Seems like a really decent deal.
    I think it's great value

  • Decent pricing. How's the upgradability though?

    • +1

      It's pretty good

      • Can you please give advice on that? For example which type of RAMs to choose if I wanna upgrade it to 32GB. Thanks.

        • +5

Looking at the specs it says 8GB DDR4 RAM. When adding RAM to a system, the only specs that need to be the same I believe is the voltage. This should work but for best results go for the same set of RAM, with the same frequency, CAS latency voltage etc. But again, so long as the voltage and DDR number (DDR4 in this case) is the same then it should work, but for performance sake, and stuff like OCD and peace of mind, I'd personally try to get a whole set the same, by either finding the exact same RAM model the system already has or just buying a new set. There are different types of sets though such as 8x2 RAM making 16GB, or 4x4, there are even just single sticks of RAM that are 32GB, but for that stuff is personal preference (but yes there will be some performance advantages or disadvantages). At the end of the day, RAM specs at a certain point towards the higher spec'd stuff is minimal between each different brand or type, unless you're doing something that absolutely needs every bit of performance. Hope this comment helped and wasn't too confusing or wrong (3am-brain crashing)

@waysubsubway: i wrote a lkong explanation but accidentally refreshed so i said fk it

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod: haha, was it more or less similar to what I said? Hoping I didn't get a lot wrong.

        • @waysubsubway: ya pretty much

        • +1

          @waysubsubway:

DEFINITELY match your RAM. Freezes, sub-expected performance are what you can expect if you don't.

I have run patchwork RAM confifs plenty of times (all sticks have passed thorough diagnostics) and when the unmatched sticks are taken out the PC behaves (maybe not performs) better.

There is also plenty of online advice and discussions from those waaaay more qualified than me on the subject.

        • nope you guys have said it all, mixing ram sometimes has issues with the refresh cycles being different. between brands, even at same clock speeds ( some brands use more cycles than others for a refresh). so need to read specs very closely when adding ram.

        • +1

Um why do you need 32gb of ram ?

        • +4

          @solidussnake: crysis

        • @waysubsubway: thank you bro haha, that's very nice of you

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod: thanks all the same :)

        • I'd advise looking up 'how much ram do I actually need' on a search engine rather than spend hours researching on matching ram types. Try it with the 8gig and put a ram meter app on a second monitor maybe

  • Will warranty to be void if f you add an SSD? Does anyone know if Dell puts those crappy warranty stickers over chassis case screws?

    • In the description it says they will create a custom listing for you if you want to upgrade the warranty and i would also assume with upgrading other items. If that's the case then it would provide reasoning for them to void warranty on the pre-built PC. Just my reasoning.

    • +5

      Recently got the 5675.

There are no warranty stickers over the screws. Side panel is easy to get on and off, only 2 screws. Plenty of room inside too.

Mouse and keyboard are wired, not wireless. Okay quality though. Mouse is simple two button with scroll wheel. Keyboard is slim and keys have a nice feel/press.

Unit is quiet, only just hear the fan.

It has a pretty blue glow :)

      • -2

Unfortunately, it gets louder if you start mining :(

    • Dell is pretty good with adding components. They don't make any effort to prevent upgrades and won't void your warranty if you add extra RAM, drives etc. They obviously won't warrant the added components.

  • +2

Considering this comes with all the little goodies like KB / mouse / Windows / Wireless cards that most gaming builds don't this is pretty nice

  • only GTX1060 3Gb… if GTX1060 6Gb, I will buy it.

    • +22

      Thanks for letting us know

    • +8

There's always one person that thinks a deal could be better and that they would buy it if it were.

  • hrmm, so should I get a Dell Optiplex 9020 i7, 8gb ram for $285, then spend another $300 to get a 1050ti and extra 8gb ram to make it 16gb. Or should I spend more and get this one?

    Any comments?

    • Honestly, I would fork out the extra ~$400 and get this, it's new and will offer a lot more longevity.

      • Thanks noted. I just like the optiplex cos of the Small form factor case.

        • +1

That's a different story, if you're wanting to transport it around then I would recommend the OptiPlex, but if it's just going to stay at home, go the Inspiron!

        • @Lorindor: I relocate like once every year and my PC is the most annoying thing to move around.

        • @Homr:

I wouldn't buy a SFF PC just so it's easier to move once a year, but each to their own!

        • @Lorindor: How long do you think the optiplex will last me for? 5yrs?

I'm currently running Phenom x6 quad core 1055t, 8gb ram and 280x. I've had this PC for almost 8 yrs now and I've upgraded the ram and video card during these years. I don't really need to upgrade because its doing just fine but my desktop case is just big and bulky its annoying and I can't really resist the urge of not purchasing these optiplexs because its a pretty good deal.

I'm not sure how efficient the 1055t is now in terms of bench marking, but surely the 6 Cores did future proof me in a way that help me last this long?

    • For the price this is a decent pc especially with how ddr prices and GPU prices are going

I would probably buy it if I was looking

      Pros:
      - you can always put a 8700k in it
      - the 1060 is still a beast of a card even in the 3G model

      Cons:
      - only has a hdd (but that's upgradable)

      • Yeh in this deal, there will be a few stuff I won't even need. Like the HDD and all keyboard/mouse stuff.

        I already have a 500gb SSD and 4TB HDD, 2x2TB HDD I can reuse.

