Hi guys!

I'm doing this all on my iphone ;)

So I came across finder.com.au and when I scrolled down to Telcos, there was the Vodafone $40 Data Combo starter pack for $9.90. Cheapest I have seen it was $15 at the supermarket. I heard about finder.com.au via 9 news today.

I clicked on it and it transfers to the Voda website and see the deal only for $9.90 if you use the code FINDER. Seems to work. I'd buy it myself but I bought heaps of the $30 Data Combo package 9gb for $10 recently at Woolies.

My palms are sweating and i'm so nervous. What if the link I post doesn't work? I wasnt sure whether to post a picture or a link. What if someone already posted this? :) What if people think this deal is crap? Am I prepared to answer people's questions all night long? Lol i'll do my best

Will I be posting any other deals in the future? Nope, feel too much pressure! I'm happier sitting back and watching :)

Just checked back in and the new screen is saying:

“Request a call from our team.

If you’re after the latest Samsung Galaxy, please complete the form below. Our team will be in touch within 72 hours to complete your application. They’ll confirm your preference for colour and capacity, along with delivery dates. Your order won’t be complete until you’ve talked with our team……”

    Um … just me?

  • +1

    A juicy deal. Thank you

  • Now receiving this:

    “We’ll be back online soon.
We're currently experiencing technical difficulties with our online shop and are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible….”

Yup, sounds like we broke it. 😲

    • +1

Potentially due to galaxy s9 preorder updates

  • +1

    Working again. Cheers ordered one.

    • +1

I have ordered one too. Even if it does not work in our Vodafone wifi modem we can make good use of the data on our mobiles.

Thank you for sharing juicy j.

How long does the SIM card last one year? If it’s a year is this offer permanent? I might buy a lot and use them every month just for the data.

    • +1

I think one year without recharging. Offer not permanent and I recall it says only one per transaction. Hope i'm right! :)

    • I understand prepaid SIM cards will last one year from last recharge, so you only have to charge it only once a year, under that 12 months, you still have it activated … can still receive calls or make emergency calls if not in credit. Could request a usage sms (to 1512) and that usually gives you the expiry date of the SIM card. That updates every time you recharge it,

Had 3 Vodafone prepaid sims but we changed them over to Kogan 365 day prepaid plans recently.

      • I may have misunderstood your question.

When purchasing it says we must 'opt in' by 10/04/2018 and the next 2 recharges completed by 17/07/2018. So max time in use would be 17/07/2018 + 35 days.

Can we use this deal while i am an existing vodafone customer. I currently use vodafone prepaid, but am not sure if i can use this deal for this month.

    • +3

Well im an existing Vodafone customer, contract and prepaid for my 3 girls so yes! You can buy first and use later?

      • +1

I have a feeling it starts expiring from when it's purchased. Can you confirm or deny jj? It's a great deal but I think not for me, as I am not a current vodafone customer so not sure if I have to get on a contract first? then buy the $9.90 deal which I will not use at all, (about to go OS) and then add the roaming thing.
I will try the chat thing but I find all this stuff confusing as hell.
        Great deal though.

        • +1

For this particular offer 'Opt in' by 10/04/2018 and next 2 recharges (for this special offer of 18 GB) completed by 17/07/2018. After the 35 days from 17/07/2018, then the prepaid card would still be able to be recharged, (although no credit required to receive calls or dial emergency services), from 12 months of the last recharge. If not recharged (nil credit) for 12 months then the account is void. This is my understanding, but you can confirm when calling.

When you recharge you should receive a usage type sms that tells you the expiry date of your credit on the account. Or send blank (free) sms to 1512 (Vodafone usage) anytime and receive an update on the status.

Suggest set up a prepaid account when you have your mobile number organised, and once you can log in you can then recharge or add your roaming. Well that is what I would do. A phone call could do same I guess (1300 650 410). I always found Vodafone staff very polite and helpful in all the years I have been with them; still have one post paid account running.

I did not read anything to suggest you have to be a current Vodafone customer or not. Assume this is an offer from them to hopefully drum up some more business. They lost 2 of my prepaid accounts when I ported them over to Kogan for 365 day prepaid deals recently.

  • IMO, doesn't deserve as many votes for a pesty 1 month solution… Im so fed up with porting

    • +3

Then recharge normally like a pleb
      Or go onto post-paid
If you want cheap data you have to do the work

      • +1

The way I read it the first month $40 starter pack is on offer for the discounted price of $9.90 and if you activate that sim and opt in before the 10/04/2018

you will get bonus/double data for two extra re-charges before the 17/07/2018.

