Funny. Not sure if this is a serious bargain.

    • Just made it even better :)

      • +2

Price now comes up as $146.46 when selecting AUD

        • +1

          You deserve 50 eneloops.

        • @BrodenIt: Great! I've never had an eneloop before.

        • @PJC:
It's just like an enema, but less uncomfortable.

        • @RoughMetaphors: Does it go round and round?

        • @PJC: In and out.

  • +1

this looks like a close clone of the infamous Le Eco S3 X626 except that it has SD and 3.5mm but it has worse camera.

  • +6

    Ermahgerd it has B28!

    • +5

I've just reported it to the police. Thanks

    • +1

taiwan and some europeans use band 28, this phone is for global market not chinese domestic.

    • People are going to have to find something else to moan about now.

  • Haha 2+ just for the description BrodenIt.

    • -1

I just need you to replace a couple mods.

    • +2

      Reported, invalid upvote.

  • +5

Battery & overheating issues I would avoid. Great specs for price bang for buck for sure.

    • +1

      Battery & overheating issues

      As owner of eneloops, I'm….

    • it’s decacore … so up to 10 cores and clock is running at 2.3 ghz …… so heat will depend on how many of the cores you are using and if it’s running at full clock. and if you need to be running all the cores you don’t care about heat because you would have specific needs and snapdragon doesn’t have 10 cores.

i used to have mediatek in a moto …. ran fine never any heat issues but then i also didn’t game on it or have lots of background apps using up the battery.

      • also has 7.1.1 offical ota update

android 8 need to root and load customer rom.

        it’s a lot of phone for $150 ……

        • I tried looking for custom roms but couldn't find anything. Do you have any links?

        • +1

          http://guideroot.net/sharp-z2-download-firmware-android-8-0-…

not sure why people load customer ROMs unless official updates have gone end of life and you want latest OS … ooops did that with the Samsung S4 when I couldn't afford beer and so had spare time, reflashed with Nexus firmware :-)

        • +1

          @AngryAlfred:
Its an MTK chip, Custom ROMs will be restricted to rebuilds of the stock ROM only.
Highly unlikely that the device will see Android 8 ever.

        • +1

@garage sale: still running lineage 14.1 on my Samsung s4 and for the most part it runs well just struggles with a few apps in particular pdf files for some reason.

        • +3

@garage sale: The "Download Android 8.0" link on that web page goes to nowhere. Actually none of the download link works on that page. As scubacoles has said — it's a mediatek chip and unlikely to have custom ROM based on AOSP.

        • S4 they sold a lot of phones off so had great installed base, larger than Pixel 2 I'd say, it's why Samsung S5 still sells for $300 ….. S4 was great phone, just I wanted bigger screen…. S6 and S7 will also have a good life span.

      • GSMArena comments say auto shutdown when too hot even at 30% or even 70%

I really need to add that to my description. Thanks for it.

  • +2

    better than xiaomi ?

    • +7

Comes with free pic of eneloops so yes.

      • What is this eneloop joke about?

        • Yes, inquiring minds would like to know

        • eneloops batteries are like Xiaomi on ozbargain, there's a weird obsession that people joke about here, but OP has taken it to a whole new level

    • +2

depends which model xiaomi but for the price xiaomi has nothing under $400 that even comes close …..
      it’s 1080p screen , band 28 and official android 7.1.1 OTA update …..

      • +1

Xiaomi note 3 Kate was comparable for $180 a couple years ago

      • Leagoo s8 pro seems to a mid-tier budget option if particular about band 28..no idea about the brand though

  • +3

Does this have a notification led?

    • +2

      Yes

    • +4

That would make using it as comfortable as wearing gloves, wouldn't you say?

  • +4

I'm going to be that person keep asking "does this have an NFC?"

    • +1

      No NFC unfortunately.

    • +1

      NFI

  • Dual-SIM standby (microsim) ?

    • +1

Yes I think it is 4G/3G dual standby.

  • +1

Thanks OP. Apparently this phone also supports dual 4g/3g according to this https://www.sogi.com.tw/articles/sharp_z2/6247836.

  • +6

Reported to the mods for being too funny.

  • +2

I'd stay away from this phone…

    • +2

But the specs point to such good value for money. Shame.

      • +5

        Overheating issues a galore
        Parts impossible to find
Garbage software and minimal forum support
Spend a lil more and get a Xiaomi

        • +1

          Thanks for the warning.

