  • So which is it - the one in the title or the one in the specs?

    • +2

Sorry, Did I mess something up with the specifications?

UPDATE: Looks like I had the wrong capacity on the specifications list, has been corrected (CHEERS!)

  • Excellent phone and definitely a good price - I was able to buy for $283 at Officeworks price match/beat by 5% with another Aussie seller in early Jan. couldn’t be happier with the device overall.

    • +1

Was it Moto G5s Plus? I guess it must be Moto G5 Plus.

  • -1

complete opposite experience. Purchased from dwi and phone is worst i have ever owned- was perfect for first month ( really great) then developed an issue which is world wide - crashing launcher app and long lag times for anything making it by far the worst phone ever now. as i bought from overseas- no help at all from motorola- and no help from dwi either. expensive paperweight.

    • Did you update to the latest OTA then reset to factory settings?

    • +1

Update, factory reset, and if it still fails, maybe try a different launcher. I use Google Now Launcher on all the phones I've had. Quick and clean.

    • was gonna ask - better than Redmi Note 4x? but doesnt sound good above lol

      • I also had a look at the Redmi Note series and ended up getting the Moto G5S Plus… for two reasions:

        1) Later OS out of the box with Motorolla and apparently being updated to Andorid 8.0
        2) NFC included in the G5S Plus but was missing with the Redmi (I pay with my phone all the time now and this was an important feature for my needs)

        Good luck!

        • and moto has band 28 so all Australian bands are supported

      • I had the Note 4X global edition and wasnt happy as cannot select Australian region. Hence when sms are received it automatically truncated the preceding 0. The end result wax that I could not reply to sms until I copy the number in a new message, add the zero at the front andvhen send it.

Xiaomi device seemed to be good quality but unfortunately it’s not suitable to Australian users just yet until they fix the MiUI.

    • "world wide, like an epidemic, like polio or obesity ?" or isolated to specific vocal users.

They probably sold over 800,000 of these so problems are probably in the minority or it would be recalled, like Samsung batteries … that wasn't user specific, that was manufacturing fault.

Lag time …. depends what you have running and how many things are running.

Happy to swap with my moto 4GS (my spare phone) which runs like a fine swiss watch if you're in Melbourne and inherit your problems.

  • Whats the difference with xt1685 G5 plus? (I have it, 4GB ram and dual sim, both works on 3g/4g).

    • +1

The updated Special Edition's main 'upgrades' on the G5+ compared to the newer G5S+ is as follows:

      Upgraded body (metal body)
      - Dual rear cameras
      - larger screen (5.2 vs 5.5")
      - Slightly Faster Camera lens (F2.2 vs F2.0)
      - Higher MP front camera (5MP vs 8MP)
      - Higher quality video (1080P vs 2160P)
      - Shared 2nd SIM slot with SDCard (G5S+ can only have either a 2nd SIM OR SDCard installed)..

      • The Australian version of the G5S+ has 3GB of RAM but I believe you can find a 4GB RAM version online from overseas but I have not looked into it much as I mainly wanted something local but if you do get the 4GB RAM version perhaps just double check it includes the required bands as well…(I did not check into that side as I wanted local stock any way)
      • xt1685 camera is actually ƒ/1.7 aperture and 4K Ultra HD video capture (30 fps)

To me only bonus is dual camera. But the camera itself should be better 1.7 vs 2.0.

        https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=8699&idPhone2…

        Anyway, was just checking.

        • You are correct but I can't edit my reply above for some reason…

The specs I have above are for the front camera and not the rear camera…

          Eg,
          - Front Camera G5 Plus vs G5S Plus: f2.2 vs f2.0
          - Rear Camera G5 Plus vs G5S Plus: f2.0 vs f1.7

          Thanks for the correction :-)

      • yes, moto are a bit tricky with bands on some overseas model especially if USA specific. Need the SKU to compare.

      • Shared 2nd SIM slot with SDCard (G5S+ can only have either a 2nd SIM OR SDCard installed)

        that's suck..so you can't have 2 sims and SDcard?

Great deal! Been searching for a reasonably priced stock(ish) Android phone with decent features. Was thinking about the Moto X4 but it's too expensive considering it's fairly similar to this phone but double the price

  • +1

I bought this one two weeks ago .under $300 during one of the EBAY discount promotions. it has 4 gig RAM Delivered in two days.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Motorola-Moto-G5S-Plus-XT180…

it also has the NFC thingy

I think $12 extra for an additional 1 gig RAM is better value

    • 20% off doesn't work for this one :( any way to get further savings for it?

      • I actually paid $284.05 delivered. I was just lucky my timing to run over my other phone There was some Ebay code for Australian sellers that was on Ozbargain. This is my third Moto G and I'm pretty happy with it.

        Good luck

  • "This code can't be applied to your order."
    Why?
'edit: was looking at 4GB option soz

  • Can anyone please comment on the camera? Would the camera be an upgrade from LG G3?

Going on the above it looks like quite a decent improvement in good light.. in terms of low light I'm not sure but I assume it must be better as well given the increase of quality in the camera in good light…

      Hope it's of help. Enjoy!

P.S. some people reported the camera had some issues but I've read there has been a firmware/application update that addresses some of the issues, if anyone has more details please share on the changes and if it's improved any issues people faced (apparently the auto settings are improved as well as the dual camera effect as well but I'm yet to play with it myself and only just got the phone in the post today but out and about and will get to checking it out hopefully tomorrow or late tonight)

      • +1

Thanks a lot. I just watched a youtube review which claims it performs better than it's competitors under low light.

  • skip it for those people who travel..this phone doesn't have compass
