Given the weight of these things, this is a very decent price, shipped! Particularly for those who can't get to Fluidtek, or don't wanna stand inline for the sausage fest, er I mean sizzle!!! Limited stock is a concern though!!! ;)

Great price, though my Z5400's (the lesser sibling) are serving me well still.
the 5400's aren't necessarily a lesser unit. in a lot of ways they stack up quite favourably compared to the 5500's. I also own 5400's and love them!
Does any logitech sound system superscede the z5500 when it was released on 29/09/2004?

Flat cost postage to anywhere in Oz means us Sydney siders are getting robbed on the postage.
Luckily I can easily drive to Fluidtek (or the Apus warehouse but you don't allow pickups).
Paid $400 for my set back in June and they are one of the greatest purchases I have ever made for my PC. Excellent for games, movies and music. Though, if you do decide to get these speakers (which you should) then you should also invest in a good sound card.

Just remember there are 3 inputs: One Digital Coaxial, one Optical and one Analog Multichannel or Stereo
Actually you can have more inputs - you can change the 6ch audio analog multichannel to be 3 separate stereo inputs. So the other option it One Digital Coaxial, One Optical, Three analog 3.5mm stereo.
These are great speakers - if people find them too bass heavy, the bass is adjustable…..
They are good speakers, but they aren't just bass heavy their midrange does not compare to certain 2.1's or even 2.0 book shelves because of the small sized drivers.
Logitech is great for video games and movies, but if you're after something for music there are better systems out there.
Can you recommend me some speakers about $300 price range better than z5500?

you want the controller unit for a cheap dts/dolby 5.1 decoder as well as the sub because its very comparable to a branded home theater sub (and I mean VERY). If you're not happy with the satellites u can always switch them to a 4 BOSE tower speakers later (when more money arrives :D). It is more than adequate for a 5x5 hall/room.
Now I really hope those speakers are not over-hyped (last Logitech product I bought was a remote that is just a useless brick sitting in the corner). I just bought the speakers without doing my homework, just based on this thread. Sublime marketing… ;-)