  • +10

Gtx1060 is all the firepower you need if, like me, you game in the Ozbargain spirit and just wait for 2012's blockbusters to go on humblebundle for $2.

    • +1

Yep a 6 gig 1060 does the job..even with most new titles

    • even in 1440p gaming?

      • +1

No sir. I'd cut things off at 1080p. Can still reach 60fps on some nice looking games at max settings though.

Bottom line - gtx1060 is fine if you stay at 1080p.

        • My monitor is a 27" 1440p tho :(

        • +1

@Homr: do what I do and play medium settings

        • +1

@Homr: I am running a GTX 1060 6gb with a 27" 1440p screen and it runs fine. Constant 60fps or better in pretty much everything, with the exception of BF1 and Battlegrounds where it drops to ~50 occasionally. You can just adjust detail levels to suit - the GeForce Experience application does a great job of tuning your settings to make gameplay smooth while giving you the best graphics possible.

        • @klaw81: Really? Maybe I can get a nicer screen someday then :D
1080p is showing its age these days, but I'm happy I can even reach it.

        • @klaw81: oh ok thanks, I'm not looking for 100+ fps anyway. I'm kinda outdated with all these technology but I thought a naked eye can't tell the difference between 60fps and 100fps. However, you can with the newer monitors that support 144hz? I remember that all monitors were limited to 60hz

        • @Homr: Most screens have a maximum refresh rate of 60Hz anyway, so extra frames from the GPU don't make any difference. But if you have a gaming screen capable of 100Hz+ you will see a difference… assuming your GPU can supply the extra frames.

        • @klaw81: Yes, that's exactly what I meant. What's the point of having a GPU capable of 100FPS when you can't tell the difference???

        • @Homr: Begin an arms race with yourself. Raise your firepower to the point where you need a new GPU. Then a new monitor again. It can go on forever!

        • @Homr: Huge, visible difference between 60fps and 30fps.
Compare Metal Gear Solid 2 (60fps) and 3 (30fps) on the PS2, or Mario Kart 8 splitscreen (30fps) vs single player (60fps) and you'll see what I mean.

    • +1

Pretty much my story with desktop pcs. Had a 486 for years…. a Pentium 2 when people were on a P3 etc etc. While I was always up to date with my consoles (in comparison my cousins got a Master System…. when the Snes was the in thing, and a SNES when the Playstation was in mid cycle).

I was content with catch up gaming, my P4 was the start of slowly keeping up to date - was still able to play current year Fifas even though pc specs for fps and other games long since went past. I've had 2 pcs since 2010 (the 2010 pc was fun catching up with games from 2008 - onward). My gaming pc from 2012 is finally long in the tooth many games are now starting to match or slightly pass my pc specs in minimum requirements. All I can really do is upgrade ram (currently 16gb) or another video card (currebtly 780ti).

Funny thing is I don't always game on the proper resolution (1080), tend to choose something lower. And while I do like High or Ultra settings for most things…. I turn certain settings off (eg: Tessalation in most games gives me motion sickness in most pc games).

Also have to contend with coil whine IF I get more than 120 fps. So while max fps is important I reach a happy medium that suits me.

Sorry for the boring story, seems like a cool deal for people looking for a ready made decent gaming computer.

    • That's a very poor reason to neg.

      • +1

That and the comment is untrue. The system "running" between SSD and HDD is almost negligible difference . Loading time is where SSD will show an advantage. If you are a bit patient, this system will do just fine.

  • -1

Is it easy enough too install and clone a SSD in this with Windows 10 …
and where to apply the code as it’s already showing 20% off with code PRESENT20 at $1,199.00 ?

  • This looks interesting as well.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Intel-Core-i5-8400-Max-4GHz-8GB-1…

On the pic it says 20% off using the same code. Seems to include an SSD without the OS but gives options of upgrading other sections of it

  • Tempting but not too sure if 460w will be enough to oiser my 1080

  • Can anyone recommend a decent monitor to go with this? Or is anything fine? Thanks, I'm a noob.

    • Dell U2417h with 20% off on ebay

  • Bought one! Thanks OP!

  • +2

If you missed this deal back on Valentine's Day like I did, you should be able to get it again with the P20TECH discount.

  • Worth buying it as a shell for my existing GTX 1080 system?
It's running an old 2500k which is bottlenecking it badly.

    • +1

If you are just ripping out parts then probably not. you can get an i5 8400 + Z370 + 16GB DDR4 ram starting from $600.

  • +1

I play around a lot with building PCs so if you are looking for a custom build options I will leave this list here. This gives you the 6GB version of the 1060 but it does sacrifice things like a copy of windows. However not everyone needs windows. Using the b350 chipset there is room to overclock this CPU as well as having 4 RAM slots to expand the RAM.

    https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/6NgXLJ

    • yeah not bad

this has keyboard and mouse, windows and a convenient warranty since they're all from the same place.
how does the 2200g stack up to the 8400?

      • 8400 is ~20% better. However at a 1060 level your bottleneck is more likely to be the GPU. If going for a 1070 or higher I'd definitely recommend a higher CPU.

That said that was at stock speeds. The 2200G can be overclocked another 500-600 MHz with ease and the 8400 is locked. bringing them much closer together.

edit: also would like to point out you might be able to find deals cheaper than the list has specified since that is their normal price.