        • +8

they complain of heat when gaming …. if you are running 10 cores anything will get hot … they complain of parts …. he dropped it and cracked screen , who will repair screen on $200 phone

          etc, etc ,

forum support there’s is android 8 custoerm rom if not happy with offical 7.1.1

which xiaomi gives you 10 cores, 1080p and band 28 and how much does it cost ?

          .

        • @garage sale:

          That's the thing.

It reminds me of the JVC 4K TV out there for cheap.

It seems like you are getting a cheap phone will all the gimmicks however there are reliability issues, some bands work/don't work and you have to have a PhD in playing around custom ROMs.

Don't boast 10 Cores/4GB RAM gimmicks and then it sh*ts itself when gaming, overheating etc. No point having it then.

          Yep. It is $149 cheap.
Just add more cash and get a real phone.

OK .. start flooding me with the negs :-)

        • +4

the bands work, the problem is no 850mhz for voda, but it does have band 28 for optus and telstra.

A lot of the issues people complain about and are perpetuated by a very small number of users who don't know how to use their devices properly …. people complain about Pixel, a few complaints out of 1,000,000 sold by Google. Only real issue was Samsumg with exploding batteries, hence recall.

Running 10 cores at the same time will at full clock will drain battery, the idea is more cores makes switching between apps smoother, if you want to allocate 10 cores to a racing game fine if you know what that impact is. I don't play racing games or run lots of apps as I like to extend battery life.

Android 7.1.1 as an official over the air update is not bad, I personally gave up custom roms long ago and just use OTA, outlived that hobby as have better things to do.

If you want custom they have android 8 …… very few real phone users would bother except the people that know what they are doing.

Get a real phone …. I use a V20 ($369) and have an Axon 7 (got for $299 now $350) ….. but for under say $250 nothing comes close to this sharp and at least ticks the same boxes as a baseline.

        • +2

And accessories are expensive and the range is small.
BTw this phone is made by Foxconn not Sharp. Foxconn of Taiwan bought out the Sharp naming rights for mobile phones. Explains why it has Band 28 as it's used in Taiwan.

        • +2

yep, Foxconn making their own phones makes sense, they assemble phones for apple already, not sure which others phones come off their lines.

      • +1

The specs point to an MTK chip, as far as I am concerned that puts it at the bottom of the list.
Not because MTK parts perform poorly, but because it invariably means the Software it comes with is the only software you'll ever see. Maybe with a few minor bug fixes in the first few months.

    • GSM Arena user reviews? Seriously?

People who comment there make Yahoo Answers posters look intellectual.

      • yep, same people that want free postage on gearbest / aliexpress / banggood / and then complain it takes 4 weeks to arrive …. as it comes via consolidated mail on a ship, hence how do you think they manage cheaper postage than a letter in Australia ??????

2 things that should require a test to be allows to buy ….
1- lycra … you're too fat to make it look good.
2- tech, if you can't read chinhlese instructions or know what RTFM stands for
        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RTFM

      • Find me others based of user experiences then…

  • +8

    No B5 for Vodafone 850mHz 4G band.

    • +2

that could be trickey for voda users as it’s their low frequency band like band 28 for optus and telstra.

  • If it's got proper OTA unlike my old eneloop did it would be a good phone for the money, oh and the UN deleteable malware was a great bonus too

    • ota to android 7.1.1
android 8 if you root phone and load custom rom if that way inclined.

      • ttp://guideroot.net/sharp-z2-download-firmware-android-8-0-o-nougat-7/

  • +2

tempted to pick one of these up just to have a play. the Helio X20 processor is a solid performer, 4gb RAM is not to be sneezed at, and USB type C and fingerprint reader are total bonuses at this price point.

plus it has the absolutely essential band 28. great find!

    • +2

I'm getting one as a spare phone … my moto had mediatek X20 was great phone and never missed a beat until it fell in bucket of water overnight….. USB C fingerprint reader and official android 7.1.1, it's what my V20 is on with official firmware 7.1.1 …… if I can get the apps off my sons' Xiaomi with all his game scores, the Xiaomi Redmi note 4 is in the bin or ebay and this will be his new phone.

      • my difficulty is that ive currently got two LG G4s and a Sony Xperia Z5 Premium sitting on my bedside table as 'spare' phones…can't really justify piling up more of them at the moment :p

        • +1

You definitely need help, you mustbbe the onlybpersom whos phones have such a short life that out of two g4s you havent had a bootloop

      • besides the larger amount of options - Pros and Cons of this VS a snapdrgon820 ?

