  • 5gb just added - 6th time lucky :)

    • did u keep enquiring on internet?

      • Correct, new rep each time with varying levels of no and then a straight yes

    • Do you have more than one service with Telstra or just this deal? I only have one service with them and they told me the deal was for customers with multiple services - what did you say to get it?

      • It should come standard, the guy at Telstra store simply said - "and we have a 5GB bonus going on at the moment, bringing your total up to 20GB" without me having to say anything.
Alternatively, just go on online chat and say something along the lines of 'I heard there was an offer for a bonus 5GB for existing customers"
Funnily enough it comes up as a "multiple service bonus" despite me only having one service.

Also, I signed up on a business plan and if I take out a data share sim for $5/month (I can cancel at any time), he'll put another 5GB on making it a total of 25GB.

  • telstra shop elizabeth st said the deal is over for telstra. went to jbhifi atarmon which had 7 in stock and picked one up.

    • Definitely had Telstra try to tell us it ends in March but the JB Hi Fi guy was kind enough to print out the full Ts & Cs of the deal including the end date (which lines up with what is stated in the listing, 30/4). Telstra just want to shut down this deal because it was never meant to be public but as it was leaked to OzBargain it had to be honoured

      • +1

It was on there landing page as reported in other posts.

So calling bull on the OZB excuse.

Got one for the Mrs on Sunday at JB Hifi Malaga (WA), they had a few in stock and all went smoothly.

Went online today and got Bonus 5GB first go on live chat. I selected Mobile on a Plan and Other Enquiries.

  • Grabbed a 2 xl from Bourke St JB today.

    • Did you end up receiving a Goggle home mini + Headphones? asking as I am contemplating on purchasing it at JB bourke street tomorrow.

      • Yes came with both of those. Also got 5GB extra free, chatted with billing rep and said I'd heard they are giving 5gb to loyal customers and would like it added to my account

  • +1

Just picked mine up today at JB. Got home and went on Telstra online support, they had no problem giving me the extra 5gb.

    • Just wondering how you asked for extra GB as I am thinking to do the same thing tomorrow, did you use just went on live chat and flat out asked for it? and also did you receive the home mini and earphone bundle?

  • I'm porting to optus hoping to get this deal

  • Thanks to all those who made me aware of this great deal.

I was on Telstra pre-paid which means I was not eligible.

So I bought a $10 vodafone prepaid sim and ported my number across. Whilst the number transfers across very fast, it can take up to 48hrs (mine did) to be taken off Telstra's system, which it needs to be for the port in deal to work.

Once that's done you can sign up and take the phone.

JBHiFi were kind enough to put the phone on hold for me for the 48hrs once they could see I had ported across to vodafone.

JBHiFI World Square Sydney is where I got mine 2 days ago. The mobile guy Nick is really helpful. Came with Google Home Mini and headphones (earbud style, they are ok).

Getting the extra 5GB was very easy, did it thru Telstra chat. Just said Ive been a long time user (which I have), and that I heard there was a loyalty reward. Tried to push for more than 5GB but no luck.

Still, cracking deal, I'm stoked considering I was paying Telstra 50$/month for 8GB prepaid and running out every 3 weeks. So I effectively more than doubled my data and got a free 1000$ phone + 100$ extras.

FYI Another option at JB is to go Telstra 12 months 49$ BYO w/25GB + $200 JBHiFi voucher, thats a good deal too.

  • Hi All,

Bit of a loophole I have found - and works from experience.

If you are already a Telstra customer and you are out of contract but want to keep your number you can still pick up this deal…..its just a bit of running around.

Go past Coles, buy an optus SIM, activate the sim with your real details - otherwise Telstra will have issues porting it over.

Go past JB/Telstra (I went to JB) and ask to sign up by porting in your newly acquired Optus SIM.

    Now for the fun part..
I did this a couple of days later, however I see no reason why you wouldn't be able to do this as soon as you get home….

Go on the Telstra 24/7 chat and ask for your old number to be moved across to your new plan. - (when you do this, to avoid the endless loop of their bot, select that you want to talk to them about a new plan)

They will cancel your old plan to 'release' your number from the account (it then goes into a 'hold' area for 30 days. When its in this 'hold' status, they can bring it back across to your new contract). The person I spoke to first mentioned that I may need to contact them again - He was going to place notes on my account so i didn't have to explain myself - as this process may take from 30 mins to 24 hours, however he later informed me that they will do it as soon as they were able to.

Sure enough….approx 1 hour later, I had my old number back across on my new plan. They even called me to let me know the change had been made.

