Hi guys!

I'm doing this all on my iphone ;)

So I came across finder.com.au and when I scrolled down to Telcos, there was the Vodafone $40 Data Combo starter pack for $9.90. Cheapest I have seen it was $15 at the supermarket. I heard about finder.com.au via 9 news today.

I clicked on it and it transfers to the Voda website and see the deal only for $9.90 if you use the code FINDER. Seems to work. I'd buy it myself but I bought heaps of the $30 Data Combo package 9gb for $10 recently at Woolies.

My palms are sweating and i'm so nervous. What if the link I post doesn't work? I wasnt sure whether to post a picture or a link. What if someone already posted this? :) What if people think this deal is crap? Am I prepared to answer people's questions all night long? Lol i'll do my best

Will I be posting any other deals in the future? Nope, feel too much pressure! I'm happier sitting back and watching :)

  • Is it only for the 1st month? How much it will cost on 2nd month and onward?

    • +22

It's for the purpose of sim slutting, you just port to another sim once its expired.

      • Data pack only why port to another sim once its expired?

        • +1

Its not just data. Unlimited calls included

      • Port to Kogans free 23Gb

        • Can you port within Vodafone and still be eligible for the Kogan deal? I thought you had to port from a carrier from outside of the Vodafone network.

        • @BuzzBuzzBuzz: no you can’t

        • @BuzzBuzzBuzz:
Bleh I forgot. Guess you’ll need to find an Optus or Telstra carrier service to switch between then.

        • @NoDiggerty:
          yes, you can.

      • +1

        This is what I do

      • +1

Sim slutting ….must remember that one

      • +1

        sim slutting, love it

      • +1

I've been a Sim slut for 3 months now thanks to ozbargain regular sim deals

      • can you port twice straight away, or is there like a 1 day wait between porting?

    • +1

Yes, I think its only for the first month. After 35 days it expires.

  • +10

I just gave you a charity upvote for encouragement juicy.

Just joking…very good first up deal.

    • +3

Wooo yayyy! I feel some relief now ;P
How do people do it so effortlessly and the deal they post always looks so pretty with links, tags and pictures. this page looks so ..

  • +4

Anyone know when the expiry is to activate? Was thinking about hopping to this after my kogan deal.

    • +3

Sorry dear I have no idea! I just tried looking at the TC's but couldn't see anything stating that! :( I'm terrible at this

      • +7

No that’s completely fine! Thank you for posting, it’s a great deal! I’m sure someone else will chime in.

        • +11

Thanks dear. Would you like some covfefe?

        • +7

As far as I understand and from lot's of experience as a sim slut, Vodafone does not have an expiry date on their sims ( although some older ones had a 2yr. limit from manufacture date according to some posters ), and out of more than 60 various Voda sims have always been able to activate.

On the other hand, the double data offer ends on the 05/03/2018, so activate on or before to take advantage of that :-)

What I am wondering is if this is one of their newer multi sim packs that we could also activate for data only in a portable wifi?

        • +2

          @ozhunter68:

Damnit! I’m happy that there’s no expiry but the double data is a bit annoying, my Optus $30 p/m plan ends on the 28/3 so was gonna port to kogan then to this.. I’m sure something else will come up after this lol

        • +2

@ozhunter68: I had a voda Sim that was more than 2 yrs old that could not be activated. It was a $2 Sim with nice number. No expiry date on the pack.

        • +3

          @BrodenIt: everyone wants covfefe

        • +4

Hi can I ask you guys something? Can ppl actually edit and fix and pretty up my post?? That is amazing lol How and who do I thank? I know for sure I didn't post a link and I did take a screen shot on my phone haha so Thank you to whoever that pimped out my page ;)

        • +3

          @juicy j:

Yep the moderators and power users can edit deals, you can see here who edited your post and what they did!

