This is an awesome deal! Was going to get the Pixel XL Telstra deal but will hold out for this! Thanks so much OP

    • +13

Not for iPhone 7.. The Pixel 2XL is much better value. iPhone 8 plus I'll be interested.

      • +4

@bchliu the Pixel 2XL is good value, but iPhone 7 retains it’s value better and is good for those in the Apple ecosystem.

        • +4

Bit of a misnomer about keeping value better - maybe in the same generation. These are more than a generation difference (Pixel 2XL directly competes with the X in pricing and market position), so the Pixel2XL is definitely worth more than the iPhone 7 even over it's lifetime.

        • @bchliu:
If u look up iPhone 7 plus… It does cost more than pixel 2xl

        • @syl: LOL.. show me a store that sells iPhone 7 plus to cost MORE than Pixel 2 XL. Current price 128GB models:
          Pixel 2XL: $1549 (JB HIFI)
          https://www.jbhifi.com.au/phones/Outright-Mobile-Handsets/go…
          iPhone 7+: $1199 (Apple)
          https://www.apple.com/au/shop/buy-iphone/iphone-7/5.5-inch-d…
          iphone 8+ 256GB: $1479 (Apple)
          https://www.apple.com/au/shop/buy-iphone/iphone-8/5.5-inch-d…
          iphone X 64GB: $1579 (Apple)
          https://www.apple.com/au/shop/buy-iphone/iphone-x#00,10

You will need to hit up to the Iphone X before it compares to the Pixel2 XL in price. It is even more expensive than the iphone 8+ at the highest capacity.

        • +1

          @syl:
          Compare 64GB:
          Pixel 2XL: $1399
          https://www.jbhifi.com.au/phones/Outright-Mobile-Handsets/go…
          iPhone 8 Plus: $1229
          https://www.jbhifi.com.au/phones/Outright-Mobile-Handsets/ap…

the Pixel 2XL is $1399 is more expensive than the iPhone 8 Plus 64GB and definitely more cheaper than any iphone 7 plus model including the 256GB version.

        • Pixel a current phone though while iphone 7 is already out of date. I'd expect the pixel to be worth more in 12 months time.

        • @bchliu:

          you are comparing RRP?
y would you do that if you're talking about retain value/resale value?

        • @syl: Because these are NEW Australian Stock. The current Second hand market today has the iPhone 7 plus 128GB at around $650-700 (used). The Pixel 2 XL 64GB is $1000 (used). That's giving you the advantage of 128GB too instead of comparing the 32GB version which is around $500 used. The original Pixel XL 128GB is $650 used which is more comparable to the iPhone 7 Plus. NOT Pixel 2 XL.
          You lose either way.

        • -1

          @bchliu:
Brand new 2xl 64gb is only 900ish on gumtree

          But anyway whatever

  • "Pixel 2 64GB, Pixel 2 64GB", should that be

    "Pixel 2 64GB, Pixel 2 XL 64GB"?

Edit: Thanks for fixing it. Btw, I'm tying this on a new pixel 2 from the last deal

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/363865

  • Does it include international calls? Any link for detailed plan inclusion?

    • International calls are not included, but can be added for an extra $10/mth and that will give you calls to 15 countries. No link for detailed plan inclusions as this will start tomorrow

  • Just chatted with a Telstra rep, he confirmed the sale but couldn’t tell me anything except find out more in store. Are they all really the same flat price of 59/month?

    • +7

      Yes $59 Flat, great deal!

      • +3

Very responsive OP. You will do well on OzBargain if you keep this up! Welcome to the forum

      • Seriously great deal, I hope I don’t have to fight too many other ozbargainers to get there!

    • I got the Pixel 2XL when the original deal came out last week. Yeah the price is $59 only and you get the new phone feeling from Telstra too but, you cannot opt out of the plan or you will have to pay the price of the phone too.

      • Yeah I’m feeling like the Pixel would be the smart choice to get for immediate resale but this is for my old man who wants the iPhone.

  • +8

Put me down for one of them Telstra Signature 2s, seems to be much nicer than the Pixel 2 Xl

  • Thanks OP awesome deal - I am happy that I held off on the Pixel 2 XL. I actually went into the Telstra store today and the girl didn't know about any Pixel 2 XL family and friends deal and there was no way I could show her the deal. How would I show this deal to the Telstra reps in the Telstra store tomorrow?