    Good Luck all!!!

    • Why not just port to Optus then port back to Telstra? I did that, less headache.

      • What timeframes did you do this over? Port to port? What optus plan did you port to?

        Thanks

        • I ported to a $10 optus sim I bought (might be able to do it with $2 sim not sure).

Then I tried porting back to Telstra, failed for several days. It was still showing as an active telstra number.

I went on telstra live chat and asked them to deactivate my number. Within 24 hours it was free from Telstra and I ported back.

          Good luck!

  • Ported out from Telstra pre-paid to Optus pre-paid. I was knocked back by JB Hi-Fi in Woden (apparently have to be on Optus for a month)… not sure what to do now.

    • "if at first you don't succeed, try try again" maxchange.

      • Trying a different store, not looking good at this stage.

    • Was it the store or the Telstra system that knocked you back?

      • +1

The first JB store had to call a call centre. The guy on the phone said that because I've only just ported out (2 days ago), I'm not eligible. He said to try again after a month…

The second JB store still has my account showing an active Telstra prepaid service, even though that number was ported out to Optus. Guess I'll try again in a few days and hope it works.

        • +1

The number is in the Telstra system for upto 48 hours before the port is complete even though you are working fine on the other provider. Supposedly the number can stay in the system for 30 days. Another option is to chat online and get Telstra to cancel your Telstra number which is supposed to force complete the porting process, yet make sure the port is successful on the other provider first or you could lose your number.

I got stuffed around by a Telstra store not knowing their own system, maybe 6 hours later and several online chats with transfers to other people I got it sorted. Sometimes I would like to invoice companies that screw me around for lost time and money while fixing something they screwed up. Went to a JB store and they are bending over backwards to help. No prize yet but looks promising.

        • @groveraus:

So, I asked Telstra to finalise the (to Optus) port and remove the existing number/service from their system.

Went into JB Hifi today and walked out with a Pixel 2 XL! Very happy :)

EDIT: Got the extra 5GB via Telstra Chat with no issues.

        • @j4ck: Did you go back to the same JB? or a different one?

        • @lemonever:

          Same one.

        • @j4ck: Thanks j4ck. Funny how they said 30 days but if the number isn't on Telstra system anymore then they don't really check for the 30 days. I might port out and back in too. Hopefully there's still stock. Enjoy your new phone!

        • @lemonever:

Ah, sorry. Let me clarify. I mentioned two stores in my story (Woden and Belconnen).

Woden knocked me back because I said I had only been with Optus for a few days. He didn't bother to check the Telstra system.

Belconnen actually checked the system and showed me that my number was still there. After I got Telstra to finalise the port out, I went back to the Belconnen store!

        • +1

@j4ck: Right, so still kinda depends on the store/salesrep, that's good to know.

        • @j4ck:

Well done, what actual words did you use to get them to complete the port? and through which chat area? (assume online chat)

Telstra have been dicking me around a little (lot) (as per usual), and seem to be gettign this "do not understand what you actually want me to do? Can I interest you in foxtel?)

        • +1

          @quog:

If you can get onto the pre-paid team (via chat or phone), I'd ask them to "finalise your port-out request" and for them to send you a "Port Out Notification" email.

        • +1

          @j4ck:
          great, thanks.

  • Got the pixel 2xl from bourke/swanston telstra shop today.
Got the mini + headphones. (already sold the mini to a colleague as i have one :) )
On telstra chat now trying my luck with the extra data.

    • +2

Got the bonus data with no issues on live chat !

    • Were you existing telstra number?

      • +1

        No ported from Vodafone

Does anyone have some suggestions for some good value USB C earphones?

Was pretty disappointed to open the bundled set and notice they were 3.5mm

    • I googled this the other day and apparently there really isn't much out there

      • :(

Might have to wait for xiaomi, blitz wolf or tronsmart etc to bring them out

        • There is actually a Xiaomi one which I'm using now. A bit expensive but the noise cancelling is quite good for a headphone this size. Sound is not too shabby either

Here is the headphone on Gearbest, other shops should have it as well
          (https://www.gearbest.com/earbud-headphones/pp_636900.html)

        • @lbsyc:

They are a bit exxxy… i might keep an eye on them or reach out to a rep to see if they can do a deal :)

          Thanks for the heads up

    • +1

Why? Doesn't the usbc to 3.mm dongle work? Or does it introduce a background noise?

      • +2

It’s just an inconvenience that’s all

    • It's a mess… Google have really dropped the ball on this..

      https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2017/11/10/16633516/…

      • Wow, didn't realise the dongle was so damn large. Thought was same as apples.

