World2Cover Travel Insurance - 20% Code via Scoopon

760

Big Family trip coming up and I was hunting for decent Travel Insurance and Choice has ranked World2Cover Travel insurance in 3rd Place out of 144.
https://www.choice.com.au/travel/money/travel-insurance/revi…

The price seemed good as it includes kids up to 25 years of age for free.

I then went hunting for a coupon and found an old one here that is no longer active.
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/356953

After some digging I found a free 20% off coupon with Scoopon.
https://www.scoopon.com.au/deals/76014#/

They also have a $0 excess option which I thought was cheap.

Hope this post helps someone else out and their travels.

    Was pondering posting this…

Be warned, I listed all my current medical issues. While they would allow cover for them, I refused because it'd cost an extra $72. Hence I'm covered for everything else but those conditions. Might as well just not list them?

This is a Japanese company so I hope they have some decency and honour in them! I just bought some insurance off them to go on a cruise (cheapest policy I've ever seen with the 20% code).

At least they cover natural disaster by default unlike Sumitomo

Which other companies use "Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co., Ltd "?

    • +1

RACV, which is rated #1 from the Choice review linked by OP

Thanks Mat_Lab - just successfully used this code to purchase 2x policies.

    direct link, no scoopon required:
    https://world2cover.com.au/scoopon?promo=WW20S

also compare your final price against https://www.onlinetravelinsurance.com.au/ (Allianz backed, no promo code req'd)
little in it based on a few comparisons i did

    • Provides f**k all compared to the other one for my needs though. They also 'depreciate' your luggage contents as well.

      • +1

Most travel insurance seems to either depreciate or use vague terms allowing them decide what to pay when it comes to luggage.

        https://www.onlinetravelinsurance.com.au/
we will pay the lesser of:
        • the repair cost;
        • the replacement cost;
        • the amount it would cost us to repair or replace the item(s)
        allowing for any trade discounts we are entitled to;
        • the original purchase price; or
        • the depreciated value after allowing for age, wear and tear

        https://world2cover.com.au/
For the repair cost or loss in cash of Your Luggage You lose or that is stolen or damaged, that We think is reasonable. At Our sole discretion We also have the option to repair or replace the Luggage. If We decide to replace Your Luggage it will be with new Luggage

        https://www.travelinsurancedirect.com.au
We are entitled to choose between repairing or replacing the property or paying you its value in cash after allowing for reasonable wear and tear
(depreciation). Any payment, however, will not exceed the original cost of the item.

If you know of one that pays new for old, I'd be interested.

    • Just did a comparison between https://www.onlinetravelinsurance.com.au/ Comprehensive and https://world2cover.com.au/scoopon?promo=WW20S Essentials. World2cover was only a few dollars more but with $100 excess and higher limits on some items.

  • Doesn't appear to cover accidental damage to gear so I will pass.

Want something in case I drop/lose my camera.

    • It's covered under 'Luggage'

I rang them about this last week with the question 'What happens if I damage my camera or mobile phone?', guy said refer to the Luggage section of the policy

      • Did you ask about accidental specifically? The PDS will make it hard to claim for that.

        • +2

I am dealing with them right now. Can't tell you much about the outcome yet.

        • @and: Doesn't sound good :(

        • +1

@kronicmacstigator: Currently in the same boat. I called to enquire last week about accidental damage and they said it was covered (even though I couldn't find anything in the PDS). Lost my drone yesterday, fingers crossed they cough up.

        • @kronicmacstigator:

It's kind of my fault. Got few items damaged during the trip (accidental damage), submitted proofs of ownership, it took them 10 business days to come back to me and ask for the quotes to get the items repaired / replaced. I work full time so its still work in progress to get everything organised.

          S

        • @and: What kind of proof of ownership did you need? All I can think of for my phone for example would be my paypal records I guess.

  • Don't you get free cover if you pay with certain credit cards for your trip

    • +1

Yup, but make sure you read the fine print.

I have a Bankwest Zero Platinum credit which offers free travel insurance. However, a $250 excess applies per claim with that card (except for the replacement of your travel documents, credit cards, and travellers cheques and the emergency replacement of your clothes and toiletries but the excess only applies once if you make more than one claim as the result of a single event)

I did a quick quote for a 3 week trip to Japan that I have coming up and it would cost me around ~$82, including 20% discount ($60 essential cover + $22 no excess for all claims) for similar cover with no excess for any claims.

If I was to claim even once using the W2C insurance, I would be ahead of the complementary insurance on my credit card. The $250 excess on my credit card would also deter me from claiming certain things such as a lost suitcase as I would lose a substantial chunk off its value .

All being said, in my situation above the W2C insurance is more desirable (longer trip, thus having a greater chance of mishaps) but your mileage may vary depending on what your credit card cover offers.

  • Currently with them on a annual policy, but can't see annual policies on their website anymore.

    • +2

request a quote and look at the next screen… there's a mention of: Travelling again within the next 12 months? Consider our annual multi-trip policy.

  • +3

My premium was lower using the promo code TM20 than going through Scoopon. Both should suppose to give 20% discount.

    • +1

I had the same thing happen to me and then the price dropped at the last screen.

Nb. I also quoted without the promo code, this appears to be a genuine discount.

  • Other than this one what do ozbargainers recommend this one doesn't seem to cover camera items left in a locked car!

    • +2

Almost most of the travel insurances don't cover theft from a locked car. Some may cover if in a locked boot. I did check this one, and it does cover theft from a locked boot, during daytime hours. I only checked this, because my car got broken into in the USA a few months ago! It was such a pain having to claim insurance. I used SCTI and luckily I claimed back some items. Camera was included! Mine was only brand new too. My bag was not left in the boot either, but on the rear passenger floor. There was no boot in the SUV I had. Some items are not covered, like passport/cash/jewellery.

  • Thanks OP! They were heaps cheaper than NRMA and NIB (my current private health insurance provider) - and seems better coverage in all, as well. Also was a lot cheaper than https://www.onlinetravelinsurance.com.au/

  • Thanks for sharing mate. $57 for a couple, for 2 weeks in Vietnam - not bad!

  • Thanks OP. I bought annual insurance with nil excess. I'm prett happy with the price. It's the cheapest by far when doing my research.

  • I've never heard of world2cover - normally use covermore - but using this quote it is half the price of covermore. Anyone go through the claims process with world2travel? Was it ok?

  • Specifically i mean medical claims. I don't want to get sick, but just in case!

  • Thanks Mat_Lab - got a great deal with these guys - cheers

  • I got my lost prescription glasses claim finalised and paid out! After submitting the claim they asked a few questions a week after and I got paid out today!
