    Price jacking starting ASAP!!

    • +33

lol. It's almost permanently on 20% off for the majority of these stores so it's permanently "Jacked" as the new RRP.

    • +2

Must this really be the top comment every time an eBay sale is posted?

      • +85

Until sellers stop price jacking, yes.

        • Amen.

        • +11

Yep let's all turn a blind eye to practices breaching Australian Consumer Law while the vendors in turn get endless publicity.

        • -7

          @timbo83:

Oh yeah, because every member complaining about it is worried about laws being broken!

        • -1

@timbo83: It's not in breach of ACL. The issue is that eBay is the one providing the promotion whereas the retailers simply set the price. Ultimately, the best party to complain to is actually eBay because the more prices to up, the higher the discounts they have to pay out, so they have an incentive to minimise any price increases as well. I do wonder why they don't.

        • +1

          @p1 ama:

I would still argue false and misleading conduct, as it is entirely reasonable that a non ozbargainer would expect to receive the full 20% off the ordinary pricing from the respective vendor.

Not sure EBay and the vendors get a free pass just because there is a triparte relationship with the customer involved. Any traditional retailer would certainly be in breach.

I'm sure an actual ACL expert could comment much better of course.

        • @timbo83: I'm not saying turn a blind eye. I'm just saying stop stating the obvious.

        • -2

@timbo83: I've previously worked in market regulation and competition in the area of mergers. So I'm not an ACL expert, but many of my former colleagues are. Their opinion is that it's not a breach and there is little legal precedent, so a court case might not result in the desired outcome.

      • +1

        Our cynicism is justifiably so.

    • nope, their price is already from the previous discount

    • +4

No need to jack prices if you never have any deals to start with

    • Well if we pay with tuziicoin will you cover price jacking?

    • Thanks

  • +9

I came here just for the price jacking comments :O

…nah I actually need a bluetooth speaker, any recommendations??

..and a TV hopefully cheaper than the Kogan 50'

Came here for the sponsored posts.

UE boom2 is great for outdoors as its shock and water resistant. Megaboom for the larger version

Bose soundlink offers a little better sound but its pretty much only for indoors.

    • +3

I came here because I got lost :(

    • +1

I'd recommend the anker portable speaker which can be bought from amazon. Depends on your needs for volume etc.

I haven't used it personally but it's got a high rating and pretty good battery life(30ish hrs). Version 2 is water resistant too.

      • +1

Got one of these a while back.
Small size, nice crisp sound and battery lasts forever, but it has almost no bass.

    • +1

JBL Charge 3 is what I currently have, amazing speaker.

    • +2

I got a JBL Flip 4 for $78 a while back. Pretty awesome little unit! Not too big, excellent sound for the form-factor, and water-proof; it's fit my needs bloody well.

  • +24

Not even sure why I am here

Would love an idea of a good Micro SD for Nintendo Switch please!

    • I believe SanDisk actually makes an overpriced card specifically for the Nintendo Switch.

    • Samsung Evo+ or plus

  • +3

Last chance today to stock up those eBay gift cards from Woolies for a potential 36% off (wish GC + eBay GC + eBay promo + CR)

    • +4

Could you please elaborate on how that works?

      • +6

Purchase Wish GC at 5% off, use those GC to buy eBay GC from Woolies (giving you 10% back as Woolworths Dollars), then use the eBay GC to buy something in this sale (via CashRewards). I think that's it anyway…

        • exactly. I was too lazy to type all these lol

    • +4

How many gift cards can you use each transaction?

  • +8

So is anyone going to provide any actual links to the non price jacked bargains this time? Or are we all just going to give this a few hundred positive votes again without any thought?

    • +1

      3 so far…

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/359628/related

      Last time had heaps too!

    • You mean this shop ?

      Hardtofind

    • +9

Sadly nope, it'll get the same number of upvotes, seems people are happy not knowing that they're able to get a cheaper deal elsewhere.

      • -3

You should link cheaper prices elsewhere on the existing deals then.

        • +18

The onus is not on me to provide links to deals elsewhere, as I'm not the one that posted the deal in the first place.

