Full credit goes to GTR4N and many thanks to WatchNerd for reminding me.

It's been 2 years since this was posted so I thought a recap would be nice.

What's a LSD battery?

Low self-discharge
The low self-discharge nickel–metal hydride battery (LSD NiMH) has a significantly lower rate of self-discharge. The innovation was introduced in 2005 by Sanyo, under their Eneloop brand.[27] By using an improved electrode separator and improved positive electrode, manufacturers claim the cells retain 70% to 85% of their capacity when stored one year at 20 °C (68 °F), compared to about half for normal NiMH batteries. They are otherwise similar to other NiMH batteries, and can be charged in the typical chargers. These cells are marketed as "hybrid", "ready-to-use" or "pre-charged" rechargeables. Retention of charge depends in large part on the battery's impedance or internal resistance (the lower the better), and on its physical size and charge capacity.

These are made in China

I thought this was the normal price?

    • This is the normal price.

    • These aren't made in Japan like the LADDA and Enloop batteries from the looks of it. Because OP said they were made in China.

      • Not all Eneloops are made in Japan

I bought 2500mah ones a few weeks ago, now I notice the same store stocking 2400mah ones. Now you're saying theres 2300mah ones too?

    • Are yours all Aldi ones? The initial activenergy rechargeables weren't LSD and were discontinued quite a few years ago.

I thought all of the aldi LSD are the same. Any chance that you could post a photo of the ones that you have so we can work out if there's been different Aldi LSD versions that we (I?) haven't noticed? If there have been different versions I'm wondering about any differences other than capacity.

Thanks broden for your post on OzRRP…

    • BURN!

I feel all my Xiaomi products with their rechargable lithiums is reducing my need for batteries.
My eneloops are more just sparkly tubes now.

  • All that's needed now is Hobby King to have another sale on AA's (AAA's still on sale)

  • I pick up a pack of these every few weeks, but unfortunately I've found they're not to the same quality as Enelopps. Every few months I'll have one battery that refuses to charge, with the charged flashing error.

    • May well be true but they're about 70% cheaper so still better off with Aldi ones?

      • That's what I figure, and why I keep buying them. But for those who have 'dumber' chargers that don't let you know if there's an issue with the battery, it's something to be aware of