    • +3

Just mention the family and friends offer for the iPhone 7 or Pixel 2. As long as you are porting your number to Telstra it will be fine :)

      • Thanks Unknown, again awesome deal!

  • Gah. I really need to get off Telstra PAYG so when an offer like this comes up I am eligible to port in

    • +1

Go buy a $2 sim, port out and back in. Barely takes any time at all.

  • So can you buy a prepaid card to quality for port in?

    • If you purchase a Pre-paid card from another carrier and port that across, then yes you will qualify. But that means you would have to get a new number.

      • +1

So I can port out of PAYG to another provider and then port in to this and should be ok assuming I can do it quickly enough to still get the phone I want in stock?

        • That would not work as the Telstra system still displays your number, I think Telstra would be cracking down on that lol

        • @unknown101: wonder how long you have to be a customer of a different telco for it to work…if the offer goes till 30 March

        • @Purley23:

Guy in JB told me it's around 3 wks

  • +2

Dam no love for telstra customers?

    • There never is.

    • 5GB bonus data for your account if you have more than 1 service

      • +2

yeah but for those with only one account there is nothing at all right?

        • I got a bonus 5GB for asking on the Pixel 2 XL deal, but apparently they don't offer it - you've got to ask nicely. I did have a Prepaid data USB modem - this was on my consumer account though, so don't think that played a part.
Also, if you have an ABN - sign up for a business account and the 5GB is an offered bonus.

    • Just ask them for the same deal. I regularly argue with Telstra that existing customers should get better deals than others. I have a $30 PM credit on my mobile account to match a port in promo.

  • +1

Surprised the S8 isn't included given the S9 is almost out.

    • The S8 was offered on this deal in November - December last year

  • On my p2xl just signed this afternoon from jbhifi. "Blue tint" equiped, but trying to get use to it.

    • I've had mine a bit over a week and to be honest it really bugged me for the 1st few days - these last few days I can't say i've even noticed…

      • ya, will get use to it. transfering data.

        • This. I was worried when I read about it and startes using it. 1 week later… What blue tint?

        • @HappyPooPants: What blue tint? I've been using it for a week and no idea what blue tint you guys are talking about :-P

  • This or the JB HIFI deal ?

    • +1

Can confirm, this is available at JB HIFI (Source: work @ a JB store)

      • Do you get anything extra at JB? Would we get a phone case if we ask for it? :D

      • Would I be right in saying you can't get the iPhone 7+ 128GB from JB, seeing as it's not listed on the website?

        • +1

It's all completely dependent on stock availability in store but if it is in stock, you can get it.

  • Sorry, I don't understand what port in means.

I'm currently just prepaying my own phone right now with Telstra, will I not qualify for this deal if I go instore tomorrow?

    Thanks

    • +1

Port in means transferring your service from another provide to Telstra.
In your case, it would not be considered as a port in as such.

Perhaps as others suggested, 'port out' to another carrier on prepaid, for instance, Optus.
Then you can port back into Telstra postpaid.

  • +1

The (profanity) Telstra… just give us the 8

  • +1

Just to check, same deal as before on the pixel 2 /xl, just adding the iPhones as options as well?

  • How is Telstra on international roaming especially at places like Singapore and Indonesia? Anyone has experience? Compared to other carriers are they more expensive?

    • Telstra uses Starhub in Singapore but just about every provider will have great reception over there because it's so densely populated.

      • Yep, was in Singapore last month and the Telstra roaming reception was solid. Full 4G showing from the moment I turned off flight mode.

        • I second that, currently in NZ, good Roaming coverage

      • Thanks. How bout price wise? Any additional charges..Sorry I'm not familiar with post paid. Always used price paid plans.

  • Can someone please explain the eligibility for the 5GB bonus data?

    • I’m wondering too. I wonder if it means I can activate a cheapie sim and register it online to be eligible for the extra 5GB?

      • +3

The extra service has to be on the same account, on the same bill and be a post paid service. Pre paid will not be eligible as an extra service. Hope this helps

  • I think I need to leave Telstra prepaid so I can qualify for one of these port in offers one of these days.

  • +1

good deal for the iPhone 7 Plus 128gb? Or any better deals running or coming up?