You will have to pay $40/$50 etc for the re-charges ( unless there is a % off recharge sale somewhere or you already purchased them discounted like an

        earlier poster here ).

        • Yes, you are quite correct.
Only $9.90 for first charge up.
Getting well ahead of myself lol!
          Thank you for correcting that.
          😣🔫

It is excellent value for $9.90 18 GB for 35 days. We only want to make use of it whilst travelling next month.

Charging up my old 4G WiFi modem …

        • +1

          @JediJan:

No worries. Just thought I'd point that out as for the next two months that would be $60 more, and for some people that

makes a big difference. Still a great deal and worth saving for a one off month. Personally, for your case to be used in

a modem, I would just buy a discounted cheap Vodafone multi sim and connect it with data only to be shure it works in

the modem. If you have ordered one already, when you receive it maybe confirm via call?live chat as you don't want to

stuff around on a day before your trip.

          @ozhunter68:

Yes, have asked OB to remove my previous comment, so hopefully have not confused anyone … too much.

Am not too concerned about whether my old Vodafone WiFi modem (have both 3G and 4G ones) will function with this new sim card or not, as I can make good use of it in my mobile next month. Would be cool if it did though! ☺

Quite a huge slice of Tasmania does not have Vodafone coverage so for a few days we may be without any internet access … have not told anyone here yet … 😉

        • @JediJan:

Haha, probably do kids/teenagers/adults the world of good to get out there and see the real world uninterrupted by internet ect.

I loved the way Vodafone did not USED to have expiry dates on their starter pack sims and also last few years brought

in their multi Phone/modem/tablet sims. That makes buying multiple discounted sims a no brainer for sim sluts or just

people wanting extra data/back up Voda service for their dual sim phone/spare phone/portable modem/tablet etc. If you

want to maximise the savings even more, then keep an eye on the current offers and try to activate when double data

deals are on. As far as the expiry date goes, that might have changed, the rest, wait and see. Telstra and Optus seem to

have wisened up to people buying discounted starter sim packs, and now mainly offering bonus data only on re-charges.

Thank God for Vodafone and Kogan for people who get decent reception/speeds with them lol

        • +1

          @ozhunter68:
Will do me the World of good too, not to be concerned with internet (don't even do Facebook) for a few days. Son cannot part with his laptop and iPad apparently lol. Well, at least plenty of games apps to keep him busy. Expected Tassie ferry would have provided free WiFi, but it is what it is I guess. They maximise their profits (several sites like YouTube blocked) this way.

We have been fortunate with good Vodafone reception over the years. Used to take WiFi modem with us on holidays which seemed to work everywhere. Only thing I really miss with NBN. Mobile NBN would be the way to go.

        • +1

          @JediJan:

Haha, mobile. Only getting it here in the Byron Bay shore late this year if we're lucky. Heck, even ADSL is fully booked out in my street so no dice with that. Why do you think I'm a sim slut lol.

        • +1

          @ozhunter68:
One of the first areas to have NBN (all the way) here. Not many of us bothered with landlines back then, as although only an hour south of Melbourne, we were charged STD rates to just about anywhere. So all were with these 'family & friends' type mobile packages. So, I guess it would have been pretty scandalous if we didn't have NBN priority. Mother, who lives fairly close, is still waiting for her NBN, and paying premium with all those extra data add-ons.

Shall test that sim card out in the modem when it arrives and let you know. Won't be betting on it though lol! Would come in fairly handy though with a phone navigation app, in those areas that get Vodafone coverage.

  • Struggling to see how this can be of use to postpaid subscriber who is finding difficult to even use up the 8gb per month allowance

    • +2

      It's not. It's for:

      • people on prepaid who can sim swap for cheaper recharges
      • postpaid people that want extra data than their allowance, don't want to pay the standard $10/GB for overuse, and have a modem dongle

      You aren't either of these

  • When's the last date till we have to activate the sim once we get it?
    i'm slightly confused.

    • Must opt in (activate) by 10/04/18 and complete the 2 next recharges (if you want to) by 17/07/18.

If you open the link just follow the prompts (and copy and insert the FINDER code); can read all the terms etc. there.

Or ring Vodafone (but note this is an online deal) 1300 650 410.

  • So is the 18Gb data a permanent deal?

    • +1

No. Special prepaid online offer only. Must be activated by 10/04/18, and the next 2 recharges by 17/07/18. It is initially the RED Combo $40 prepaid plan at a discounted price.

