Ughh to buy or not to buy?

    • +13

an extra 50% discount on tracking devices if you are Military and work on a 'secret' base ;)

  • great deal on the Fenix 3. Great watch too

  • Are these any good?

Quick research says these are out for 1.5 yrs which is pretty old in the tech world….

    New model arriving?

    • +1

The Fenix 5 replaces the Fenix 3 and the Vivo active 3 replaces the Vivo active which have both been released.

      • +1

        OMG there's a Fenix 5….??

Should have done my research better….I just bought the Titanium version…:(

        • +3

Don't regret. Its one of the best. Not much of a difference between a fenix 5 and a fenix 3 unless you are a professional athlete. By the way, there was no fenix 4. So its just one generation older than the fenix 5.

        • @Shekhars: there is how ever a fenix 3 hr

        • @Shekhars:

          Already cancelled.

No HR monitor and touchscreen, I rather pay $49 for a gear fit 2.

      • Vivoactive would be 2 versions old, there is a Vivoactive HR which is a slimmer design than the vivoactive, the 3 is a completely different look again.

        • vivoactive HR is much thicker (protrudes from your wrist more) than vivoactive, due to the HR sensor bulge underneath. when looking at the screen it is narrower and taller though, is that what you mean? they rotated the display 90 degrees to do this.
Edit: nevermind, looks like it is sold out now, link no longer works.

The Garmin 645 is out any day now.
Been waiting for a Garmin that includes music so I can run it with my Wireless headphones but it’ll be $599 I think. Guess you pay for it

  • Thanks got a Fenix 3 sapphire.

  • Almost bought the Garmin Fenix 3 Sapphire…. pulled up from the impulse buy dive. The reviews seems to say that it is a great fitness/activity tracker with about a 2 week battery life… without a touch screen and being able to read my notifications is what stopped me. I'll stick with my fitbit alta and a proper automatic watch for now.

      • I know right. This touch-screen stuff is just a fad, it'll blow over very soon….

        • +3

          Yes Mr Nokia

      • +1

It's a 3 year old model. They're clearing stock. Touchscreen came in with the replacement, the Fenix 5 (the 4 never happened) early in 2017.

        • -1

Yes, not blaming anyone but myself…

I was just stunned that a digital smartwatch has no touchscreen as I expect ANY smartphone comes with one.

        • @mg_k: Were you able to cancel? I really wanted it

        • -1

          @ferds:

          Yes….I've sent them a cancellation request…sorry.

        • @mg_k: Yeah, a curious omission (Garmin have had the tech on their running watches since 2011) but one I suspect was driven by the watch being aimed at the high end Suunto watches which were very late to the touchscreen party.

        • @mg_k: Blackberry and Nokia Communicator are smartphones too.

      • +6

all opinion of course but touchscreen inclusion marks the end of real utility in these devices by stopping them being complementary to smart phones and making them more akin to a mini phone.
without a touchscreen the watch will work for you in freezing cold weather with gloves on, when you have been swimming or in the shower (etc) and if you are in a profession where you get oil or cleaning chemicals etc on your hands.
I hope you find a nice watch that does all you want but seeing the gradual inclusion of touchscreens in pretty much all brands now is a nightmare to me along with high lumen rated actively lit screens.
as potentially gimmicky/potentially useful additions go I do like a microphone in my watch so besides predefined message replies I can do a quick specific sentence but I am happy to forgo onscreen text input if it means I can always rely on the input methods and also can use muscle memory to do quick commands in apps without even looking at the watch screen … I do this at the moment with my watch to set timers, initiate a voice text, change the smart lights in my home etc.

        cheers :)

These aren't smartwatches, they are designed for athletes and adventurers. They intentionally don't have touchscreens so can be used for swimming, skiing etc. + battery life + don't get accidentally knocked during activities

        • -2

Well the Fenix 3 Sapphire Titanium doesn't look like a sporty active watch to me.

I certainly don't want to wear such a watch when I go swimming.

  • +1

Shame the Fenix 3 doesn't have a heart rate monitor

  • Despite a Fenix 5 that Fenix 3 Titanium is crazy cheap

    • +1

yea, the Fenix 3 Sapphire and Titanium bands at this price is definitely worth the trigger if looking for something durable with tracking. Not too sure about the warranty though but it should be included since its an Australian stock.

  • No wrist based HRM on this one, so just be aware of that. That said, if you want a well supported titanium smartwatch with some really cool active features (including some good swimming stuff) from a solid manufacturer with Australian retailer support - yeah, this is a hell of a price…

    Review here: https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2015/03/garmin-fenix3-detailed-r…

    • Here's the thing - I really like the look of the watch with the titanium band….it has this classy formal looks….