        • +3

          @slowFTL:

Sure, I did read about that somewhere here on one of the Vodafone posts and hence I added that to my comment above. As I mainly ( 99% ) activate new sims with included credit ( starter sim pack ) always heavily discounted of course, I have never been declined activation from Vodafone.

Although those old cheap $5 for $50 sims sold by Harvey Norman last year can only be activated for mobile phones/calls & data and not suitable for data in modems if I remember correctly.

        • +1

@slowFTL: I think the SIM cards have an expiry date of 12 months but don’t believe anything I say.

        • +1

@JediJan: yes you are right, I think voda recently set a 1 yr expiry on their starter sims, although the $2 sim I had did not have an expiry date. With reference to ozhunter68, I think you will not have any problems activating voda sims within 1 yr of purchase and heavily discounted sims are great! Lol!

        • -8

          @slowFTL:

I had a voda Sim that was more than 2 yrs old that could not be activated. It was a $2 Sim with nice number. No expiry date on the pack.

That's also because Vodafone Australia send out packs with faulty activation codes and they still do it after the problems in November and December last year. The staff don't care and won't help you with this problem.

        • They do expire ….numbers are recovered and then go to new sims.

        • +1

@garage sale: they don’t come with numbers. You do that when you activate.

        • +1

@ozhunter68: no the half price offer ends then. The double data offers ends 17/7 but you have to opt in by 10/4.

        • @wxyz234:

          Yes, my mistake.

  • +11

Aww so cute. Posting your first bargain was like a first kiss. Don't ever take the feeling for granted! Treat your bargain good!

    • +3

But usually first kisses are terrible? Sloppy? Lol

      • +10

        My first was juicy

        • -1

          Was it with Biggie Smallz?

      • Did you get first kiss from your mom or your doggie?

        • First kiss from a fellow Kindergartener ;)

        • Did you get your first kiss in USA or Australia?
Or is it all gravy in the navy?

      • good kisses = maximum saliva transfer

  • +4

Thanks! Just to share, Kogan is selling 32gb for first month , cost $7.90

    • +3

Ooh thats a very good deal! Thanks for sharing! Sharing means caring haha

      • If you're interested, better buy from Kogan soon. I guess this promotion ends on 28-feb

    • +1

As you probably already know, was Free until the Saturday, sim slut heaven lol.

      • +1

Hhaha yes, it was free 23gb. Purchased and use it for data

        • +1

Same. Got a few, so porting from Optus to Kogan for the month, and a few more just for extra data in second sim slot and other

phones. If only Vodafone/Kogan has better signal here where I live I could fully maximise this deal even better lol.

        • +2

          @ozhunter68:

Enjoy free data for two months!

  • +1

HI guys, hope someone can advise me on this. I need to get roaming data for an upcoming trip, and I know Vodafone has a $5 per day (only on days you are using it). So could I get the above deal and then add this roaming to it? I mean I will call them tomorrow but just wonder if anyone has done this with Vodafone.
    Thanks

    • +1

      Yes you can.

      • +1

The roaming deal with voda is where they beat telstra and optus …. Some people who travel os alot use voda for that reason ….

      • Could you tell me how to activate the roaming with this prepaid sim? How to pay for the roaming, how much it will cost?
        Thanks

        • I would do it online.

    • +1

Sorry love I've never done that before so I can't help you. I usually alwats buy a sim at my holiday destination. Hello can someone help this young lady please?!!! Since op is terrible ;)

    • +1

Yeah, I have done this before, I usually add a Pre-paid plan to my normal contract to increase my data and then use the $5 roaming, as I have found that paying $5 is better and cheaper if u just need the internet. Also if ur travelling to NZ, there is no charge so its actually free, just like using your plan.

      • We used to be on 3 before it sold out to Vodafone. Some 3 reciprocal arrangement meant there were no roaming charges or $5 per day, in any of the countries visited. Just had to remember to drop the first 0 when ringing a mobile and add the country code. This was many, many years back when we were all on postpaid plans. Although we did not push the limits, expecting hefty bill if we did (most calls were much more expensive back then), the calls from 3 to 3 phones were free. $5 does sound really good, but the way I look at it, was free before so would be really nice if that was brought back again.

