Amplify Signature Credit Card 90k Qantas Points/$5k Spend/90 Days 2 Lounge Passes $279/Year @ St George/Bank of Melb/Bank SA

200

St George have amended the way the 90k points are given to you. Before the latest update it was 90k points over 2 years, meaning you had to pay 2x annual fees. Now it has changed to one lump sum of 90k after you meet the criteria. I called and have confirmed with their management it is how I have just explained. The previous points scheme stopped a lot of people from signing up to this card so lets hope this helps a few people out, I signed up last night and have been approved already. So good chance if you have a large purchase coming up shortly you can get this card in time.

There are two point systems for the card, Qantas and their own point system. Qantas being the better value in terms of signup bonus, if you look at the points being worth at least 1c each. With the Qantas flavour you get obviously Qantas points and 2x Qantas lounge passes, with the other you get 2x Priority Pass passes

General Info

  • 90k Qantas points for $5k spend over 90 days (Reward Points)
  • 2 Qantas Lounge passes (Priority Pass)
  • $279 annual fee
  • .75 QFF per $ on general spend (1.5 reward points)
  • $75k income requirement
  • $15k min limit

With some calcs done @ $279 fee, you can be up $721 if selling points at 1c and lounge passes at $50 each. Or if just looking for points and selling the passes you end up paying .305c per point. All this is excluding the $5k spend, just looking at annual fee, lounge passes and points.

Be sure to read through all the T&Cs before applying

Op: can I make a suggestion
    Change

I am one of those weird people that doesn't say zero point x, instead I say point x. The engineer inside me says it is inefficient to put it that way, so for now I shall leave it unless others are confused.

PS not sure why you got negged :S

      • +1

I don't say zero point either, I only suggested it for clarity, I read it as 75pt/$ but maybe I should clean my screen a bit more.

not worried by negs. I once got a +1 from JV, that's worth a million neg from Footsie.

    • Splitting hairs. Same thing.

    • Can I ask what & where is rental excess insurance ?

      • Its part of the travel insurance. Basically saves you buying CDW insurance for rentals.

        From this PDF (p49)
        https://www.stgeorge.com.au/content/dam/stg/downloads/accoun…

        Rental vehicle excess insurance

        Level 1 Card cardholders.
We will reimburse you up to A$5,500 for any insurance excess or deductible which
you become legally liable to pay in respect of a claim under the 'Rental vehicle

  • Hmm… Tempted. Really? Offer expires in October?

    • Have amended the end date!

No annual fee if you have a home loan advantage package with St George. Something worth consider if you're looking for a mortgage anyway.

  • good offer from untrustworthy bank, no thanks

    • As someone considering it, what's your experience with St George? Stay away?

      • +1

Have a look at previous St George credit card deal comments on this site and you will know what I mean

They don't seem to honour bonus points when they are due or they delay it beyond claimed terms.
In my case, they didn't credit my points and I had to call them few times to get that sorted.

About to finish my year on the ANZ FF Black - Contemplated this but just signed up to Qantas Platinum Premier instead - only $149 for the first year for 75k points with a $3k spending requirement.

    • Qantas premier pissed me right off. They said I had to get my manager or someone higher up than me to call them up and verify that I actually work where I claim to work.

      • I assume you are a FF points hunter with multiple applications in the past, am i right?

        • no, this is only my 3rd credit card application in 3 yrs.

I've only had ANZ QFF black, AMEX Explorer and now this one

        • @HarveySpecter:
Hmmm…thats interesting, it happened to me with citibank application, they were saying its because of my multiple applications within 12 months

        • @Damnsmart: Yeh well, I'm never signing up with another citibank product ever again. Funny though because I actually got one of those Free fee for life citibank platinum credit cards 4yrs ago and that application was painless. Now for this one, they were asking stupid questions like which bank I banked with, what's my mums maiden name. I told them to cancel my application because I've just had enough of them, but I think the credit check for this credit card will still appear :(

  • This deal is also available with BankSA and Bank of Melbourne, same terms.

  • As usual, you can get an identical deal from BankSA or Bank of Melbourne just by changing the domain name in the URL, ie.

No free flight or travel credit. $279 per year is pricey. I know you get the bonus points but…

  • Nothing in the terms say that government charges don't count towards the eligible spend. Unless I am missing something (I went to the back of melb site)

  • These lounge passes

Can I use them at say Sydney airport international when I am flying Cebu Pacific to Manila?

Also what do they sell for here on the OzBargain black market?

  • So thanks to another comment on one of the other St George threads, I closed my browser half way through applying and sure enough 10 mins later got an email offering to waive the $99 annual fee. But, here are the t&cs…

*To be eligible for $0 annual fee waiver in first year, complete your application for a new credit card by clicking ‘Complete Now’ button on this email between 12/02/2018 and 14/03/2018. If your application is approved, the first annual fee will be debited on the 12 month anniversary of the first transaction.

So, the first annual fee won't be debited until after the 12 month anniversary, when presumably I will be charged the second year annual fee! That's really two for the price of one, not first year free. Am I reading that correctly?

    • what if you cancel after 6months?

    • Nice tip, does it work with this card and the $279 annual fee? Certainly worth trying

      • Have you tried it?

        • Yep tried it and didn't work with the $279 signature card.

        • @endolphin: dammit

    • How far along the application did you get? And did you just close the browser without saving your application? Thanks

      • +1

Got up to the salary page and just closed the browser

  • HSBC is offering their Qantas Platinum card with 60K points at $199 annual fee.

    http://www.hsbc.com.au/1/2/personal/credit-cards/platinum-qa…

I think its a better value than St George one cos an extra 30K point is not worth an extra $100. Also its only $3,000 minimum spend compared to $5,000

    • How is that better value when the St George 60k bonus point offer costs only $99?

      • oh yeh, I'm comparing it to the Amplify signature version.

Well actually St George is $0 fee using the trick above making it probably the 2nd best deal behind ANZ

        • well I actually pointed out that using that trick doesn't actually give you the first year free. It basically gives you the second year free, the way I read the T&Cs anyway…

As soon as you get the card you will be charged $99. A year later, you will be refunded $99 but at the same time as being charged another $99 for the second year. Net effect is paying $99 for the first year and zero for the second. Which, is basically pointless for bonus points chasers.

        • @endolphin:

I read it as the annual fee will be charged on the 12 months anniversary, so the first year is free.

Having said that, I completed the application but didn't submit, only to get a reminder to submit.

  • Soooo … if you closed your st georeg cc less than 12 months ago, are you eligible for the bonus if you apply for a bom or bsa card this time round?
