Super HD, PRO… what other words can they use to describe an average product… ULTIMATE, EXTREME…

Camera cable looks like RJ59 coaxial. There's no standard for transmitting more than 1080p through coax (at least not in this price range)so 3MP is a gimmick.

    • not that I am any more knowledgeable than you but do you have any solid evidence to back this up?

I mostly ask because I have seen first hand 3MP setups over coax.

      • +1

TVI, CVI, AHD, HD-SDI are HD over coax standards - all 1080p. 1536p is like upscale from those.

    • RJ59 coaxial

You meant to say rg59, right.

  • hi boys and girls , is this any good for home or should l be looking at something else ??

    • Depends on what you want.
This looks like it is supported by their homesafe view app
      Android https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.homesafevi…
      iOS https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/homesafe-view/id1155986321?m…

      See anything you like?
That goes for for all their apps

      • I've got that exact model..the app is not that good. The device keeps disappearing from the app. Need to close and reopen the app everytime for it to reappear. Connecting to the device from the app on 4g is also very slow..

      • thanks

        • Keep an eye on Swann's refurbished stock, like right now there is an 8 channel, 6 THERMAL sensing cameras 1080p (2MP) is $449.50 - 20% (refurb20 - code).

I'd only buy the Thermal cameras as they're more functional if you want to use the alert/motion sensing options.

Hanging out for the 5MP thermal camera systems to get cheaper.

        • "Thermal cameras as they're more functional"
          No, they are not.

It doesn't matter if they highlight objects differently. At night time everything is going to be the same colour – grey.

        • @pupkin:

a security camera equip with a thermal sensor helps the user to detect and identify objects better than a camera with only ir. it may also help reduce false positive for automated systems.

        • @whooah1979:
True for commercial applications and false for a backyard monitoring.

Swann is not a professional equipment and never been. So I'd expect that feature there to be of no practical use.

Cops in Australia wouldn't bother much if they can't identify suspect clearly on a footage, unless it's a public safety matter.

        • @pupkin:

our system overlooks the front, sides and back. it records about 500 to 1000 false positives during the course of the day due to the wind blowing objects, shadows from neighbouring trees and headlights from passing vehicles at night. thermal sensing may reduce this.

it doesn't hurt to try this system. just return it for a refund if it does't work as described.

  • Or aldi special on 14th 8 channel for $299.

    • I saw that one too. I’m not Aldi-phobic per say but with something that I’d have to get into the roof and wire up I’m a little bit hesitant about Aldi, as post 60 day I’m unsure how good support would be. Also, to be specific, I’m not concerned about fire hazard more so spare parts and whether it’s some sort of proprietary adapters so the whole system would have to be uninstalled if it needed to be returned because of some drastic problem down the track.

Having said all that, I’ve absolutely no idea about CCTV security systems.

  • Hi,
Do you know if these codes works with other swann security cameras?
    Thanks.
    Richard

  • This or a PoE system for home installation?

    • This is much easier to setup.