Though since you insist, a simple 5 second search gave me this.

          https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MSI-nVidia-GeForce-GTX-1080-Ti-G…

          http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=mSI+1080+Ti+gam…

$1319.2 after 20% discount vs. plenty of places that sells it for cheaper (at a non discounted price).

        • +7

          @Clear:

Not posting any deals and downvoting generic sitewide deals that always contain pricejacks are mutually exclusive.

        • +2
        • +1

@matte1: Perhaps but I'm still waiting for you to link something cheaper from the deals posted.

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/359628/related

        • @Clear:

There are 15 deals posted there that are cheaper, I'd be willing to bet there are far more items that are price jacked compared to ones that aren't and are legitimately lower on eBay compared to other stores/retailers.

Once again, the onus is not on the public to always prove otherwise, it is on the OP as they are the one posting the "deal".

You're hanging onto threads - see Orpheus' comment regarding your logical fallacy.

        • +1

@matte1: When he asked if links were going to be posted you replied that there would be not. Now you say that there are deals posted?

        • -1

          @Clear:

Yes there are links being posted, that's a great step forward - which some might argue should've been attached to the original post anyways.

Keep hanging onto that thread, it doesn't negate the fact that there are far more "deals" that have been price jacked.

        • @matte1: The issue is that before a deal becomes active we're not allowed to actually post any deals incase of price jacking or being removed completely.

I'm not denying price jacking. I think we should report those to the ACCC and wait for the bargain hunters to find the real deals behind the junk. Thankfully eBay sales always generate genuine bargains unlike a lot of other stores who never have bargains in their sitewide sales.

      • +4

And no doubt the ones that comment or vote honestly will get downvoted and their votes revoked (im sure like yours will). So much for a user voting system that isnt biased. Unfortunately ad revenue has become more important than actual bargains on this site.

    • +3

I don’t know who we is but every time ebay has a sale hundreds of people up vote without any clear reason.

  • +1

    No computer alliance, no deal

  • +2

TFW that even with stacked 10% and 20% discount codes, an entry-level GTX 1060 3GB is the same price a mid-range GTX 1060 6GB was 5 weeks ago (that I subsequently got dicked out of on a return).

    https://img.buzzfeed.com/buzzfeed-static/static/2015-04/13/1…

    • +2

Could be worse… Scarily they're actually going for more in the US than here

Probably a sign of the apocalypse.

      • Given that the next-gen announcement is 8 weeks away, it's hopefully for the best, but you can bet I'm following through with my complaint to Consumer Affairs.

Avoid Futu Online/Shopping Express (same company).

  • -1

Non stopped 20% Off offers. In a hurry to buy Gift card from woolies now

    • -1

They’re not really 20% off so what’s your hurry? These ‘sales’ are non stop.

    • -1

is it too late though? especially CR dont send you your Wish GC the same day??

    • +2

I don't get it, what's the connection with wollies gift cards and ebay 20% off sales?

  • +4

Looking for a good PS4 Pro / PS4 Pro Bundle deal if anyone comes across one. Still kicking myself for missing the Amazon deal in December >_<

  • I knew that there will be a new 20% off deal right after the last one

  • +2

    Here we go again.

  • +1

Last one of these (Oz Day Sale) I picked up a Moto G5 Plus from Allphones for $247 (with the 20%) off. Great price. I see their base price for this phone has gone back up to $440 though, so you're looking at $352 for the same phone this time around.

  • A real shame. I came here for the 'any bargains' comments and the 'I need a new TV/laptop which one should I get'.
All these upvoters, have you found any good deals?

    • I must say I have to swallow my words. That Lenovo Miix 700 was an amazing deal, and also got a good price on the Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2.

  • Arghhh so tempted to just buy the 65x9000E from videopro even with the jacked price.

  • Needed kindle paperwhite, any stores sell these? Thanks

  • Samsung Note 8, dual sim, best best $895, a little more than last time, thank God really, wont bite

  • +1

I'm over these eBay sales. I've caught out too many sellers inflating prices by %100.

    • +12

      why'd you upvote?

      • +7