  • +1

24 months is too long, $59 is too much, 15gb is too little. The price of mobile plans is going to drop and the gigs are going to go up significantly later this year, Telstra is trying to lock people down.

    • what makes you say that mobile plans are going to drop?

    • +1

For the Pixel 2 XL, the plan is essentially free in this instance considering the RRP, you're saying they're going to pay you to have a phone then? Good luck.

    • +2

Yeah. I'm be more tempted to go for the JB Hi-fi byo 12 month deal and wait for a good price on one of these phones. 2 years is an eternity in phone plan years.

    • +2

      ahhh you got us!

    • +1

This guy is absolutely right. Dont know about the downvote though.

  • Early exit fee is 708…and it says no handset fee.
Does it mean i can sign up and get the phone and leave right away and only pay 708?

    • it means pay for the rest of the phone and the exit fee for breaking contract early.

      • So RRP + early exit? eww

        • +1

Yeah it's under "including anything Telstra was going to cover" - the Pixel 2 XL for instance is $101 a month for 2GB data or $59 a month for 15(+5)GB data.
If you cancel, you pay the phone's monthly costs.

So yeah, cheaper to simply not use the plan than to cancel it. Logic.

  • No Google Home Mini included like other deal?

    • +2

Maybe if Apple's nice (that'd be the day) they'll chuck in a homepod ;)

  • Wow good deal

  • Awesome deal Unknown - just signed up with Telstra Chat… two thumbs up

Unfortunately, I couldn't get the 5gb bonus added to the service because the home internet or phone is not under my name :(

  • Good deal for iPhone 7 plus 128G

  • +1

Thanks I managed to stack this with the previous $200 JB Gift card deal, nothing special to it all just takes a little persistence!

    • Instore or on chat?

      • Both? Sister got it done in store when I got declined, but I managed to get it done through chat after a few tries…

    • how?

    • I too, would like to know :)

  • +1

    iPhone 6 32GB, iPhone 7 128GB, iPhone 7 Plus 32GB, iPhone 7 Plus 128GB, Pixel 2 64GB, Pixel 2 XL 64GB, Telstra Signature 2

Lol so you can get an iPhone 6, or a 7 Plus 32GB for the same price as the iPhone 7 128GB or 7 Plus 128GB.
Great for those people tied in the apple ecosystem I guess. Better value for Pixel 2 XL though.

  • -1

Are you a rep OP? Seems you know about Telstra ins and out

  • you guys should read the previous friends and family telstra deal, lots of info there about this deal!

  • Been into my local Telstra store this morning, dude showed me a piece of paper that shows the deal except it does not list the iPhone 7 or 7 Plus, only the 6, Pixel, and Pixel 2 the deal is for $59 and has also been running for ~1 week he said….

    • Deal says it starts tomorrow so unless they can't officially sell or disclose until tomorrow. Fingers crossed as I am planning on porting my partners phone across to Telstra.

      • Tomorrow … is today! Deal was posted 9pm on the 8th (yesterday)

        • Haha didn't see the date the deal was posted… :)

      • Tomorrow, deal was posted yesterday = Deal should be active now.

        • Haha yep wasn't looking at the time the deal was posting. Only saw the deal this morning so thought it was tomorrow. :D

    • Thanks for the update. Was about to send my niece to pick up the 7+ 128GB … would have been a waste of her time.

      • Hopefully someone will confirm they were able to get the 7+ deal!

    • +1

      Talking to Telstra chat now:

      1. "Yes we do have that offer: iPhone 7 Plus 32GB Jet Black on the $59 deal with 15GB data allowance and UNLIMITED national talk & text this is for 24 months contract"

      2. "Yes, however it is iPhone 7 only not the PLUS 128GB Black color" <- Context, the 128GB is only available in the non-plus iPhone 7 variant

So you can buy online now iPhone 7 Plus 32gb Jet Black or iPhone 7 128gb Black (There is only a single color available for each model)

(I expect stores will also be able to offer the deal if they have stock of those models/colors, it might take a bit of time for them to get the deal/confirm from head office)

I've just purchased an iPhone 7 Plus 32GB Jet Black via Telstra Chat now

      • +2

I'm on Telstra chat now and they are signing me up to the deal with the iPhone 7 Plus 128GB in Black.
They said it's only available while stocks last and they have 30 left.

So those who want it best to contact them ASAP.
