    zojirushi!

    • Any particular model?

      Something like this:
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Made-in-Japan-ZOJIRUSHI-Rice-Coo…

Some of them on EBAY have Japanese writing on the buttons - we need English or Tagalog…

      • no set model per se… but one that fits the appropriate size
is it mainly just for you 2, or is it intended to cook for the family

i can't read the japanese but not hard to get the translated manual. i'd rate them quite high (but from an ozb point of view, they're not really a bargain in that sense)

      • get the most expensive one you can afford, they will last you a good 10-15 years.

      • I have the Zojirushi NS-ZAQ10 (made in Japan) which is the 1 litre model. It has been fantastic and that size is good enough for 4 people. We have used it nearly everyday for 6 years. I bought it in Singapore for around $240. There is also the NS-ZAQ18 which is the 1.8 litre.

Tiger have been given good wraps by some too.

Not sure if this is too low end though

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Tiger-Multi-functional-Rice-…

  • Cheap Panasonic and Tefal options

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Tefal-Rice-Multi-Cooker-10-in…

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Tefal-Rice-Multi-Cooker-10-in…

Our current machine is a $15 Kambrook. Rice is burnt/dried at bottom all the time…

  • Also I understand some Tiger models are sold in Costco.

I am a member but its a 3 hour drive. Any info on the model sold and/or prices?

  • Also whats the difference between a "cheap" Tiger at $200

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Tiger-10-Cup-Rice-cooker-JNP-180…

Versus an expensive one at $550?

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Tiger-10-Cup-IH-Rice-Cooker-JKT-…

    • If you want to do brown rice you will need the more expensive one but if you just want normal rice then the "cheap" one will give the same result.
Also before going to the expense of a serious try simply buying better rice. I use a simple microwave rice cooker but buy export quality rice via a Japanese grocer (not that expensive if you buy the large packet) and get delicious rice everytime.

Japanese rice are not the best.. if you want amazing taste and premium quality try any indian shop and ask for basmati or sella rice.

        • +1

depending on taste i suppose, i prefer japanese rice than basmati

  • Tiger from costco

my girlfriend who loves rice for Valentines Day.

    Rice for Valentines?

    • Why spend $500? Spend 2% of that by taking her to a local Vietnamese once a week. Heaps of rice dishes to choose from, no cooking effort, and no washing dishes afterwards. She'll love you.

      • A quality tiger or equivalent can last for 25 years. It doesn't get any cheaper than than.

Ive got the Panasonic Fuzzy Logic one - it goes alright without spending 300 bucks……..I mean…..you need to cook a whole bunch of rice to warrant a $300 investment for something that really can just be cooked in a pot on the stove.

    • I'm tryna figure out what the difference would be by just using the $40 one from your local Kmart/Big Dub, etc

      • Yeah probably not much - The bowl probably is better and rice wont stick too it - And I find with the Fuzzy Logic stuff my rice is fluffier because its changing its cooking processes through the cook, rather than my old cheap one where it would sometimes go to mush.

    TIGER!

    • But whats the difference between the $200 tiger and the $500??

  • Tiger

  • $15 one from kmart…. im asian with an asian family and its never let us down in about 4 years now and we use it about twice a day. cooks fast. and is very simple.

    I use this microwave container.
    Fluffy rice every time.

    http://www.everten.com.au/progressive-microwave-rice-cooker-…

Only break out the rice cooker when there is more than 4 people.

    • We use something similar. Not even sure why someone would buy an electric rice cooker, whats so good about them? The plastic ones in the microwave make beautiful rice in around 12mins, hassle free.

  • I still like the original way of cooking rice. Boil it in a pot for 15 minutes in abundant water, then drain in a colander.

  • Buy the $40 Tupperware one for the microwave that has a lifetime warranty and take her out for expensive dinner that has rice 😳

We have a Tefal Fuzzy Logic and it makes amazing rice every time. After years of cheap $15 Kmart rice cookers we decided to try something different. Would never go back. Tefal takes much longer to steam the rice (46 mins) but the result is amazing - the cooked rice is the same quality on top of the cooking pot as on the bottom (never burnt or dry) and rice grains fall away from one another. Just budget in the cooking time (i.e. put the rice on before you start cooking anything else, or set the inbuilt timer to program the cooker for when you need it) and enjoy the perfect rice. Good luck with your choice! PS On our recent trip to Japan, we were surprised to learn that the Fuzzy Logic is one of the main rice cookers used by locals! :)

  • 'I want to buy a rice cooker for my girlfriend who loves rice for Valentines Day'.
You are a real romantic aren't you? She will be overwhelmed.

  • Get a $30 rice cooker. As good as any
But I wouldnt make this a (dud) Valentines day present.
You give flowers, chocolates and love Hearts on Valentines day

  • Get one of these - more than just a rice cooker - absolutely love mine

  • Zojirushi has 120 volts only so won't work in australia?

  • Breville rice cooker $40 from goodguys.
I really like it, I eat rice about 1-2 times a day.
Just get good rice like jasmine, and need know how to cook rice. It’s very important to get the right amount of water.

Kambrook one $30 lasted more than 5 years. We like that too. But breville one is 8 cups instead of smaller.

    Highly recommend.
