  • Are they region free like the old DVD Players?

    • They are region free for DVD.
      Region B for Blu-Ray.

  • Any special just for the player?

    • Pioneer BDP-180

Comes down to $236 after 20% off.

  • Nice receiver. Most receivers are unnecessarily high given that not everyone has full-sized speakers. Pity the THD is so high.

    • The value "80 W/ch (4 ohms, 1 kHz, THD 1.0 %, 1ch Driven)" is the 'fake' power rating.

Most speakers for home will be 8 ohms. So they use 4 ohm to make it look 2x more powerful along with showing the single channel power. 1% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) also means the signal is clipping. (Bad for speakers)

Looking at the specifications it looks like the real power per channel is 10-12w if you are lucky as power consumption total from the wall is listed as 60w. So 60รท5-effencincy losses = the real max amplification power.

Tldr this amp is garbage. Non UHD Bluray players are $50 bucks on sale. This amp is not worth $790

      • +1

The amp can actually be had for about $670 from Amazon US (it's multi-voltage).
I think this amp has good practicality, especially with Google Cast, but I agree with your arguments about power. Not sure that's reason to neg, though, as this is an ok deal compared to elsewhere (which doesn't mean it's worth the price).

  • Just to confirm, this is the 520, not the 520D with DAB+?

    • Yes this is the VSX-S520.

As the VSX-S520D is not an Australian model and is only available in Europe, so would have no local manufacturer warranty.