    • Before I answer your question, can you please confirm whether you're a dude or dudette?

      • +1

        Who me? Dudette lol

    • Have you confirmed if you can use this sim for roaming?
I will go to Poland in April, not sure the condition there? Can I pay $5 for roaming with this prepaid there?

If yes, how to activate and pay for the roaming?

      Thanks.

      • I think the time starts from when you pay for it. So you won't get the double data thing.
I'm going to the website and chat and if I find useful info I will post it here. Otherwise you might need to call them.

  • +3

Thanks JJ! Was hoping for cheap voda Sim to use with discounted recharge bought last year. Good post!

    • +5

Thankssss! Woo! You are welcome! Sorry im just on a high, my first ever post and ppl are actually commenting! its so exhilarating lol

      • +1

And look at your upvotes. 160+ already. Well done you.

  • Think I can Port a prepaid broadband number (data only) to a differrent provider and work (calls and SMS)?

I like my broadband number and will be sim slutting until a great deal comes up that's a perm plan for a decent price each month.

    • +3

Absolutely! Just make sure your name and birthday matches.

      • +1

Thank you, wil, attempt once my current data is over for the month and see how it goes

  • +1

Good price but not as good as $50 vf starter pack at harvey norman just few months ago and $50 vf starter gor just $1 at coles express approx 1 year ago

    • +1

Yeah I bought some of those! Maybe one day this will be $1 too ;)

  • +1

    Well done!

    • +1

Thank you so much :) clapping my hands

  • +2

i personally prefer this one since porting numbers to wholesalers is sometimes pain in the ass. btw, well done!

    • +1

      thanks! hi five!

  • +1

Thank you for sharing juicy j.

Sounds pretty good. I looked on Vodafone website on the weekend and the offer then was half price $20 month for (double data) 18 GB, which I thought good, and then same again for next two recharges until 17th July:

    https://www.vodafone.com.au/prepaid/plans/deal

Not sure if the next 2 recharges is covered by this $9.90 FINDER offer.

    Ps. Question please.

If I put one of these Vodafone SIM cards in a Vodafone wifi modem would it work the same as if I put it in a mobile?
(I retained our old 3G and 4G modems we used until I switched over to NBN and Belong wifi.).

Going to Tassie next month (much of the isle is not covered by Vodafone) and one may come in handy to use when we can pick up the signal.

Pps. Apparently there is wifi (but not free) on the Tasmanian ferry but you have to pay a fee for either 3 hours or all day. Do other mobiles work okay or no signal crossing Bass Strait?

    • +1

Umm.. I have no idea. I think so. Well, I bought the $30 Data combo pack 9gb data at woolies for $10, and it says it fits phones tablets and modems? Is that what u mean?

When you do activate, they do ask if you want data only for modem or a talk/data combo..

Hope this helps? I'm not really an expert ozb lol

      • That does sound like it does, and being that I have Vodafone wifi modems it should be compatible. For $10 it is not much to lose at all if it doesn’t, and $18 GB should come in handy while we are travelling. Not all places we are staying at while on holiday offer free wifi either. Will be a fun experience with son finding out no internet for a few days while we travel about lol. Thank you!

        • +1

Ur welcome! Happy safe travels!! Lucky much!! ;)

        • +1

If this is indeed a newer multi sim for both mobile phones as well as for modems/tablets etc ( most likely ), then the current offer for data for a $40 sim pack is 10GB/30 Day exp. still good for $10 me thinks.

        • @ozhunter68: Even better; it appears to be a 35 day recharge plan; $40 Data Combo Starter Pack that was half price $20 on the weekend:

          https://www.vodafone.com.au/prepaid/plans/deal

        • +1

          @JediJan:

Yep, 35 day expiry activated for calls/data for mobile phones, but only 30 days for modem/tablet data and only 10GB.