  • +1

Reckon I will get my simcard before Friday?

    • Received a couple of the Kogan ones within 2 days over Christmas, so I guess it is be possible, but probable? … fingies crossed.

  • +1

Isn't it a regular Vodafone Starter Pack like those found at Coles, demarcated only by value [$40]for any plan yet to be set? Just noticed online differentiating/calling these every offer/plan name that otherwise is selected by the user normally during activation. Past experience suggests support was available to assist any equivalent requested option (preferred to avoid this route though).

  • +2

Worth the risk for 35 days voice with $0.5 or $1/GB at worst, for the current combo.

Nice to see DATADAYL - the 1264 txt code 'Add on' for My Credit/ 365 Plus users - promo extended through April 2018, that's the least expensive Android/hotspot 4G within vodafon. Remember to add on 4(+4)GB from Fri+rollover again at Sunday early a.m, which wou check out to give up to 16gigs/$10 effective 4/7 days per week. Wonderful deal for heavy users.

  • +1

Hey Juicy J … not bad at all.
    Double century coming up!
    👏 🙌👏

  • Do I have to change my number for this deal? Sorry, I don't really understand how this stuff works haha.

    • +1

No. Can activate as new number for data only on your spare phone or just as spare new number with unlimited calls for 35 days.

    • Your choice, whether to use (port over) an existing mobile number from another company or choose a new number entirely. Vodafone and/or Kogan Mobile usually asks you if you already have 5 accounts. I don't know if they bother to check though. These are usually very simple online tasks, or if you have problems just ring them up and ask for help.

  • +3

Here We go, just voted the 200th
Unfortunately we don't have decent vodafone reception in our place, so have to pass… Great first post though

  • +1

Has anyone received their sim yet?

Interested to see if indeed it is a multi sim, meaning can be activated for calls/data in a phone OR data only in a modem/tablet.

    • +2

Received today. The pack says fits all phones, tablets and modems.

      • +1

        Thanks both for the response.

As I had heaps of sims up my sleeve, both data and phone I passed on this one, but feel sad I missed out on my favourite Voda multi sims. So far $15 is my best price for the $40, this was a real bargain.

Also currently double data if activate and opt in first week of April and two re-charges, so 18GB for $10 is unreal.

If you don't need to activate straight away for a modem/tablet, could even score a double data offer down the track lol.

I prefer the $50 starter packs ( half price or less of course, $20 now @ Coles ), as I can activate with double data offer when available, then get six months to use that 20GB.

  • +2

Affirmative, triple punch sim received today, same as at the supermarkets $40 pack, nothing changed, great.

  • Received ours yesterday; 5th March, so pretty quick really, by Toll courier; did not expect that.

"This sim works in all phones, tablets and modems."

Kool, but possible to use the very same sim card in multiple devices I wonder?

Purchased it primarily to use in a Vodaphone modem while on holidays. Son's mobile has just broke down though (sim card falling apart too), so waiting on a click and collect order from OfficeWorks for new mobile for me and he can then have my old one. He uses one of those cheap Kogan Mobile prepaid 365 day plans that was discovered on Ozbargain recently.

Looks like my new mobile will be available today so this Vodafone sim card may be useful while he waits for his replacement Kogan one.

I wonder if the same sim card could then be used in the modem.

    • +1

Yes it can be used in multiple devices. The SIMcard doesn't become 'locked' to your device.

      • Thank you. My phone was not ready to collect at OfficeWorks, and relying on that asap. Maybe tomorrow. Keen to try it out

Purchased Samsung Galaxy S7 on eBay OfficeWorks $599 (Same as BigW ad today). Signed on Cash Rewards first for the 1% cashback, then purchased @ $599 less 5% (Used code PICK5 on eBay; was advertised on OzBargain too) $29.95 = $569.05.

Still a lot of money for me but a better price than BigW atm that way. Other stores still showed $788 on the weekend (Good Guys and Vodafone. JBhifi had no stock and I dont want non-Aus or refurbished etc.). I would have thought these older model mobiles would have dropped much more though with the S9 out now.

  • Oh crap. I choose data instead of voice.
Now it seems I've only got 10gig and 30 days.
    Can I fix this?

    • +1

I haven't been in that situation before so call up Vodafone and ask? I'm curious too

      • +1

Gotta buy another $2- sim, activate it then call up for them to transfer credit over. I think that's what the fella said.
Either way could not be bothered, so will settle with the 10gig, 30day expiry.