Still waiting on stock to do the deal.

      • Yeh, it really could be 2 plugs back to back, no need for it to be so big

      • what i got from that article was that a Gearbest order was received before 2 weeks!

      • And here's the kicker - you can't even use another smaller adapter as it doesn't recognise it.

I just signed up to this deal this afternoon, at the JB Hifi in Westfield Sydney city. The guy told me they had three left, and I took two - a black one for myself and a black/white one for my wife.
I haven't tried asking Telstra for the bonus 5Gb yet. Will do so tonight.

    • Without your wife present?

      • +1

Correct. However both numbers are under the same account, under my name. So she didn't need to be present.

        • Did exactly the same thing. Black one for me and white for my wife. Ask for extra 5Gb for each number.

  • I'm a little confused, with regard to the 5GB bonus data quota. Have seen mentioned a few times that this is supposed to be a loyalty reward?
If so, how are people asking for it? Given I only just signed up on this $59 plan (porting from Optus) and am obviously not a loyal customer (yet).

    • +1

Not sure what it is but the advice of "ask and you shall receive" applies here. If the first rep doesn't give it, try again and eventually someone will add it. I asked them if they can throw it in since I signed up 2. The first rep I chatted to added it.

      • +1

Went on online chat last night and got the 5GB bonus easily. Thanks guys.

    • I was told via LiveChat that it was welcome data for new customers (5GB).

  • Thanks for posting this deal. Just walked into my local JB store and signed up and picked it up on the spot with the google mini and aiaiai headphones. Going to try for bonus 5gb data through the online chat now.

    • Just spoke to someone through the Telstra Live Chat and he applied the extra 5GB after about 5mins of checking… I've only got the 1 telstra account.

  • i did a live chat order for the pixel 2xl 64gb from telstra 2 days ago and even though we ended up doing the $59 p/m plan the agent said there is no google mini/headphones included with it and that the phone of was out of stock and i would have to wait 1 month…

it's interesting because as soon as i mentioned the deal he made some unprofessional remarks about whirlpool and ozbargain. initially he said they were out of stock and that i had to wait a month but i got the phone 2 days later…bit misleading and he probably wanted me to close the chat lol

    • did u get thru with google mini and headphones after u signed up thru chats?

  • +1

Phone died the other day and borrowed a friends Jelly-Pro, thank you but needed my glasses just to make out the text on the screen. So purchased a Prepaid SIM from Optus for $10, ported the Telstra number over. Tried doing the deal at JB's the next day but the Telstra system still had the number in the records. A couple of days latter got an email from Telstra saying the number had beet ported. Went in to JB and did the deal for a Panda Pixel 2 XL, build date 26 Feb 2018, 3 weeks and 5 days old. I can now read the phone without glasses. I like it.

  • Got a black Pixel 2XL from JB Hifi Canberra Centre on Friday afternoon. Existing Telstra customer - ported out out to Amaysim prepaid on Wednesday morning (so it was around 55hrs between porting out and porting back in). No issues at all. Came with free google home mini and earphones. There were at least 4 other people doing the same thing.
Went on Telstra live chat and asked if I was eligible for the 5GB loyalty bonus and the guy said yes I'm eligible and applied it straight away - you get a SMS when it goes through.

  • Picked one up from JB Hi-Fi @South Wharf, I got that last 'Just Black', but plenty of Panda's in stock, comes with the Home Mini and Earphone bundle too!

  • Went on Telstra live chat today and checked the three mobile accounts asking for if I was eligible for the 5GB loyalty bonus and the guy said yes I'm eligible and applied it to all 3 numbers. Could not have been easier.

    • Lucky you. I was told I'd have to re-contract to get it, and pay a contract termination fee.
      No consistency.

  • Anyone else have a really hard time getting this deal? Firstly I had issues finding stock in western Sydney. And then I had issues with multiple accounts being created under my name from Live Chat, resulting in my online order being cancelled. I even went into a Telstra store with my drivers licence, medicare card, electricity bill and rates notice to get this sorted, last Monday 19/03. And I am still getting the run around from the Control Group at Telstra as they need to do some more verification! I think it is all too difficult and feel like giving up and getting the $69/month Samsung S9 Optus deal.

    • +1

Order it from live chat. The deal is on till the 30th. They will say that this deal has been extended so you won't get the Google home mini and the headphones, but the reality is that this is a prekitted product which comes along with everything. The online ordering process should take you 15 mins. I received mine yesterday, it comes via the overnight grade of service and will come next business day if you place the order by 1pm. And don't forget to ask for the extra 5g, they will add this during signup.

