NAS Synology DS918+ and 4TB Seagate HDD $550 @ Synology

810

Received an invitation to the Synology seminar and workshop. Package 2 includes the NAS Synology DS918+ and 4TB Seagate HDD for $500.

Great NAS, I had it for 2 months now and don’t know what I would do without it. Wish I was able to attend considering the NAS alone goes for around $750.

    • And yes, I signed up before it was ozbargain'd, so not one of the freeloaders jumping on board for a cheap NAS.

Hardly freeloading if it’s $550 though.
Most people would have benefited from the workshop if they were buying a NAS.

      • Its freeloading, if you hadn't been signed up to the Synology newsletter to hear about it and only signed up and paid $550 to get a 'cheap' NAS as you seen it here.

So you're saying an existing customer won't benefit from the workshop, but an ozbargin users will 'benefit' from the workshop. Sure… Got it.

          No?
I can see how you'd be mad you missed out, but that's bad luck, not 'freeloading' (it appears you don't know what that word even means).

        • @theguyrules:

it appears you don't know what that word even means

Freeloading (or being a "freeloader") in everyday speech refers to the use by an individual or entity, for their or its own personal gain or benefit

Yep, sounds like what I said. They only signed up for their own personal gain of getting a cheap NAS. Watch ebay for them being sold in mass post the event at a profit.

        • @JimmyF: People who got the email could also be signing up to get a cheap NAS + free training, then sell the NAS.

I didn't get the email, yet I signed up to get the training + NAS. Does that make me a freeloader?

I can guarantee you, no one would bother signing up and turning up to the event just to sell it for $200 more. That's not worth it.

and yet, nearly 2900 clicks later on ozbargain. I think you might be a little out of touch with the people here. The things people will do to save 10 cents is amazing.

But I'm glad you as a non newsletter, non existing synology user got in. Good for you! Another big FU by Synology to its existing user base.

          Means nothing.

Ever think maybe you aren’t the target market for this?

        • @theguyrules: sure sure, just like your replies. Enjoy your freeloader NAS.

Ever think maybe you aren’t the target market for this?

Well unlike you, MY email invite says

You are cordially invited to our Synology Workshop 2018 in Melbourne. At the event, you will have an hands-on experience with Synology’s latest virtualisation and backup solutions.

@JimmyF: sounds like you don’t play well with other people.
It’s probably good that you got knocked back.

          @theguyrules: hahaha, says the freeloader

@JimmyF: not sure why you’re mad at people benefiting from this bargain. It seems like you are on the forum but fail to share any/many posts. Looks like you don’t mind finding out about bargains from this site but don’t want others to also benefit?

        • -2

@Tadashi: I share when I find a non targetted bargain to be had. Sadly unlike 3/4 of the trash posted on here, I don't see saving 30 cents on a item as a true bargain worth posting or the endless ebay junk posts of 10 or 20% off. Yeah we can all do the calcs ourselves.

Also this NAS deal was more 'targetted' via their newsletter, than really open for all to be had. But sure, yeah I could have posted it and went along with a heap of freeloaders only going for a cheap NAS, or I could have left it and went along with a bunch of people who use the product daily for business and/or pleasure who really want to learn more about the product.

          Guess which one I selected?

        • +1

@JimmyF: your assumption is that only as you call it “freeloaders” are taking up this bargain. If I was in the market for a NAS I would have appreciated this so I can take advantage of the training and the discounted NAS.

Your perception of the people in this forum is really narrow minded.

I’ll leave you to your opinion.

          @Tadashi:

Hey Tadashi just wanted to thank you again for posting this so I could get my cheap Freeloader NAS.

        • @JimmyF: Saltyboi

        • @Tadashi:

Your perception of the people in this forum is really narrow minded.

No perception. The people here are pretty narrow-minded and buy endless crap just because its cheap!

Watch ebay/gumtree post this event for the flood of Synology NAS with a 4TB HDD! Brand new, in box, unused!

No need to get all bent out of shape as you opened the flood gate for the freeloaders!

Just an FYI for the Freeloaders© out there assuming everyone gets the same, the drive they are using is the Seagate IronWolf NAS 4TB, ST4000VN008 - so a $168 drive.

    $550 - $168 = $382 NAS.

Devastated that I missed this, this is exactly the deal I've been wanting. To ease my pain was this a Sydney only deal?

  • Has anyone receive a call/email from their local distributor to finalise the payment/registration, yet?

    • Yes (Melbourne)

      • Was that a call or Email? and when?

I am still waiting for the payment call/email (have received the registration confirmation email)

        • Call. Wed or Thursday last week?

        • @stratbargain: Did they just provide you with payment details or did they ask you more questions?

        • @yolow:

Just payment details. Confirmed with Invoice

      • How was the Melbourne event workshop?

        • +1

          It was pretty good.

They covered off the 'new' VM stuff, demonstrated how to run a VM of DSM within DSM to do some cool stuff, and looked at the Active Backup for Office 365 features which were pretty damn good.

It did a really good job of covering off some of the corporate/SME features that I personally wasn't aware of and covered their product range to show how they slot into the different spaces out there.

It was hands on with 4-5 tasks to do as teams.

I think there were about 35 or so "Package 2" seats based on the shipping label of the NAS.

All in all a good use of a few hours.

  • Something I kinda missed at the conference, it sounded like they were planning to start charging a subscription fee for DSM.. Did I mishear or something??

    • Think you heard wrong

      • I hope so, but they were definitely talking about a subscription fee for some service of theres thats currently free, starting from 4th quarter..

Subscription on DSM would be a huge deal breaker, at least for me.