        • +1

@ozhunter68: Did wish to primarily use a sim in our old Vodafone wifi modem. I thought that the same applied. So, if I just put it in my mobile phone (but not the wifi modem) I could get the 18 GB for $9.90 but not if I put it in the modem? Just wanted the extra data only for a week in March. I guess I could buy 2 for the wifi then $19.80 for 20 GB. Still pretty good too. Am not up with these SIM cards for data, even though we used Vodafone wifi for many years before NBN.

        • +1

          @JediJan:

To be sure, someone who has a recent Vodafone sim activated for a mobile phone with calls/data could try putting that in a modem to try and rapport back. Maybe now it does work.

Telcos change policies occasionally, or older sims like the cheap HN Voda sims have limits ( they are my most recent Voda activations for phone ).

You can put Kogan sims ( also use Voda network ) activated for calls/data into a modem, so it can be done.

        • +2

@ozhunter68: On 4 previous occasions, I had to buy a $2 dollar sim, each time, then I rung Voda support and they activate the $2 sim first on data only and then they activated the Compo sim for data only on the $2 dollar sim to use as data only, you loose the call credits,…. That was last Oct to Jan last month… I don't think it has changed since last month…..

        • +1

          @arodes:

Wow! Well there you go, that's a new one for me. Another way to get this result.

So to be clear, what type of sim starter pack ( age and value ) did you have to start off with?

And the result is Voda call/live chat will transfer the data only ( not calls ) from the old starter pack to the new $2 sim to use as data only in a modem/tablet/computer. Correct?

        • +1

@ozhunter68: I am still looking for the old WiFi modem; have both 3G and a 4G as I used to use Vodafone WiFi broadband for years until NBN arrived. I do have them still but I put things away pretty well lol. 🤔

        • +1

@ozhunter68: Just a normal $2 Voda starter sim card, no money value, Voda have to activate this as Broadband sim first then they will activate the Combo sim as Data only on the $2 sim card…… and yes you loose call/sms credit, I only wanted Data so it was OK for me.

        • @arodes:

Cheers. What I wanted to know is what kind of sim/starter pack did you have to begin with ( not the $2 blank sim you use to transfer to )?

I have some of the older $50 starter packs from the H.N. deal but those are not multi sims that you can choose for data to activate online through their website. Maybe I can use live chat to do what you did with these too.

  • +1

Coles have these for $10 at the moment too…

    • +2

That's $30 data combo pack, yeah I got those from Coles too 3 days ago. :) So cheap but this is $9.90 for the $40 Data Combo

      • +2

        Great post OP.

As far as I know this is the lowest prices seen for the $10 for the $40 packs widely available and even delivered ( except for those crazy Coles Express & HN limited deals ). Downside is Limited to 1 per person ( unless you can get around that of course lol ).

Looks like they are matching an offer from Optus also for $10 for their $40 starter packs delivered some months ago.

They will be $15 this week @ Coles from Wednesday if you want more or instantly.

        • +2

Thanks! Yes, its the lowest I have ever seen it! But I still had doubts! What if someone has posted this much of a low deal before? I'd be the laughing stock of the whole ozbargain website because I did say its the lowest price I've seen for the $40 Data combo pack.

Yes not as good as the crazy $50 pack from HN/Coles Express few months ago haha

I purchase these heaps as I have 3 daughters in high school and also, I learnred what slim slutting is from u guys! ;) Feel abit smarter now!

  • +3

I'm trying to view my cart but there is a countdown clock for 12AM AEST with the text "we're getting ready for something big". Anyone else have the same?

  • +2

Good find OP but looks like Vodafone site is being upgraded so have to wait 32 more min

    • +1

      oh what a bummer

      • +1

        Same here. 😲

23 mins and counting. OzBargain may have blown up the site tonight lol!

After hitting add to cart, it now says Request a call from our team about a new Samsung Galaxy.

    • Do we get a free phone too? Lol. 🤣
