Atomic - I don't think this works in Aus - Radio signal reception (EU, USA, Japan, China)
Whether in Europe, North America and Japan or in the outer reaches of Canada, Central America and China - once the watch has been set to the local time, it receives the relevant signal and shows the correct time wherever you are. In many countries, it also sets itself automatically to summer and winter time.

Atomic - I don't think this works in Aus - A built-in radio signal receiver ensures that the exact time is displayed across Europe, the US, Japan, and China.

I've read that a handful of people in Australia have successfully received a signal, but so many variables like location, altitude, atmospheric conditions etc. I live near the ocean on the GC, have tried many times to get my Casio Pathfinder to pick up a signal, but no luck.

Fly overseas for a holiday so you can set your watch :)

Actually, just discovered how to get this to work. Download JJY apk for Android, it is on Google Play via web but shows incompatible (dunno about iPhone, there is an app called Clock Wave I saw somewhere).

Run app, turn it up fairly loud, will make some high pitch time code sounds, temporarily set watch to Tokyo time zone, go to R/C screen and hold bottom right button (Altitude on mine) until R/C flashes, set watch close to phone speaker. After a few moments you should see reception indicator bars show up, and after a minute or two, will sync and show "Get" to indicate it has received exact/current time. If it doesn't work it will show "Err", try again with different volume or watch orientation near speaker. Adjust back to correct time zone after you're done, and you may have to adjust hours as well.

      • I'll just stick with time.is

      • (genuine question)… is that all Atomic does? Set the correct time? If so, wouldn't it just be quicker and easier to set it manually via the watch?

        • Well yes, but finding an accurate clock and waiting for it to reach the next minute exactly while setting 00 on the watch. Or perhaps hanging around listening to ABC radio on the hour, as their news music always starts exactly on the knocker. :)

If you visit http://jjy.831337.xyz/ you don't have to download anything; it plays the sounds in the browser.

        • Yeah did initially try that site but watch just wouldn't set off laptop speakers.

        • I tried to get this to work with my riseman, no luck. I set my watch to TYO and got it receiving with an L3 signal, but still didn't stick. Any tips?

        • @jimwyze:

It took my watch almost 10 minutes to sync. The Casio manual even says it may take between 2-7 minutes even with an L3 signal.

Does it have a notification LED?

    • +1

No but it has a battery level indicator, so you know if it needs some sunlight.

Not the prettiest watch in the world but hey, for all of us that scuba dive regularly and find ourselves dropping our watches off Mt Everest every other week, then at least we have piece of mind.

    • +2

Is it common for scuba divers to drop their watch off of Mt Everest?

      • This watch does not feature a compass.

    Re: Multiband 6 atomic reception.

I use Clockwave on the iPad (or JJY app linked above) Set to timezone to TYO, press D button to GET, while the app is running.

If you can't get signal, then use corded earphones to create a weak antenna. The real signal is inaudible, volume won't matter. I made a loop antenna for the purpose and all my watches got L3 all the way and it's completely silent. Syncs very quickly too.

    • Thank you - added to the description.

  • Atomic - I don't think this works in Aus

As a nerd you should know.

The two Japanese signals can be received in Australia. However this feature is only useful in QLD when you set the watch to Tokyo and permanent DST.

(There is an hour difference between Japan and QLD, QLD does not use DST, but the other Australian states do).

I use a 5yo Casio solar waveceptor WVA470DJ-1ACF & it receives the signal here on QLD on most nights.

I would absolutely recommend solar atomic Casios (even GShocks!).
