Dog/Cat Teeth Cleaning

Hi all,

Just wondering approx how much you've paid for a teeth cleaning for a dog or cat? We have a 9yr old dog, and a 12yr old cat (both recently adopted). We've been told their teeth need a good cleaning.

An approximate range would be great, as I know it depends on the condition of the teeth etc.

Secondly, if anyone can recommend a vet for teeth cleaning around Sydney, that would be amazing. We're based in Northern Sydney, but happy to travel for something affordable!

Thanks in advance.

  • They would need to be sedated, so budget around $200 per animal. But depends on size as the sedation is based on weight

    • They're both on the small size. $200 seems great - I've heard it's much higher than this!

      • $200 is quite modest, but vet will need to grade their teeth first. If it's gotten bad, expect to pay at least twice that.

      • If you find a vet that does it for $200, book it in straight away.
From what I understand, animals need a GA to have their teeth done properly (they can still bite under sedation as I found out from trying to give my sedated dog a hair cut).
I'd imagine GA alone would cost at least $200, especially for an older animal (if not more).
My vet charged about $400 for a scale and clean for my otherwise healthy cat. There probably are cheaper vets, but do the savings justify sending your fur child to someone you don't know?

    • Using xiaomi toothbrush?

  • My cat had his teeth cleaned last year for $500. Most vets should be able to do this.

    • What condition were your cat's teeth in? And how old are they? Ouch at $500 though.

      • Cat was 8yo. Had plaque on his teeth - don't know how bad it was though.
My other cat also had his teeth cleaned at 8yo a few years ago and had to have a tooth removed as well. I think the total was about $600 then.

  • I'd ask at couple of vets. The prices aren't going to vary that much I wouldn't think.

  • Got a 5 year old greyhound 28KG teeth descaled as well as 3 teeth removed cost $780 - not cheap

  • Around $300 for a pug here.

  • Take your nonhumans for a drive to visit vet out west to save hundreds of dollars.

  • have you talked to the RSPCA to find out their price? Our vet has us cleaning our cats teeth to stop the tartar building up.

  • Just wondering approx how much you've paid for a teeth cleaning for a dog

$0, I don't feed my dog crap like kibble and canned food which cakes on their teeth and gums and causes plague and disease.

And I give him bones every second day, his teeth and gums are perfect.

There is no reason why your dog should ever need their teeth cleaned.

  • Have you ended up going somewhere, and can I ask where?
