It works ok as a basic phone but is limited by 1gb memory and 8gb storage if you want to add a few apps.

  • +2

God, they think a phone with 1gb of RAM is worth 150 in 2018? Yeah, right.

    • Just like many other things they sell. I guess they must be right otherwise they would either lower the price or discontinue selling them.

      • +1

You mean like, what they're doing right now?

        • -1

What they've been doing since forever. Apart from an odd bargain like with the hub usb stick from Woolworths you can/could find things were costing pretty penny there, where somewhere else would cost you 3rd or less. Seems they know the strategy works, kind of like what I see people having Telstra for ages and when told there are better deals around, they just can't be bothered. And that is not to say they are well off so they can afford to pay a lot without a thought in the world. Their answer is usually, I've been with them for so long, and they are not grandpas and grandmas either.

Is there a $50 phone with 2gb of RAM? 1GB isn't going to cut it for my 2 year old's usage.

    • +1

I laugh, but my 2 year old has a 10 buck tablet from Woolies with 1gb and it crashes when running the ABC Kids app a fair bit.

      • +1

Yeah, I don't want mine to drop my Mate 10 Pro, but I can't inflict 1GB on him.

        • +1

Actually, I'm confusing tablets, the one she usually uses has half a gig on there, that's the one that crashes. Though she's recently been using my old Nexus 5 more than anything. But anywhore, here

This is the Bluboo Maya 3G. For just under 90 bucks delivered, you get a 5.5 inch Android phone with 2gb of RAM and a 1.3ghz quad core processor, with 16gb of storage and a Micro SD card slot. The missus was using this for a couple weeks between phones mid last year and it seemed pretty cool for the price, mind you we paid a whole ten bucks more back then (!!!). Decent speakers, big enough screen for a kiddo's small eyes, strong WiFi connection, decent little toy for the price.

          Things to consider.
. It tried to install bloatware here and there, but I'm sure you can put a stop to it.
. It's only got 3G and WiFi, not sure if that will be a problem for you though.
. The screen is 720p, you will notice it, but it's by no means bad, especially for a kid's toy.
. The thing's screen got (profanity) after one drop and that's why the missus didn't hold onto it longer.

Other than those few points though, it's a pretty decent phone for the price really.

        • @TheDukeOfNukem:

          But anywhore

          teehee ^^

    • +5

Check out this gem at the bottom of that page:
WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM KAREN

I checked out two Woolies stores in the Sydney Hills district and neither received any Blitz stock. They did however have the ZIP.

    • Was a better deal a year ago for $29. Hyper inflation.

    • Woolie offer the E3372 modem with the zip fir $40!!

  • +2

I'm using an xperia sp. Zte Zip by comparison is blazingly fast. Unsure how the blitz compares. Woolies call centre staff can locate stock for you. Don't select mobile or online as you will get transferred twice or even three times…

  • +2

I just got a Blitz and am really happy with it so far. The Vermont (VIC) Woolies still had a few listed on their stock inventory but you'd best check with them first since it took ages to find the one I got.

  • As my ‘other” mobile.
One question - are you a secret agent, drug dealer or do you have 2 wives/families?

    • +1

All the above. Just like fb and other social media stuff, always have a second option for freebies and people you not too close with. I used mine to register for stuff and people who ask you to ring them so that you can exchange numbers.

  • Does this model support using SD card to extend internal memory? I understand that some Android 6.0 phones have this capability.

    • Yes, upto 32gb according to the spec.
