    4 wheels

Can I use it as a replacement for my car?

    • Try it and let us know how it went.

Sweet, just in time for Autumn/Winter.

Don't forget to buy the $50 voucher for $10.80 off ebay.

    Brings it down to $259

    • +1

(profanity), you are telling me now? :(

      • How did you get free shipping ocoolio?

I’m getting $51.19 for delivery to Brisbane.

        • Looks like they've removed free delivery but you should still be able to use shipster for free delivery.

        • @gooddealmate: Thanks, but even though our local Postie looks pretty buff, I'm not sure the 29kg AC unit will pass this shipster rule:

No oversized or heavy items that your postie can't carry (shipping costs under $20)

        • @toasty:

Yeah I read that but shipster still worked for the Dc fan I ordered through Kogan which was 8kg

    • @gooddealmate, how do you do that please? Buy $50 voucher for $10.80?

      • Just search for 'kogan voucher' on ebay and buy the '$50 off $120 spend' voucher. Think the cheapest one available now is about $13. Then once the seller emails the codes, enter them at the Kogan checkout stage.

        • thank you very much for replying

  • I am tempted. I have a guest room which is rarely used. It would cost about $1500 to install a split 2.5 KW.

    Any opinions?

    Thanks

    • +2

If guests don't' mind earplugs I'd say go for it.

    • $1500 for installation + the A/C is too exp. Should be able to hit around $1250 mark for 2.5 kw

  • Is the 3.5kW model worthwhile?

  • CAn you stack both $50 off $120 and $30 off $120 code?

    • -1

$50 maximum discount, unless you have the rare $10 off $50 code and then the $10 referral so all in total $70 maximum discount

  • -2

just be weary these ones are noisy

also interested in the energy rating for these

    • Even with the sleeping mode?

      • -1

They are noisy because the compressor is inside (not outside like split systems) but the kogan ones are still a bit noisier than other portable air con's

        • +1

Could put it outside the window with a vent going inside. :-)

      • one of the relo's has one. Unless its faulty, it was noisy

also read the reviews on kogan, for example

        • Excellent portable air con, while cooling it operates at a slightly higher decibel.
        • The ac has a noisier than expected compressor
        • I would have rated it an 8 or 9, but the unit is quite loud. I have it in my lounge room, and good thing, it's way too loud to be in a bedroom.
        • It does what it says. Although it is too noisy.
        • This product cools the room very well. It is a little noisy. Excellent value for money.
        • It's nice …working great…bit noisy…. and the hoise is bit weak material.
        • Awesome at cooling but quite noisy
        • It's a great unit but it's a little noisier than expected
        • The construction looks sound but it is a bit noisier than we expected
        • Might need earplugs

        • would buy one but have a fly screen which needs to be removed. also the security aspect of having this may make the window easily forced open. not sure if the unit can be used without the venting of the water? do it auto evaporate?

      • Having owned one similar to this, I'd say the noise when the compressor kicked in was more like a loud conversation (e.g. 60-70dB). It was enough to be obvious but crank the TV volume and you could drown it out (or wear headphones which I did at night anyway for the sake of the neighbours).

The more annoying part was it looked ugly - the large plastic air vent running to the window - and having to do the water tray every few hours.

Portable aircons should only be considered if you have no other option like you are renting etc and landlord is a tighward

    • -1

But they are also expensive to run.

They are still not subject to Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) and don't carry star rating labels.

My split system only cost me an extra $30 in electricity with low usage in the hot days of summer last quarter. Id imagine a portable aircon would have been twice to triple the cost for the same usage.

      • If you use it a few times a year for the spare room when you have guests I do not believe costs are much of an issue.
Definitely invest in a good split unit if it is a permanent fixture

  • Anyone knows good deals for split air conditioning for Victoria.

    We have 2 of these.

The comment regarding noise- they are very loud. Fine for sleeping but not great if you are watching TV. One will adequately cool a large bedroom.

I'd recommend buying extra warranty too- one of ours developed a fault just after 3 years.

Regarding cost to run I've nothing to compare to. But if you've no other option they are worth it for a good night's sleep- wouldn't be running them 24hrs a day though.

    • +2

I own this exact unit and have it behind my head while watching tv - i can deal with the noise to have my room be bearable throughout summer.
Totally worth it as far as i'm concerned - ALL portable air conditioners would be considered loud by most people, as they often comparing it to a fan, or regular air con where the compressor is outside the house and barely audible…

  • In regard to the noise, I assumed you all have either QC35 or WH-1000XM2, put it to good use.

  • Damn, i bought it at 339$

  • Drainage is it optional never had to drain my portable screen before

  • Am I missing something? Where's the free shipping?

    Power Input Cooling
    1370W
    Power Input Heating
    1200W

Someone explain to me how this is a 4.1kW unit then?

    • Electricity input vs cooling/heating capacity.

Take a 1200W bar heater for example. It will generate 1200W of heat. This air con will generate 4100W of heat while using the same 1200W as the bar heater.
      It’s 3.4 times more efficient.

Remember that air cons only move heat from one side of the unit to the other. The compressor only pumps gas around so the electricity to run the unit isn’t used to make heat.

      • How does that not break the law of conservation of energy? If i had a 100% efficient peltier element could I not generate 4100watts of eletrical energy more than the input amount?

    • These things are heatpumps. You put in 1200W they put out 4100W. The difference in heat is extracted from the air. This is sometimes called the "Coefficient of Performance". But CoP of 3.4 (4100/1200) is an exaggeration. In practise it's more like 1.6. Maybe under optimal conditions - perfect outside temp, perfect humidity - you might get 3.4.

Have two of older generation model. Been using one of them for over 5 years. Apart from noise and the inconvenience of window exit, no complaints. If you can’t go for split system for whatever reason, these are pretty good value IMO.

  • I got this on previous deal, lost out on $40 by not waiting for this :) using it now ask me anything https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/360493

  • :( looks. like the free shipping offer has expired

Literally it was sitting in my cart, I got the $50 voucher from ebay and suddenly.. BAM, shipping charge

    • Free delivery on their ebay store less 5% discount brings it down to $293.99. But yeah you won't be able to use the $50 voucher unfortunately.

Have a look at the Vostok deal too, $274.32 with free delivery from eBay. Or if you use your $50 voucher + discounted kogan giftcards, you may be able to get it cheaper depending on delivery charges from their website.

      • No worries, I ended up being a second hand Rinnai unit for $150 that came up on Gumtree
