The price is just on the $1000 mark, so BHP calculates no import tax.
I have not much experience in import tax. If BHP says no tax needed to be paid, it should mean so, is it not?

This is an absolute gorgeous laptop that rival XPS 15. In fact it is lighter than XPS 15 (2kg).
Amazon claiming this to be 1.6kg (3.6lbs). However this particular model could be closer to 1.7kg.
If you remove the 2.5" 1 TB hard drive, you will shave around 150gms.

Please note that Amazon has similar model at the same price, but it has no GPU. Also Amazon calculator somehow includes import tax.

I think this is a very good laptop at very good deal, that better the popular Lenovo e580 or even e480, and the recently published Xiaomi Notebook Pro i5.

Harvey Norman is selling the old gen for $1800: https://www.harveynorman.com.au/asus-vivobook-s15-s510uq-15-…

Asus International Warranty can be found here (item 7):
https://www.asus.com/au/support/article/599/

I couldn't find review for the exact model, these are reviews for older gen.
They mostly give this 4/5 mainly due to the price that is half of its rivals.
Some of the downsides are flex keyboard, and 2x USB 2.0 ports, no touchscreen and SATA SSD.

      Done, thanks for the tip

  • Does anyone know if the warranty works internationally?

    Edit: Found the answer.

    • What’s the answer?

      • I added in the description above.
Basically if the same model available here, then they will fix it for you.
If not then they will fix it subject to if the parts are available here.

Currently the model is available, but on the older i7 Gen.
The newer gen maybe released later, maybe not.

  • I'm really tempted on this as I'm looking for a laptop for my father. Can anyone confirm about the tax as $800 USD would put this above the $1000AUD mark for tax

    • I'm tempted too.
I'm almost 100% sure there is no extra tax, because BHP has the option to prepay your import tax, and it shows $0.
Not sure what would happen if BHP got that wrong…

    • If you try to make the total slightly over $1000 AUD, it will show sales tax.
With only this item it currently only shows $0.

For example if you add this $12, it will show total sales tax of $180.

Looks good. Asus make pretty decent laptops in my experience, and smarter design with heat. They usually cheap or on the body though, however this may be an exception as it doesn't use their typical plastic. Hopefully they've used better hinges than the majority of their past laptops - get flimsy quick, and prone to way snapping if you knock it wrong, it have children.

940mx is it's biggest letdown when compared to a couple others at this price point.
Between this and my favorite $1000 machine - being the xiaomi - the deciding factor here would be whether or not you want to play games, with the xiaomi having a decent advantage with the mx150.

For those who buy this - I highly recommend you reinstall stock Windows before using this. Asus are one of the worst offenders for absolute pointless bloat software.
Other than software, I recommend this.

      Thanks Salmando,

Good point on Xiaomi better GPU.

The body is mainly plastic though, with only the lid is metal.

      • Was just making some edits before you rudely interrupted 😉.

Hmm plastic body. Most of the Asus laptops I've used in the past have very weak plastic holding the charge port in place, and an accidental push can force the port inside. Also had issues with them having no support over empty HDD bays that sink from people resting palms on the body. Doubt that is a thing with this model though.

I will recommend this, though not if children are involved.

    • Yeah I do not understand putting in an 8th gen CPU and a 940mx GPU? The GPU is freaking ancient… It's not efficient or powerful.

  • Price listed as 849US for me. Also in checkout apparently shipping is 38.13 and duties and tax is 191.42 bringing the total to 1,078.60 USD…