  • This thread has me confused!

Can anyone comment on why I shouldn't grab this as a cheapie - i'm with Optus in Sydney

    Thanks

Our 4G Plus network uses multiple frequencies (LTE 700 / 1800 / 2100 / 2300 / 2600 MHz) to provide coverage and capacity. 4G coverage availability will vary depending on your device and location.

    4G PLUS NETWORK FREQUENCY LOCATIONS
FD-LTE 700: We're using 700MHz to expand our network nationally, including capital cities and major regional and holiday destinations – plus 700MHz provides a better data experience indoors as low-band frequencies like 700 MHz penetrate further into buildings.
FD-LTE 1800: 4G in big cities such as Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth, plus a number of smaller cities and metropolitan locations.
FD-LTE 2100: 4G in select locations only, such as Cairns, Darwin, Hobart and Sunshine Coast.
TD-LTE 2300: 4G in big cities such as Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Canberra, plus selected metropolitan locations.
FD-LTE 2600: 4G in selected regional centres and holiday towns, and busy areas in major cities

  • I want to buy this but in reading the comments/feedback from previous users has me scared. Whilst it's cheap, I don't want to buy a brick either.

  • I want to trade my Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X for two then sell the other.

Don't need to spend so much on a phone these days especially with the very fast turn around times on specs and etc.

My top tier tablet is already starting to feel aged.

Need more cpu power and ram.

  • Some seriously great specs for this price. Looks like a great build quality also.

  • Can I ask a sillyish question.

If you were to compare the specs or overall general performance of this phone to the majoy manufacturers, which phone / generation would it be roughly equivalent to? i.e Samsung Galaxy 4, 5, 6?

And on these cheaper phones, are build quality pretty good? I see that battery issues is a concern for some of these cheap phones, but even the comments about that seems to have quietened.

I use a Sony Xperia, the first one, which does everything I need but the battery is just starting to fail I think. I definitely won't be buying a high end phone and i'd prefer to avoid spending $400 on a mid level phone if it's also largely pointless. But I would want it to work, and ideally feel (quality of build) at least as good as a Sony Xperia or similar.

    • +3

it's in the Samsung 6,7 area, it's a 2017 model phone, good processor with lots of RAM and 32GB ROM, 1080p screen ….
no NFC but I don't use credit card anyway for payments as ALL places accept it, not all do NFC.
I don't do $400 phones either, wait a year and spend the savings on other stuff … LG ands moto are aggressive on 12month old pricing.

      • Thanks for that.

Wow, Samsung 6 or 7 ought to be way better than my Sony Xperia. I've increasingly been using my phone for LESS. I have fewer apps, can't be bothered using it for business purposes or anything complicated. I use it mainly as a phone and a web browser before I sleep. Very little more than that. I paid $350 for my phone and I would pay similar if it was necessary to to get a "solid" phone, but seemingly these cheap ones are no longer flawed at all. It's good to know that I can buy one that will be significantly better than my current one at a highly justifiable price.

What do you mean by "LG ands moto are aggressive on 12month old pricing" - that their price drops significantly once their models are 12 months old?

        • +1

typical cycles of new model releases in android is every 12 months, and that also means new CPUs.
When a new model comes out, the price on the old model falls dramatically as the new one fills that price bracket, so flagship phones from LG have been selling for 1/2 the price of their original price after 12 months. V20's dropped down to $400 just before V30 came out at $900.

        • @garage sale: Thanks for that

I didn't realise LG was continuing to pump out high end phones - I'll keep an eye out for some older models

        • +1

          @davedrastic:

But with all the usual problems Such as Bootloops and Over heating etc ?

      • no NFC but I don't use credit card anyway for payments as ALL places accept it, not all do NFC.

You mhst be going to shops with one of the old imprint machines. I lost my wallet for over a month and exclusively used nfc for everything and not one shop declined me

      • +1

I'm starting to reconsider this phone now.

  • Seems it may have an IR Blaster as well from what I've read in a few reviews but no mention of this in specs.

  • Does anyone know what the warranty is and how its handled through them?

  • Thanks for that, it’s strange that LightinTheBox don’t list warranty info at all.

    • all phones sold on LITB = only 3 months warranty.

  • Does a phone with band 1/3/7/20 work 4G network in AU?

  • +1

Must resist, keep telling myself I don't need it. The OzBargain curse ! :)

  • +2

Today I checked and it was 142 left. Just checked from my phone and says 8 sold, 192 left

    • It got extended for a couple more days.