But it's meant to be an active sport watch? What??!?!

I most certainly don't want to be wearing such a watch when I am running or pumping irons at the gym.

It seems to have an identity crisis, and I just saw a review that you need to use screwdrivers to unscrew when changing bands?

      Just no……

      • I've seen these on the wrists of quite a few people at work whose biggest effort for the week would be the couch-beer fridge repeat session on Saturday night. I always viewed these as smartwatches with traithlon watch features.

I use a Vivosmart HR+ and the original slimline Vivoactive so I'm more on the minimalism side of the sport watch debate. That said, if this had a HR strap as part of the kit I'd be tempted.

      • I believe they all come with extra black rubber band.

  • As usual, long time lurker and first post

    As usual, we know

  • any samsung s3 deal?

Almost bought 225.. Remembered the current is 235.

    • +5

      the current isnt $103.95

  • +1

Titanium is 404ing - out of stock now?

    • +2

Just refreshed the page and stock level is showing as GONE.

  • +1

Dang that's an awesome price on the Garmin products!!! Just picked up a fr 225

  • +1

Thanks just bought a 225 to replace my vivoactive for runs!
Would have jumped on the fenix if it was the HR and i didnt have an Apple watch too :P

  • +2

Missed out on the Fenix 3 Titanium because I spent too long researching it.
    :/

    • There's still 2 other Fenix 3 watches. One has a leather strap https://www.jbhifi.com.au/ipods-docks-fitness/garmin/garmin-…

      • Yeah. I'd go for it but no sapphire glass is a big difference for me.

        • I noticed they changed the description on the leather one above ^ (apparently it's sapphire as well). Could be a mistake?

        • +1

@ferds: Hey, thanks! A quick Google indicates that the leather has sapphire glass. Pity to miss out on Titanium, but the black suits a fitness watch more anyway.

        • @t3chshopper: Ahh I did the opposite, rushed and got the silver one with red band and find out later that the leather one has a sapphire glass.

    • +1

Same with me. Damn my need to find out more info!

  • Got the leather one with gift cards which I didn't know what to spend it on…

  • Fenix 3 Sapphire Titanium sold out quick damn! in just over 2 hours since the post

  • Bought both Fenix 3 Sapphire Titanium and Gear Fit 2…

    • Ha. I missed out on the Titanium but scored the Gear fit 2 and leather Fenix 3. Fitness watch face-off time!

      • +1

        Well done. Mate!

  • 225 sold out

  • Phew, kinda glad the fenix 3 sold out before i hit pay. I've got more pressing things to replace, like a 3-4 y.o phone that only last 3/5 of the day before dying out

    • Nexus 6P?

      • It's a galaxy note 4. I've tried buying a few cheap batteries off ebay, but they all had odd behaviors. They were all probably fake, one started to bloat up… I honestly thought it was gunna blow up. So i probably won't be taking any risks buying cheap batteries anymore.

Ones from reputable sources like mobilcity costs about $50-60. Not sure if im willing to fork out that much, im kinda due for an upgrade anyway.

  • !@#$, the Sapphire looks to be a great deal

    They cost $649 on catch.com.au

    https://www.catch.com.au/product/garmin-fenix-3-titanium-mul…

  • Vivoactive @ $103 is SOLD OUT now

  • Thanks Op. I got the Fenix 3 Silver, great price to replace my Fenix 2 and Forerunner 15.

  • +1

Got mine today. Appears to be open box… Anyone else the same?

    • Which Spec did you order ?

      • Fair question! I ordered Fenix 3 with leather strap

        • I got the leather too, and thought it was open box as well.

I am thinking, they are just old stock which were lying around for a while.

Well everything is still there and works, and at this price I won't complain too much… not worth returning it as it will be my loss to miss out on the bargain.

        • I got my Titanium strap variant and it was sealed.

        • Double Up

    • Really, that quick? I haven't gotten any emails from JB saying it's sent or anything.

    • Got my fenix yesterday, looks like it's faulty, it doesn't connect to Garmin Express via USB. Anyone with the same problem?

      • I've already returned mine. Took an hour to connect to phone via bluetooth, then dropped out every five minutes or so. When it was connected, it wouldn't show any alerts. My 5 year old clunky Pebble can do that stuff in its sleep. So disappointed.

  • Mine came by toll today.
    Got the 225.
    Still trying to charge it.

  • Received my Fenix 3 Sapphire Titanium. Its new. A little disappointed with the functionality. It doesn't have HR which I knew but it doesn't track sleep either.. It is a BIG watch.

    • It’s a bloody huge watch, looks silly on small wrists haha

  • Mine was also opened up. No idea if it was store opened and checked/used or second hand. Little bit disappointed.