      • Thanks, 30th April not 30th March (tomorrow) right? I'm waiting for a call back from the Control group today. If they don't call by noon I will have to call them.

I need to get the multiple accounts under my name issuedm sorted first so best not to order online. I've googled it and there are others that have got stuck in this control group nightmare. Telstra won't deal with you until it is sorted, even cancelling people's accounts (for existing customers).

        • Went to Telstra store who had stock of the phone, went through the order process, and then they call Control Group, and it is still not sorted, their "Analyst" needs more time. Walked away from Telstra store empty handed :(

  • Just signed-up. Question; is the plan suppose to be called Go Mobile Plus BYO or Friends and Family, or are they actually the same? Also anyone got a customer receipt for $1416 with tax stated?

    • +1

Got mine from JB yesterday. In the Telstra app it comes up as "Go Mobile Plus BYO" but the JB sales order says "$59 Friends & Family Go Mobile BYO Plan - M - 24 Months", so I assume it's the same thing, haven't checked the details though. And yes my receipt also says $1416 with tax, it's just the $59 x 24.

  • has anyone who signed up for this plan got an extra 5gb if this is the only service they have with telstra?

    • Yes

    • Yup got the phone from JB, and got the extra 5gb from Telstra 24x7 chat as soon as I got home, no issues at all.

      • What exactly did you ask them online? Did you literally just ask for an extra 5gb?

        • +1

Originally I got a bot and I tried saying "Hi, I'd like to activate the 5GB MULTI Product Bonus on my account", bot didn't understand but then when I got put through to an agent they saw what I said to the bot and said "As I understand you want the bonus data?"

Just keep trying if you get turned down at first, as others have said it seems to depend on who you get on the other end.

      • +1

When I have done the same thing, I get nothing but excuses why they cannot give me the 5GB bonus, including having to pay a ~$700 contract termination fee.

    • Yes - had to try online chat a few times but got it eventually.

    • no luck for me, also couldn't get $10 credit

      • //update finally got the $10 discount (I think slightly later hours have better success rate) will try again later for 5gb but don't have any existing products with Telstra.

  • This is a great deal. I ordered the deal from Telstra online chat on Monday and received my order on Thursday. Tried online chat a few times and eventually got the bonus 5gb of data per month added to my account. Sold the phone on Gumtree today for $950. I wanted $1k for it but close enough. Brings my monthly plan cost down to just under $20 a month for 20gb. Less if you factor in the 6 months free Apple Music.

  • +11

Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but Telstra do a $10 discount for porting customers. I just mentioned it to the online chat and they applied the discount. If my understanding is correct, that should bring the plan down from $59/month to $49/month for the duration of the plan. Also managed to get the 5gb bonus so this is a really sweet deal!

    • That's awesome! What did you say to get the extra $10 off per month?

      • I just said when I was enquiring about signing up to a new telstra plan last week, the online chat rep said there's a $10 discount on plans for all porting customers (this actually happened). Mentioned it to the online chat just then and they applied the discount, no questions. Must be a standard discount they offer on other plans, works in our favour with this plan!

        • You've done very well! I just tried then and they said I need to call their sales teams as apparently the billing team doesn't have access to the discount, but they confirmed it should work fine. Thank you for the heads up!

        • Aw damn I just signed up on this deal haha. I'm assuming it'd be too late to ask now? :(

        • Nah, jump onto the online chat and just mention the bonus for customers porting into Telstra! I did it 2 days after I signed up to the plan at JB.

        • @bloum:

Just tried and the agent only mentioned an extra 15GB of data on the $49 plan or something in regards to a bonus for customers porting to Telstra, will try again later.

Anyone else having any luck with this?

        • @peco:

Nah, Manish had no idea what I was talking about. Reckons I need to go back to the store to have the credit applied :S

        • @j4ck:

I just finished talking to a different guy, this guy did it for me. Have to wait until the bill comes, fingers crossed.

I started off by asking "I heard there's a $10 discount for people who port to Telstra, is this true?" and then when he confirmed it's true I asked if he could apply it to my account since I just ported over a few days ago.

        • [@bloum]: Thanks so much for the tip, just signed up a couple of days ago and saw your comment, then hopped straight onto chat. First guy I spoke to from billing and apparently have applied the $10/m discount. I will wait until tomorrow to ask for the extra GB's as I feel bad doing it all in one go. Fingers crossed the discounts are applied, thats another saving of $240 off 24 month if all goes according to plan!
