Not really. Contrary to popular belief, the hardened plastic suitcases actually weigh more than their soft back counterparts. You can buy something like this for half the price: https://www.strandbags.com.au/luggage/american-tourister-app…
Wow that's a good price for American tourister. I've had 2 suitcases from them and they lasted well for 8 yrs+
The Samsonite is expensive but still light for that size in a hard shell :)

even at half price makes me cringe a little. $450 is a bit too much for me even though it has a reputable brand.
lol. I bought my last three at 60% or 70% off. They are damn good quality though.
60 or 70% is much better than 50 so probs might consider it then.
Wasn't their a recent Choice magazine study where Kmart and Aldi versions rated higher (and far cheaper) than Samsonite?
Would love to see this if it was true. Thing is warranty on Samsonite my bag after two to three years only has one major scuff from baggage handlers on jetstar to Japan
Not sure about the Aldi one. I got a set of 2 soft shell ones and on first time of use the large one had one of the wheels misaligned and it is not usable anymore.
They did a comparison of carry-on luggage and the Cosmolite 3.0 rated 84% (for $579), while K-Mart Hard Case rated 86%. key difference is the weight of the cosmolite (1.75kg), Kmart at 2.4kg is heavier. you could also buy 11 of the Kmart ones for the cost of this cosmolite right here. the Kmart large (to compare directly with this one) is $58, only 70cm, and that's about all you'll find out from the Kmart website.

This bag is over sized for checked luggage on most airlines, including Qantas.
